Corrosion of reinforced steel inside concrete is an important cause of performance degradation of reinforced concrete structures and has a profound influence on the durability of structures. In this study, three groups of different reinforced concrete structures exposed to the natural environment were subjected to chloride ion accelerated corrosion tests for up to 180 days. The corrosion velocity and ambient temperature of the samples were measured and recorded every day. Based on Faraday's law, the corrosion speed of steel bars could be measured, and the ambient temperature and humidity around the structure in corresponding time were compared. Through the measurement of up to 180 days, the influence of external ambient temperature and humidity on the corrosion speed of steel bars inside the concrete structure was found out. The results show that there is a good direct proportional relationship between temperature and corrosion speed. When the ambient temperature increases by 15℃, the corrosion rate increases by about one time.

Recently, the corrosion of concrete structures has received great attention related with the deterioration of sea-side structures, such as new airport, bridges, and nuclear power plants. In this regards, many studies have been done on the chloride attack in concrete structures. However, those studies were confined mostly to the single deterioration due to chloride only, although actual environment is rather of combined type. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to explore the influences of carbonation and freezing-thawing action to chloride attack in concrete structures. The test results indicate that the chloride penetration is more pronounced than the case of single chloride attack when the carbonation process is combined with the chloride attack. It is supposed that the chloride ion concentration of carbonation region is higher than the sound region because of the separation of fixed salts. Though the use of fly ash pronounces the chloride ion concentration in surface, amounts of chloride ion penetration into deep region decreases with the use of fly ash. The small reduction of relative dynamic elastic modulus induced from freezing-thawing increases the chloride ion penetration depths much. The present study allows more realistic assessment of durability for such concrete structures which are subjected to combined attacks of both chlorides and carbonation or freezing-thawing but the future studies for combined environment will assure the precise assessment.

When the concrete structures are in contact with seawater, concentration of chloride for estimating chloride diffusion coefficient can be defined as the chloride concentration of sea water. However, in case the concrete structures, constructed in the seashore, aren't directly in contact with seawater, it is difficult to establish the interface concentration of chloride. In addition, marine concrete structures are greatly affected by salt attack such as rebar corrosion, among the cause of salt attack, airborne sea salt is primary factor. Therefore, in this study, salt attack environment by airborne sea salt was investigated in terms of the distance from seashore at 33 spots, 6 areas in East, West, South coast for 1 year. Results indicated that airborne sea salt is decreased by $y=a{\cdot}x^{-b}$ equation to the distance from seashore.

In this study, for the establishment of the performance evaluation methods of repair material and method for reinforced concrete structure and the quality control standards of durability recovery method, the quantitative exposure data by exposure experiment under the coastal and normal atmosphere environment is accumulated and analyzed. Investigating and evaluating the result of exposure experiment during 30 months of exposure age under the coastal and normal atmosphere environment, carbonation depth and chlorideion penetration depth very little penetrated than cover depth. It seems reasonable to conclude that main cause of corrosion of reinforcing bar are inner chloride-ion and macro cell from the result of corrosion area and corrosion velocity. Accordingly, it is considered that fundamental data on the performance evaluation and quality control standards of repair material and method could be presented through continuous exposure test in the future.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate freezing-thawing and surface scaling resistance in order to examine the frost durability of concrete in a chloride-inherent environment. The mixing design for this study is as follows: 3 water binder ratios of 0.37, 0.42, and 0.47; 2-ingredient type concrete (50% OPC concrete and 50% ground granulated blast-furnace slag), and 3-ingredient type concrete (50% OPC concrete, 15% fly ash, and 35% ground granulated blast-furnace slag). As found in this study, the decrease of durability was much more noticeable in combined deterioration through both salt damage and frost damage than in a single deterioration through either ofthese; when using blast-furnace slag in freezing-thawing seawater, the frost durability and surface deterioration resistance was evaluated as higher than when using OPC concrete. BF 50% concrete, especially, rather than BFS35%+FA15%, had a notable effect on resistance to chloride penetration and freezing/expansion. It has been confirmed that surface deterioration can be evaluated through a quantitative analysis of scaling, calculated from concrete's underwater weight and surface-dry weight as affected by the freezing-thawing of seawater.

