The efficiency of three complex surfactants based on sunflower oil and nitrogen containing compounds as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in $CO_2$-saturated 1% NaCl solution, has been determined by weight loss and LPR corrosion rate measurements. These compounds inhibit corrosion even at very low concentrations. The inhibition process was attributed to the formation of an adsorbed film on the metal surface that protects the metal against corrosive media. The inhibition efficiency increases with increasing the concentration of the studied inhibitors. Maximum inhibition efficiency of the surfactants is observed at concentrations around its critical micellar concentration (CMC). Adsorption of complex surfactants on the mild steel surface is in agreement with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model, and the calculated Gibbs free energy values confirm the chemical nature of the adsorption. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence microscopy (EDRF) observations of the electrode surface confirmed the existence of such an adsorbed film.
Desalination is the main focus of the stabilization of iron artifacts. However, drawbacks such as re-corrosion are noted due to the uncertainty in the elimination of the corrosive factors and artifacts. Several studies have been carried out on the effects of corrosion inhibitors to overcome these shortcomings. In this study, the effects of type 3 water treatment on corrosion inhibitors were investigated. Surfaces of samples that contained film corrosion inhibitors on their surfaces were analyzed. The results revealed that the surface rust was removed from the sample of type 1 No. 2 that was mainly composed of phosphate. The average weight reduction rates of re-corrosion samples were 0.58, 0.03, and 0.07% for type 1 No. 2, type 2 No. 2, and type 3 No. 2 respectively. The changes in the $Cl^-$ ion, a corrosive agent were found to be 28.60, -4.08, and -1.94 ppm for type 1 No. 2, type 2 No. 2, and type 3 No. 2 respectively. The water-treated films were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was found that type 2 No. 2 had less Fe the basis metal, than that in type 3 No. 2 indicating much better film. Moreover, Si content was higher in type 2 No. 2, based on the silicate content, than in type 3 No. 2. They are speculated to be the reason or the formation of a better film. Type 1 No. 2, which is mainly composed of phosphate, would be inappropriate as a metal artifact conservation treatment. It was determined that type 2 No. 2 and type 3 No. 2 water treatments, which are mainly composed of silicate, provided excellent corrosion inhibiting effects. Corrosion inhibitors could be used as emergency treatment agents during the excavation of iron artifacts.
Five derivatives of phenylthiourea namely: 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-phenylthiourea (1), 1-(4-methylphenyl)-3- phenylthiourea (2), 1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-phenylthiourea (3), 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-phenylthiourea (4) and 1-phenylthiourea (5) have been evaluated as new inhibitors for the corrosion of carbon steel in 2 M HCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements showed that these derivatives are mixed-type inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with inhibitor concentration and decreases with rise in temperature. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption and activation were determined and discussed. Nyquist plots showed depressed semicircles with their centre below real axis. The adsorption process of studied derivatives on carbon steel surface obeys Temkin adsorption isotherm. The synergistic effect of these derivatives and some anions is discussed from the viewpoint of adsorption models. The electrochemical results are in good agreement with the calculated quantum chemical HOMO and LUMO energies of the tested molecules.

A synergistic effect was observed in the combination of nitrite and ethanolamines. Ethanolamine is one of the representative organic corrosion inhibitors and can be categorized as adsorption type. However, nitrosamines can form when amines mix with sodium nitrite. Since nitrosamine is a carcinogen, the co-addition of nitrite and ethanolamine will be not practical, and thus, a non-toxic combination of inhibitors shall be needed. In order to maximize the effect of monoethanolamine, we focused on the addition of molybdate. Molybdate has been used to alternate the addition of chromate, but it showed insufficient oxidizing power relative to corrosion inhibitors. This work evaluated the synergistic effect of the co-addition of molybdate and monoethanolamine, and its corrosion mechanism was elucidated. A high concentration of molybdate or monoethanolamine was needed to inhibit the corrosion of ductile cast iron in tap water, but in the case of the co-addition of molybdate and monoethanolamine, a synergistic effect was observed. This synergistic effect could be attributed to the molybdate that partly oxidizes the metallic surface and the monoethanolamine that is simultaneously adsorbed on the graphite surface. This adsorbed layer then acts as the barrier layer that mitigates galvanic corrosion between the graphite and the matrix.

