Saline corrosion is one of the major degradation mechanisms for stainless steel type 304 (SS304) dry storage cask during the spent fuel interim storage period. Slow strain rate test (SSRT) and neutral salt spray test (NSS) were performed at $85^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ with 0.5 wt% sodium chloride mist sprayed on the cold-rolled SS304 specimens of different degrees of reduction in this study. The weight changes of the NSS specimens tested at $85^{\circ}C$ for 2000 hours differed greatly from those at $200^{\circ}C$. The weight loss of NSS specimens was not significant at $85^{\circ}C$ but the weight gain decreased gradually with increasing the cold-rolled reduction. The yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile stress (UTS) values obtained from the SSRT tests for lightly cold-rolled specimens in the salt spray environment at $85^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ are slightly lower than in air. But for those with 20% reductions, the specimen strengths were no longer changed by the saline corrosion. The preliminary results demonstrated that the quality and performance of cold-rolled SS304 is acceptable for fabrication of dry storage casks. However, more work on the corrosion behavior of cold-rolled stainless steel in the saline atmosphere is needed to better understand its long-term performance.

For well-constructed concrete, its service life is a long period and it has an enough durability performance. For cracked concrete, however, it is clear that cracks should be a preferential channel for the penetration of aggressive substance such as chloride ions accoding to author's previous researches. Even though crack width can be reduced due to the high reinforcement ratio, the question is to which extend these cracks may jeopardize the durability of cracked concrete. If the size of crack is small, surface treatment system can be considered as one of the best options to extend the service life of concrete structures exposed to marine environment simply in terms of cost effectiveness versus durability performance. Thus, it should be decided to undertake an experimental study to deal with the effect of different types of surface treatment system, which are expected to seal the concrete and the cracks to chloride-induced corrosion in particular. In this study, it is examined the effect of surfaced treated systems such as penetrant, coating, and their combination on chloride penetration through microcracks. Experimental results showed that penetrant can't cure cracks. However, coating and combined treatment can prohibit chloride penetration through cracks upto 0.06 mm, 0.08 mm, respectively.
Commonly used concrete in general, consists of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and water. Natural river sand is the most commonly used material as fine aggregate in concrete. One of the important requirements of concrete is that it should be durable under certain conditions of exposure. The durability of concrete is defined as its ability to resist weathering action, chemical attack or any other process of deterioration. Durable concrete will retain its original form, quality and serviceability when exposed to its environment. Deterioration can occur in various forms such as alkali aggregate expansion, freeze-thaw expansion, salt scaling by de-icing salts, shrinkage, attack on the reinforcement due to carbonation, sulphate attack on exposure to ground water, sea water attack and corrosion caused by salts. Addition of admixtures may control these effects. In this paper, an attempt has been made to replace part of fine aggregate by tailing material and part of cement by fly ash to improve the durability of concrete. The various durability tests performed were chemical attack tests such as sulphate attack, chloride attack and acid attack test and water absorption test. The concrete blend with 35% Tailing Material (TM) in place of river sand and 20% Fly Ash (FA) in place of OPC, has exhibited higher durability characteristics.
Bisphenol A is used in the manufacture of epoxy, polycarbonate, and corrosion-resistant unsaturated polyester-styrene resins required for food packaging materials in industrial processing. Some reports indicated the possibility of harmful effects on rats. In this study was used a method for the determination of bisphenol A in blood according to the OSHA High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) guideline. The method involved blood extraction using methylene chloride. And it was evaluated developmental and teratogenic effects in pregnant rats and second generation. The results obtained were as follows. There was a significant increase in the body weights and treated groups F1 female in liver, spleen, kidney, but according to dose-response. F1 female rat's relative body weight and absolute body weight are not different. There was a significant increase liver, spleen, kidney organ weight and reproductive organ weight epididymis, prostate gland in F1 male rats. There was a proestrous in pregnant rat, group 200 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg, 2000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg, 20,000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg. The effect on rat treated with bisphenol A decrease organ weight and reproductive organ weight. Identification and quantitation were performed with using HPLC C18 column and using at retention time 5.5 min. The results of the detection of bisphenol A were at 20,000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg in average 1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml, 200 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg average in 0.9 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml blood samples. From those results, it could be concluded that the effects of pregnant rat and second generation(F1) by bisphenol A treatment during lactational period were estrogenic and bisphenol A was remained in serum at low level.

The last stage blades of a low pressure (LP) turbine get frequently fractured because of stress corrosion cracking. This is because they operate in a severe corrosive environment that is caused by the impurities dissolved in condensed steam and high stress due to high speed rotation. To improve the reliability of the blades under severe conditions, 12% Cr martensitic stainless steel, having excellent corrosion resistance and higher strength, is widely used as the blade material. This paper shows the result of root cause analysis on a blade which got fractured suddenly during normal operation. Testing of mechanical properties and microstructure examination were performed on the fractured blade and on a blade in sound condition. The results of testing of mechanical properties of the fractured blade showed that the hardness were higher but impact energy were lower, and were not meeting the criteria as per the material certificate specification. This result showed that the fractured blade became embrittled. The branch-type crack was found to have propagated through the grain boundary and components of chloride and sulfur were detected on the fractured surface. Based on these results, the root cause of fracture was confirmed to be stress corrosion cracking.

