  • The effects of sealing solution for anodized Mg-Al alloys and their corrosion resistance property were investigated. focusing on the effects of anodizing potentials aluminum contents and sealing solutions. All of the anodized specimens showed better corrosion resistance than that of non-anodized specimens, regardless of applied potentials. It was found that the anodic film formed at 4 V had the best corrosion resistance. The sealing effects were improved by increasing the temperature of distilled water. the pH of solution and the relative intensity ratio of $Mg(OH)_2$.

  • In this study we compared corrosion resistance tests which were carried out according to the national technique standard and the UL standard to ensure the reliability of smoke detectors in foul weather. The sensitivity of smoke detectors became so blunt that the least operational smoke concentration was a maximum change of 13% in the national technique standard, while it was a maximum change of 145% in the UL standard. As a result of this study the test method of corrosion resistance was made an objective evaluation in the national technique standard. Therefore it could be said that a basis of developing the test method of corrosion resistance was prepared for our country.

  • For the purpose of improving the hot corrosion resistance of Ni-base superalloy, Inconel 600, aluminide and chromium-aluminide coatings by pack cementation process were studied. The morphology of these coatings is dependent on the type of process employed. And their overall composition depends on the composition of the base alloy and on the nature of the cement. Therefore the different aluminide and chromium-aluminide coatings obtained on a superalloy do not possess the same resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion. The mechanisms governing the formation of the coatings and the composition of the coating were varied by pack composition and temperature, and cyclic hot corrosion resistance of the auluminide coating formed by one-step process was inferior to that of the coating formed by two-step process. and Cr-Al composite coating showed good resistance for cyclic hot corrosion.

  • Al ion plating was carried to improve corrosion resistance of Nd-based permanent magnet made by prwder molding method. The effects of applied votage, pressyre and temperature were investigated to find the reation between coating parameters and their properties. Density of coating layer increased with voltage and thus corrosion resistance improved. However when voltage was applied more than 1000V, corrosion resistance whet down because of resputtering effect. Good corrosion resistance was acquired when gas pressure was $5.0\times10^-2$>torr, which is satisfied momentum energy of Ar, Al ions as well as quantity of plasma. The layer coated in low temperature range have better surface density and corrosion resistance than in high temperature. This result is seemed due to the characteristics of substrate itself. All coating layers were showed stong adhesion with substrate.

  • This study investigates the resistance of sustainable ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) on steel reinforcement corrosion. For enhancing the sustainability of UHPC, concrete mixes were prepared with ordinary Portland cement main binder, and mixes with moderate to high percentages of blast furnace cement (CEM III), fly ash (FA), and slag cement as partial replacements of the full quantity of the used cement. Linear polarization resistance technique was employed to estimate the electrochemical behavior of the concrete specimens. Results showed that the compressive strength and the resistance of steel to corrosion in marine environments can be enhanced by improving the sustainability of UHPC through incorporation of CEM III, FA, and slag cement. FA replacement of up to 50% with the addition of 15% SF content produced better compressive strength and steel corrosion resistance than slag cement whether with the use of ordinary Portland cement or blast furnace cement as the main binder.

  • Effects of copper hydroxide(II) on the curing and the corrosion resistance of electrocoating were investigated by MEK rubbing test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). Curing performance of electrocoating was lowered with increasing the content of copper hydroxide(II) as evidenced by the MEK rub performance which decreased with increasing the content of copper hydroxide(II). This indicates copper hydroxide(II) affected the blocked isocyanate reaction in the coatings, by the decomposition of copper hydroxide(II) to CuO and $H_2O$ during reaction of isocyanate with nuclephiles. Corrosion resistance of coatings also decreased with the content of copper hydroxide. This reflects the higher barrier property in coatings with higher curing performance.

  • With a specially designed electrochemical cell, the changes in impedance behavior for Inconel 600 and aluminide diffusion coatings under molten sulfate film with thermal cycles (from $800^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$) were monitored with electrochemical impedance measurements. It was found that corrosion resistance for both materials increased with lower temperatures. At the same time, the state of molten salt was also monitored successfully by measuring the changes in impedance at high frequency, which generally represents the resistance of molten salt itself. After two thermal cycles, both Inconel 600 and aluminide diffusion coatings showed excellent corrosion resistance. The results from SEM observation and EDS analysis correlated well with the results obtained by electrochemical impedance measurements. It is concluded that electrochemical impedance is very useful for monitoring the corrosion resistance of materials under molten salt film conditions even with thermal cycles.

  • Austenitic stainless steels with addition of various amounts of Mo and W were evaluated in terms of corrosion and contact resistance to determine optimum alloy composition of metallic bipolar plate for PEMFC. The corrosion property was evaluated by both acid fume exposure test at $130^{\circ}C$ and by electrochemical polarization tests in $H_3PO_4$ solution at $80^{\circ}C$. Austenitic stainless steel with proper amount of Mo and W demonstrated not only good corrosion resistance but also low contact resistance. Analyses on the passive film show that partial substitution of Mo by W enhances passive film stability and repassivation property. Test results suggest that austenitic stainless steel with 2 wt%Mo and 4 wt%W has optimum composition for metallic bipolar plate used in PEMFC.

  • Magnesium and its alloys are attracted towards all engineering applications like automotive, marine, aerospace etc. due to its inherent high strength to weight ratio. But, extensive use of Mg alloys is limited to the current scenario because of low wear and corrosion resistance behavior. However, equal channel angular press is one of the severe plastic deformation technique which has been effective method to improve the wear and corrosion resistance by achieving fine grain structure. In this study, the effect of grain refinement on wear and corrosion resistance of AZ80 Mg alloys were investigated. The wear behavior of the coarse and fine-grained Mg alloys was examined through $L_9$ orthogonal array experiments in order to comprehend the wear behavior under varies control parameters. It was shown that ECAPed alloy increased the wear and corrosion resistance of the Mg alloy through the formation of fine grain and uniform distribution of secondary ${\beta}-phase$. Also, the performance of AZ80 Mg alloy for these changeswas discussed through SEM morphology.
