  • This study set the pyroprocess facility at an engineering scale as a cost object, and presented the cost consumed during the unit processes of the pyroprocess. For the cost calculation, the activity based costing (ABC) method was used instead of the engineering cost estimation method, which calculates the cost based on the conceptual design of the pyroprocess facility. The calculation results demonstrate that the pyroprocess facility's unit process cost is $194/kgHM for pretreatment, $298/kgHM for electrochemical reduction, $226/kgHM for electrorefining, and $299/kgHM for electrowinning. An analysis demonstrated that the share of each unit process cost among the total pyroprocess cost is as follows: 19% for pretreatment, 29% for electrochemical reduction, 22% for electrorefining, and 30% for electrowinning. The total unit cost of the pyroprocess was calculated at $1,017/kgHM. In the end, electrochemical reduction and the electrowinning process took up most of the cost, and the individual costs for these two processes was found to be similar. This is because significant raw material cost is required for the electrochemical reduction process, which uses platinum as an anode electrode. In addition, significant raw material costs are required, such as for $Li_3PO_4$, which is used a lot during the salt purification process.

  • Objectives: A meta-analysis of the literatures was conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy by dietitians. Methods : The 30 studies were identified from a computerized search of published research on MEDLINE, Science-Direct and the PQD database until May, 2002 and a review of reference lists. The main search terms were“dietitian”,“dietary intervention”,“nutrition intervention”, “cost”,“cost-effectiveness”and“cost-benefit analysis”. The subgroup analysis was performed by publication year, study design, intervention provider, type of patient (in/out-patient) and type of cost (total cost/direct cost). Two reviewers independently selected trials for inclusion, assessed the quality and extracted the data. Results : The 30 studies were identified using the electric database search and bibliographies. The 17 trials were eligible for inclusion criteria, then the systematic review and a meta-analysis were conducted on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the quality assessment tool for observational studies. The quality score was 0.515 $\pm$ 0.121 (range : 0.279-0.711, median : 0.466). The meta-analysis of 17 studies based on the random effect model showed that medical nutrition therapy was highly effective in treating the diseases (effect size 0.3092 : 95% confidence interval 0.2282-0.3303). The vote-counting method, one of meta-analysis methods, was applied to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy conducted by dietitians. Two criteria (method 1, method 2) for voting were used. The calculated p-values for method 1 (more conservative method) and method 2 (less conservative method) were 0.1250 and 0.0106, respectively. Medical nutrition therapy by dietitians was significantly cost-effective in the method 2. Conclusion. This meta-analysis showed that the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy was statistically significant in treating disease (effect size 0.3092), and that the cost-effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy was statistically significant in the method 2 (less conservative method) of vote counting. • This study is about comparing coal thermal plant to LNG combined power plant in respect of environmental and economic cost analysis. In addition sensitive analysis of power cost and discount rate is conducted to compare the result of change in endogenous and exogenous variable. For environmental assessment, when they generate 10,669GWh yearly, coal thermal power plant emits sulfur oxides 959ton, nitrogen oxide 690ton, particulate matter 168ton and LNG combined power plant emits only nitrogen oxide 886ton respectively every year. Regarding economic cost analysis on both power plants during persisting period 30 years, coal thermal power plant is more cost effective 4,751 billion won than LNG combined taking in account the initial, operational, energy and environmental cost at 10,669GWh yearly in spite of only LNG combined power plant's energy cost higher than coal thermal. In case of sensitive analysis of power cost and discount rate, as 1% rise or drop in power cost, the total cost of coal thermal power plant increases or decreases 81 billion won and LNG combined 157 billion won up or down respectively. When discount rate 1% higher, the cost of coal thermal and LNG combined power plant decrease 498 billion won and 539 billion won for each. When discount rate 1% lower, the cost of both power plant increase 539 billion won and 837 billion won. With comparing each result of change in power cost and discount rate, as discount rate is weigher than power cost, which means most influential variable of power plan is discount rate one of exogenous variables not endogenous.