High water vapour content in air can cause a number of problems as for human or surrounding materials. For human a high water vapour can create physiological stress, discomfort, and also can encourage ill health. While, the cause for the environment is can accelerate the corrosion of metals, accelerate the growth of spores and mould, can reduce the electrical resistance of insulators and etc. Desiccant systems have been proposed as energy saving alternatives to vapor compression air conditioning for handling especially the latent load and also sensible load. Use of liquid desiccants offers several design and performance advantages over solid desiccants, especially when solar energy is used for regeneration. The liquid desiccants contact the gas inside the packed tower of liquid desiccant solar cooling system and the heat transfer and mass transfer will occur. This thesis is trying to study the characteristics inside the packed tower of dehumidifier systems. This characteristics consist of mass transfer rate, heat transfers rate, human comfort and energy that consume by the system. Those characteristics were affected by air flow rates, air temperature and humidity, and desiccant temperature and all that variation will influence the performance of the systems. The results of this thesis later on can be used to determine the best performance of the systems.

The pipe material is selected according to the physical and chemical properties of the fluid flowing within it. Because the fluid used in fire extinguish systems is water, the various foreign substances dissolved in it cause scale to form on the pipe wall and accelerate the corrosion and aging of the pipe itself. This results in an increase in the friction loss and eventually degrades the efficiency of the pump. The use of CPVC (Chlorinated Poly-Vinyl Chloride) pipes was confirmed to reduce the friction loss compared to conventional steel pipes in the design and construction stages. The friction loss was found to be 76.64MPa with a C-value of 120 for the steel pipe and 50.72 MPa with a C-value of 150 for the CPVC pipe in an actual apartment construction environment. It was confirmed that the friction loss was improved by about 34% when using the CPVC pipe. When the steel and CPVC pipes were employed in the construction, the construction costs were 1,585,158 and 931,842 won, respectively. Therefore, it was shown that the construction cost was reduced by about 41%. We investigated the safety of the fire extinguishing system and the improvement in the economic performance due to the reduction in the total installed capacity by studying practical applications in the field.
In this paper an experimental study of the influence of hot springs curing upon concrete properties was carried out. The primary variables of the investigation include water-to-binder ratio (W/B), pozzolanic material content and curing condition. Three types of hot springs, in the range $40-90^{\circ}C$, derived from different regions in Taiwan were adopted for laboratory testing of concrete curing. In addition, to compare with the laboratory results, compressive strength and durability of practical concrete were conducted in a tunnel construction site. The experimental results indicate that when concrete comprising pozzolanic materials was cured by a hot spring with high temperature, its compressive strength increased rapidly in the early ages due to high temperature and chloride ions. In the later ages, the trend of strength development decreased obviously and the strength was even lower than that of the standard cured one. The results of durability test show that concrete containing 30-40% Portland cement replacement by pozzolanic materials and with W/B lower than 0.5 was cured in a hot spring environment, then it had sufficient durability to prevent steel corrosion. Similar to the laboratory results, the cast-inplace concrete in a hot spring had a compressive strength growing rapidly at the earlier age and slowly at the later age. The results of electric resistance and permeability tests also show that concrete in a hot spring had higher durability than those cured in air. In addition, there was no neutralization reaction being observed after the 360-day neutralization test. This study demonstrates that the concrete with enough compressive strength and durability is suitable for the cast-in-place structure being used in hot spring areas.
Zinc is emerging as a environment-friendly plating material to replace cadmium, which is harmful to the human body, to prevent hydrogen gas penetration or release from metal materials. Electroplating of Zn and Zn alloys, which is usually performed in an aqueous acidic atmosphere, has disadvantages such as low coulombic efficiency, corrosion, and hydrogen release, resulting in industrial use difficult. In this study, a deep-eutectic solvent was synthesized using choline chloride and ethylene glycol. Using this as a solvent, an electrolyte for Zn plating was prepared, and then zinc was plated on the STS 304 substrate. The surface microstructure and roughness were observed using SEM and AFM. The crystal structure of the electro-plated film was analyzed using XRD. Finally, the preventing effects of hydrogen release through Zn-based deep-eutectic plating on the STS 304 substrate were compared with the uncoated substrate.

Smaller size and higher integration of electronic components make smaller gap between metal conducting layers in electronic package. Under harsh environmental conditions (high temperature/humidity), electronic component respond to applied voltages by electrochemically ionization of metal and metal filament formation, which lead to short failure and this phenomenon is termed electrochemical migration(ECM). In this work, printed circuit board(PCB) is used for determination of ECM characteristics. Copper leads of PCB are soldered by eutectic solder alloys. Insulation breakdown time is measured at $85^{\circ}C,\;85{\%}RH$. CAF is the main mechanism of ECM at PCB. Pb is more susceptible to CAF rather than Sn, which corresponds well to the corrosion resistance of solder materials in aqueous environment. Polarization tests in chloride or chloride-free solutions fur pure metal and eutectic solder alloys are performed to understand ECM characteristics. Lifetime results show well defined log-normal distribution which resulted in biased voltage factor(n=2) by voltage scaling. Details on migration mechanism and lifetime statistics will be presented and discussed.
