  • The lower voltage distribution box of service wire has been usually employed to supply an electric power to the consumers through low voltage overhead line. Now-a-days, electric shock accident at the distribution box of service wire installed in the seashore areas has been often occurred. The reason is mainly due to the electric leakage in the distribution box of service wire. This paper described insulation breakdown mechanism of distribution box of service wire, analysis of electric shock path and safety countermeasure of distribution box of service wire.

  • A new bridge scour countermeasure using geobags and recycled aggregates which is more stable and economical than existing methods is proposed, and its stability was verified through material tests. PP short staple nonwoven geotextile and PET long staple nonwoven geotextile produced in Korea were selected, and a series of strength tests and a test of hydraulic characteristics were conducted to determine a suitable geotextile for geobags. A series of leaching test was also conducted to assess the potential environmental risk of recycled concrete produced in Korea when it is utilized as a material for protecting bridge piers against scour.

  • The purpose of this research is to propose an effective traffic safety countermeasure to reduce both violations of road traffic acts and accident rates related to the driver's characteristics by measuring them using Q analysis method, a microscopic statistics analysis method. As a result, violators of the road traffic act could be divided into five driving characteristics and causers of traffic accident could be classified into six driving characteristics. By understanding these characteristics, We could establish a proper traffic safety countermeasure for each driving characteristic. The accomplishments of this research are as follows: The first, We could classify the decisive driving characteristics, which cause road traffic acts and traffic accidents, into internal and external causes. The relationship between each driver's characteristic and the occurrence of the road traffic act and traffic accident could be recognized more clearly. We could find the dangerous driver samples who have Accidents proneness. The second, As a result of analyzing the characteristics of these factors, We could sort out and suggest countermeasure for reducing violation of road traffic acts and traffic accidents as a priority countermeasure and complementary countermeasure. Finally, transportation companies most closely related to automobile accidents can judge new personnels on the basis of their driving characteristics before hiring, and also apply this principle to the traffic safety education vigorously.

  • A method for estimating the effectiveness of each protective action against a nuclear accident has been proposed using the fuzzy set theory. In most of the existing countermeasure models in actions under radiological emergencies, the large variety of possible features is simplified by a number of rough assumptions. During this simplification procedure, a lot of information is lost which results in much uncertainty concerning the output of the countermeasure model. Furthermore, different assumptions should be used for different sites to consider the site specific conditions. Tn this study, the diversity of each variable related to protective action has been modelled by the linguistic variable. The effectiveness of sheltering and evacuation has been estimated using the proposed method. The potential advantage of the proposed method is in reducing the loss of information by incorporating the opinions of experts and by introducing the linguistic variables which represent the site specific conditions.

  • This paper describes the power frequency voltage and its countermeasure when a 765 kV transmission line is directly connected to a 345 kV line and operated at 345 kV voltage. The summary of this result is as follows : The western route of 765 kV transmission line doesn't need any countermeasure to reduce the power frequency voltage at the receiving end. The eastern route of 765 kV transmission needs 100 Mvar(3 phase) capacity of shunt reactor at the receiving end to reduce the power frequency voltage. The use of shunt reactors in the 765 kV transmission lines has unexpected problems, one of which is induction of high voltages on a de-energized circuit of two parallel lines. This paper examined the problem of resonance on two parallel transmission circuits in one routes.

  • Of late, natural disasters are becoming more frequent and the damages caused by these are quite substantial. All these are mainly due to a climate change. Many scientists from various countries are therefore engaged in research on atmospheric sciences and seismology. Korea meteorological administration (KMA) has established an advanced research and development center "CATER" for atmospheric sciences and earthquake. CATER has been managing and promoting the five major fields of research such as strategic meteorology, applied meteorology, climate change/countermeasure, earthquake, and research planning for CATER. Compared to 2006, CATER in 2007 has increased the funding by 7% and 5% for the climate change/countermeasure and the earthquake research fields, respectively. Also, the distribution rate of funding in 2007 has increased in 12% for basic research, 6% for university research organization, and 13% for the local area. CATER is trying to construct basic system and infrastructure for atmospheric sciences and earthquake research based on information technology. KMA has also a middle-term vision plan "World Best 365" for atmospheric science and earthquake research. These will give us a chance to become advanced nation in field of atmospheric sciences and seismology.

  • As the waterpower generation plant, the subject of this Study, is a facility that produces plenty of electricity corresponds to $196{\sim}240GWh$ annually, and in its generation process it creates a loud noise when the turbine related to the hydraulic turbine dynamo revolves, and since such loud noise must be transmitted to the dynamo room and amplified, it is effecting a lot of influences to the adjacent office and space. In such viewpoint, this Research, based on the soundproof measure presented at the preceding research, has attempted to evaluate about the effect of noise-reduction countermeasure against the hydraulic turbine dynamo using Auralizational Technique through Psycho-Acoustics Experiment. It deems that such result could be applied hereafter as the useful material when setting up a soundproof countermeasure for the hydraulic turbine dynamo room in dam.

Sensitivity and vibration reduction of buffeting induced resonance of hangers

  • Buffeting induced resonance (BIR) of hangers on long-suspension bridges is briefly reviewed, including mechanism and experimental verification. Taken the Xihoumen suspension bridge as a numerical example, sensitivities of the BIR of hangers to wind properties are investigated, including types of wind spectrum, turbulence intensity, and spacial coherence of wind fluctuations. Numerical simulations indicate that the BIR of hangers occur to both cases of different wind spectra, showing that it is insensitive to types of wind spectrum. On the other hand, it is found that the turbulence intensity affects buffeting of main cables almost in a linear manner, and so it does to the BIR of the hangers; however, the resonance factors, namely the ratio of the response of the hanger to that of the main cable, are little affected by the turbulence intensity. The spacial coherence of the wind fluctuations, although plays an important role on the buffeting responses of the main structure, has no substantial effects on the BIR of the hangers. Finally, replacement of steel strand with CFRP material has been verified as a very effective countermeasure against the BIR of hangers.

  • When the structure such as roadway, railway are constructed on abandoned coal mine area, the countermeasure to prevent settlements is necessary. In this study, numerical analyses are performed to evaluate the effect of the various countermeasures. As a results, the method which is filling the coal mine is more effective than that of reinforcing the ground above the coal mine. The ground settlement decreases hyperbolically with increasing the filling ratio of the coal mine. Also, the relationship between the filling ratio and the settlement reduction ratio is discussed precisely.

  • In this work we propose a new method to countermeasure against the abatement attack to the security server that is induced by man-in-the-middle attack. To that purpose, we first investigate the state of the art in the current research about the abatement attack. After that, we propose a new countermeasure method that can cope with the unresolved problems in the current method, which can cover diverse types of network.