  • KHP project sets total ownership cost as the target cost by applying CAIV and administrates total ownership cost through compromise analysis, a periodical estimate and management of design alternatives for each development. Based on expected cost results, sensibility of total ownership cost is analyzed complying with the change of reliability, availability, maintainability and other related factors. By considering potential total ownership cost saving methods, first of all, this paper identifies total ownership cost changing effects for each related factor, secondly, suggests total ownership cost and maintenance and operating cost saving methods via finding components that affect total ownership cost and lastly, suggests total ownership cost saving directions that may be applied to other projects in the future.

  • The importance of the life cycle cost analysis for construction projects of bridge has been recognized over the last decades. Accordingly, theoretical models, guidelines, and supporting softwares have been developed for the life cycle cost analysis of bridges. However, it is difficult to predict life cycle cost considering uncertainties precisely. This paper presents methodology for optimal design of substructure for a steel box bridge. Total life cycle cost for the service life is calculated as sum of initial cost, damage cost considering uncertainty, maintenance cost, repair and rehabilitation cost. The optimization method is applied to design of a bridge substructure with minimal cost, in which the objective function is set to life cycle cost and constraints are formulated on the basis of Korean Bridge Design Specification. Initial cost is calculated based on standard costs of the Korea Construction Price Index and damage cost on the damage probabilities to consider the uncertainty of load and resistance. An advanced first-order second moment method is used as a practical tool for reliability analysis using damage probability. Maintenance cost and cycle is determined by a stochastic method and user cost includes traffic operation costs and time delay costs.

  • Environmental pressures from such sources an economic condition, the government and inter-institutional competition create managerial challenges. Economic pressures may be forcing dietetic dept, in hospital to utilize cost∙benefit analysis to assist them in their problem solving. Cost∙benefit analysis have been widely used in business, industry and many other fields with only limited application to foodservice. Due to the lack or this information the purposes of this study were to identify use of cost∙benefit analysis in hospital foodservice system to evaluate the economic efficiency of alternatives, and to make recommendation for operation system change. Using the cost∙benefit method, cash flows are separated into cost and benefits. For an alternative to be selected, indicators, such as NPV, benefit-cost ratio (B/C ratio) with 5% discount rate per annum. The sensitivity analysis was also conducted with difference rate 3%, 7% respectively and reduced employee payroll change. The result of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. The total cost of investment for operation system change was 390,570 thousand won and the total benefit through operation system change was 865,808 thousand won. 2. Net present value(NPV) for 5 years was 475,239 thousand won and benefit-cost ratio was 2.22. 3. In sensitivity analysis with different discount rate 3%, 7%, benefit-cost ratio was 2.25, 2.18 respectively, with total reduced employee payroll change, benefit-cost ratio was 2.86. In conclusion, total benefits were exceeded total costs. Therefore, the project of operation system change in hospital foodservice was found to be economically efficient.

  • This study presents the results of an economic analysis for a comparison of the single layer and double layer alternatives with respect to a HLW-repository. According to a cost analysis undertaken in the Korean case, the single layer option was the most economical alternative. The disposal unit cost was estimated to be 222 EUR/kgU. In order to estimate such a disposal cost, an estimation process was sought after the cost objects, cost drivers and economic indicators were taken into consideration. The disposal cost of spent fuel differs greatly from general product costs in the cost structure. Product costs consist of direct material costs and direct labor and manufacturing overhead costs, whereas the disposal cost is comprised of construction costs, operating costs and closure costs. In addition, the closure cost is required after a certain period of time elapses following the building of a repository.

  • Existing web-based cost databases have proved invaluable for construction cost estimating. These databases have been utilized to compute approximate cost estimates using assembly rates, unit rates, and etc. These web-based databases can be used independently with traditional cost estimation methods (manual methods) or used to support BIM-based cost estimating platforms. However, these databases are rigid, costly, and require a lot of manual inputs to reflect recent trends in prices or prices relative to a construction project's location. To address this gap, this study integrated deep learning techniques with web-based price analysis to develop a database that incorporates a project's location cost estimating standards and current cost trends in generating a cost estimate. The proposed method was tested in a case study project in Lagos, Nigeria. A cost estimate was successfully generated. Comparison of the experimental results with results using current industry standards showed that the proposed method achieved a 98.16% accuracy. The results showed that the proposed method was successful in generating approximate cost estimates irrespective of project's location.
