The weather resistance of five coatings systems based on alkyd, chlorinated rubber, epoxy, polyurethane and fluoropolymer were studied by natural exposure test and accelerated test. The coatings were exposed at Hanoi station with urban industry atmosphere and at Baichay station with marine atmosphere. The degradation of coatings was evaluated by gloss measurement and surface analysis by scanning electronic microscopy. The results obtained show that among coatings tested the gloss of polyurethane and fluoropolymer coatings remained highly and those of alkyd, chlorinated rubber and epoxy coatings were very low after two years of atmospheric exposure. Under accelerating conditions the gloss of fluoropolymer coatings remained highly after 80 cycles of testing. By comparison with accelerating test in UV-condensation chamber the conditions at atmospheric stations are more aggressive.

In general, carbonation and chlorine ions are the most harmful causes of deterioration of concrete structures. Recently, a method has been developed to control the corrosion of rebar in concrete containing chloride by impregnating a Surface coating material with a inhibitor. In this study, accelerated carbonation and differential thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTA) and CASS tests were carried out to evaluate the characteristics of Surface coatings containing Organic Corrosion inhibitors which are excellent in corrosion inhibition and fix degradation causes $CO_2$ and $Cl^-$. As a result of the experiment, TG-DTA analysis and accelerated carbonation showed that $CO_2$ was directly reacted with amine derivative in concrete by the incorporation of Organic Corrosion inhibitor. In other words, $CO_2$ was immobilized and carbonation inhibition effect was confirmed. In addition, in the CASS test, the specimen coated with the Surface coating material containing the Organic Corrosion inhibitor with $Cl^-$ fixing property showed no corrosion until the 28th day and had excellent performance in preventing corrosion of a rebar by the chloride ion.
Concrete is a attractive construction material, however durability problem occur due to steel corrosion, which leads propagation to structural safety problem. The recently developed FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) Hybrid Bar has an engineering merit of both structural steel and FRP. Accelerated corrosion test for RC (Reinforced Concrete) samples with normal steel and FRP Hybriud Bar are performed and their flexural capacity is evaluated. Furthermore UV(Ultrasonic Velocity) measurement is attempted for analysis of variation of UV due to corrosion condition. After corrosion test, there is no significant reduction in RC beam with FRP hybrid bar but 11.5% of reduction in the case of normal steel is evaluated with 3.3% of UV reduction. For commercial production of FRP hybrid bar, bond strength evaluation through long-term submerged corrosion is required.

For the steel structures those are used in harsh sea environments, corrosion fatigue is a challenging issue in connection with design life. In this research, in order to investigate the influence of cathodic overprotection on the corrosion fatigue crack propagation behavior, corrosion fatigue crack propagation test under the condition of -950mV vs SCE was conducted by using of high tensile TMCP steel plate and the relationships between da/dN-${\Delta}K$ were obtained. At this test, when ${\Delta}K$ is low, the crack propagation rates were accelerated compared to those of seawater condition, however, when ${\Delta}K$ is high, the crack propagation rates were lower than those of seawater condition. As the cause for the acceleration and deceleration of corrosion fatigue crack propagation rates under the condition of cathodic overprotection, the role of hydrogen and calcareous deposits are discussed.