Epoxy coated reinforcing steels (ECRs) were acquired from ten sources and coatings from each source were initially characterized in terms of defects, thickness, solvent extraction weight loss and hardness. Testing involved exposure in three aqueous solutions at elevated temperature (8$0^{\circ}C$) and in chloride-contaminated concrete slabs under outdoor exposure, It was found that the density and size of coating defects was the promary factor affecting ECR performance. The equivalent circuit analysis using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data indicated that the impedance response for well-performing ECR specimens showed no signs of active degradation at the interface although diffusional processes similar to those noted for poorly performing bars occurred here. Experimental results also indicated a relationship between corrosion behavior and bar source. Weight loss upon solvent extraction correlated with impedance reduction from hot water exposure. Coating defects during most of the tests, especially in high pH solutions containing chloride ions. ECRs with excessive coating defects, either initially present or ones which developed in service, performed poorly in every test category regardless of source. Forms of coating failure were extensive rusting at defects, blistering, wet adhesion loss, cathodic delamination, underfilm corrosion and coating cracks. These occurred sequentially or concurrently, depending on the condition of the ECR and nature of the environment
Steel corrosion in embedded steel causes a significant durability problems and this usually propagates to structural degradation. Large-scaled concrete structures, PSC (Pre-stressed Concrete) or RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures, are usually constructed with mass concrete and require quite a long construction period. When they are located near to sea shore, chloride ion penetrates into concrete through direct or indirect exposure to marine environment, and this leads durability problems. Even if the structures are sheltered from chloride ingress outside after construction, the chloride contents which have been penetrated into concrete during the long construction period are differently evaluated from the initially mixed chloride content. In the study, chloride profiles in cores extracted from anchorage concrete block in two large-scaled suspension bridge (K and P structure) are evaluated considering the exposure periods and conditions. Total 21 cores in tendon room and chamber room were obtained, and the acid-soluble chlorides and compressive strength were evaluated for the structures containing construction period around 3 years. The test results like diffusion coefficient and surface chloride content from the construction joint and cracked area were also discussed with the considerations for maintenance.

In the case of construction under the marine environment the durability of concrete structures is everely deteriorated by the penetration of salts which results in the corrosion of reinforcing steel. To verify the effect of corrosion protection of reinforcing steel by isolating the penetration of chlorideion this study investigated the bond strength between painting material and concrete, the degree of the penetration-diffusion of chloride ion and the accelerated corrosion test using different potential. Results show that the painted concrete has little the penetration-diffusion of cholride and the reinforcing steel in painted concrete is little corroding.

Salt attack is one of the serious deterioration factor with respect to the durability of concrete structure. Especially, in case of exposed rebar concrete structure in marine environment, corrosion of rebar is accelerated by penetration of $Cl^-$ from exterior. Through this path, volume of corroded rebar is increased about two and half times due to increased inner pressure originated from rust. As a consequence, the overall deterioration of concrete structure, namely, cracks, reduction of adhesive strength and pop-out is followed. In this paper, the effect of structure treatment of concrete on chloride resistance has been investigated. At the same time, the relationship among several characteristics, such as resistance to chloride, water absorption coefficient and surface hardness of concrete has been investigated. It is believed that surface performance improvement by the application of penetrative hardening agent influences on positively water absorption coefficient, surface hardness of concrete and resistance to chloride ion penetration.
Zirconium based alloys have been extensively used as a cladding material for fuel rods in nuclear reactors, due to their low thermal neutron absorption cross-section, excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties at high temperatures. However, a cladding material for fuel rods in nuclear reactors was contact water during long time at high-temperature, so it is necessary to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of the fuel cladding, At ambient environment, there are few data or paper on the characteristic of corrosion in chloride solution and acidic solution. The specimens used in this work are pure Zr and Zircaloy-4. Zircaloy-4 is a specific zirconium-based alloy containing, on a weight percent basis, 1.4% Sn, 0.2% Fe, 0.1% Cr. Pitting corrosion resistance of two alloys by ASTM G48 is higher than that of electrochemical method. Passive film formed on Zircaloy-4 is mainly composed of $ZrO_2$, metallic Sn, and iron species regardless of formation environments. Also, passive film formed on Zr alloys shows n-type semiconductic property on the base of Mott-Schottky plot.