In order to examine the effect of humidity on hydrogen embrittlement of STS 444 weld zone for boiler with dry and wet welding conditions, this paper was carried out the accelerated hydrogen osmosis test and the electrochemical Tafel polarization test. In 0.5M $H_2SO_4$ + 0.01M $As_20_3$ solution, this test is added to load of $1400kg/cm^2$ together with hydrogen osmosis by current of $50 {mA/cm^2}$ for 60 min.. The electrochemical Tafel polarization test was carried out in 0.5M $H_2SO_4$ + 0.01M $As_20_3$ solution. Therefore, the effect of humidity on hydrogen embrittlement of STS 444 was considered. The main results are as following: On the basis of hydrogen embrittlement mechanism, that is, integrated electrochemical polarization characteristics with the established mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement, the reduction rate of corrosion current density of weld zone in the wet weld condition is larger than in the dry condition. We can nondestructively predict the degree of hydrogen embrittlement of STS 444 weld zone for boiler through the reduction rate of electrochemical corrosion current density.
The specimens for the corrosion test were made by hot-pressing of SiC power with 2 wt% Nl2O3 and 10wt% Al2O3 additions at 2000℃ and 2050℃. The specimens were corroded in 37 mole% NaCl and 63 mole% Na2SO4 salt mixture at 1000℃ up to 60 min. SiO2 layer was formed on SiC and then this oxide layer was dissolved by Na2O ion in the salt mixture. The rate of corrosion of the specimen containing 10 wt% Al2O3 was slower than that of the specimen containing 2 wt% Al2O3. This is due to the presence of continuous grain boundary phase in the specimen containing 10 wt% Al2O3. The oxidation of SiC produced gas bubbles at the SiC-SiO2 interface. The rate of corrosion follows a linear rate law up to 50 min. and then was accelerated. This acceleration is due to the disruption oxide layer by the gas evolution at SiC-SiO2 interface. Pitting corrosion has found at open pores and grain boundaries.
Stone cultural properties(pagoda, Buddhist statue etc.) is moved in original place for many reasons and restored after taking to pieces for structural safety. With the movement and restoration after taking to pieces, the cast iron is used for the sake of a fixation and horizontality. The stone cultural properties are spoiled the beauty and accelerated the weathering because of the corrosion product of cast iron. So we need to substitute for the improved property in all aspects. We are executed the corrosion test and inquired the property of material on the usable material for the shim of stone cultural properties. That is the Cast iron, Stainless steel, Titanium and Fiber Reinforced Plastics. In the result of the physical property and strength, the Stainless steel and Titanium was superior to the Cast iron. And the Stainless steel and Titanium was slower than the Cast iron in the corrosion velocity for the acid, salt and rain. If the shim is substitute the Stainless steel or Titanium for the Cast iron, the stone cultural properties are able to reduce the pollution of stone cultural properties by corrosion product and should not happen in the matter of stone pagoda.
This paper is focused on fractal analysis of the surface cracking, a new tool for safety evaluation of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Comprehensive experimental investigations, including flexural tests, coupon tests on strength evaluation of corroded concrete and rusty rebar, and pullout tests to determine bond strength between concrete and rebar were carried out on nine Corroded Reinforced Concrete Beams (CRCB) exposed to an aggressive environment for more than 10 years. In combination with test results from a previous study on CRCBs fabricated in the laboratory from accelerated methods, it is found that, for both types of beams, the surface cracking distributions are fractal in character at loading and failure stages. Fractal dimension is calculated for all specimens at different corrosion states based on fractal analysis method. Relationships between the fractal dimension and mechanical properties of corroded concrete, rebar corrosion ratio, and ductility of CRCBs are discussed in detail. It is concluded that the fractal dimension can act as a damage index and can be efficiently used to describe the corrosion state of CRCBs.

To examine the effect of acid fog on the corrosion fatigue behavior in structural steel, fatigue tests under acid fog atmosphere were carried out in comparison with distilled water. The corrosive c omponents contained in acid fog pile up the corrosion products on crack face and show a crack branching and crack tip blunting. Therefore, due to these workings crack growth rate was reduced by decreasing the effective stress range in crack tip rather than under distilled water. Also the effect of sulfuric acid, which is the main component of acid fog, and testing speed on fatigue crack growth were examined. It was found that corrosion behavior was remarkably dependent upon pH and Hz rather than components of acid fog. According as pH and testing speed decrease below a specific value, crack growth was accelerated in comparison with distilled water. This reveals that due to liquid having strong acidity and slow speed of test the crack face dissolution was promoted, so crack closure was disturbed in the process of stress descent.

In order to verify the effect of Surface Coating Anode and Solar Battery anode system, accelerated tests in the presence or absence of some chloride content and cracks were carried out. The potential-decay, protection potential and corrosion current density of reinforcing steel in concrete specimen were measured to evaluate the effectiveness of the system. From the test results, the application of the system led to the satisfaction on NACE's criterion in all mixtures of concrete. Additionally it was found that protection potential and corrosion current density were satisfied due to the application of Surface Coating Anode and Solar Battery anode system.