Recently long-span bridges, such as Kwang-Ahn Grand bridge, Seo-Hae Grand Bridge, Young-Jong Grand Bridge, etc, have been designed and constructed near the shore. It needs to maintain the durability of marine concrete structures which are exposed to severe chloride environments. It is well known that corrosion of reinforcement steels in concrete structure is the most important cause for the durability of concrete structure which can be controlled by systematic preparatory corrosion protection works for economic and safe infrastructures. Various corrosion protection systems have been used for the corrosion protection of reinforcement steels from detrimental chemical components such as chloride, sulphate and etc. Since chloride can be penetrated into concrete in a variety way, an effective method has to be adopted by taking into full economical aspects and technical data of each protection system. The objective of this experimental study is to investigate the corrosion behavior of reinforcing steel in laboratory concrete specimens which are exposed to cyclic wet and dry saltwater, and then to develop pertinent corrosion protection system, such as corrosion inhibitors and cathodic protection for reinforced concrete bridges exposed to chloride environment. Resistance of various corrosion inhibitors and impressed current system have been experimentally evaluated under severe environmental conditions, and thus effective corrosion protection systems could have been Practically developed for future concrete construction.

The influence of Schiff bases on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M $H_2SO_4$ have been investigated by weight loss, gasometry, impedance and polarization techniques. The results obtained reveal that these compounds act as good inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency of Schiff bases increased with concentration and synergistically increased on addition of chromate, sulphate and halide ions. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements clearly reveal that the investigated inhibitors are of mixed type but they are more cathodic in nature. The adsorption of these compounds on mild steel surface for both the acids were found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The surface morphology was studied by SEM and UV reflectance spectra.

The current study evaluated the disinfection efficiency of free chlorine and chloramine for microorganisms on various pipe materials, such as copper, galvanized steel, carbon steel, and stainless steel. In addition, the effect of internal pipe corrosion and corrosion inhibitors on the bactericidal efficiency was evaluated using a simulated loop. For disinfection with a phosphate corrosion inhibitor, chloramination was found to be more effective than chlorination due to its persistence. Free chlorine disinfection was optimized with a high phosphoric acid concentration, while chloramine disinfection was optimized with a high phosphoric acid or low polyphosphate concentration. In simulated copper and galvanized steel loop tests, chloramination with phosphoric acid was demonstrated to be more effective.

In this study, the optimum amount of chloride ions is used to collaborate with hybrid corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel rebar treatment in simulated pore concrete (SCP) solution is discovered. The corrosion inhibition performance of hybrid inhibitors is carried on by open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PP). The highest corrosion inhibition resistance is found in case of LP-C2 after 240 h exposure. Surface studies including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to figure out the surface morphology of the steel rebar treated with hybrid inhibitors in order to collaborate well with electrochemical studies. Anodic type inhibition action was confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization study.

Cyclic Voltammetry and weight loss measurements were used to investigate corrosion prevention of tin in a 0.5M citric acid solution containing Anthocyanins extracted from grapes at various concentrations and temperatures. Results showed that the investigated chemicals, Anthocyanins extracted from grapes, performed well as tin corrosion inhibitors in 0.5M citric acid. Increasing the concentration of Anthocyanins increased their corrosion inhibition efficiencies. When the temperature dropped, their inhibition efficiencies, increased indicating that higher temperature tin dissolution predominated the adsorption of Anthocyanins at the surface of tin metal. When inhibitor concentrations were increased, their inhibition efficiencies were also increased. These results revealed that corrosion of tin metal was inhibited by a mixed type of adsorption on the metal surface. The adsorption isotherm of Langmuir governed the adsorption of Anthocyanins. Thermodynamic parameters such as the enthalpy of adsorption, the entropy of adsorption, and Gibbs free energy and kinetic parameters such as activation energy, enthalpy of activation, and entropy of activation were computed and discussed in this study.

Concrete is a type of porous materials and is physically and chemically damaged due to exposure to various environments from the placing to the service life. These reactions affect the corrosionof steel bars applied in concrete and that decreases the durability life and strength of such steel bars. Thus, it is very important to insert rust inhibitors into steel bars in the case of a deterioration element that exceeds the critical amount of corrosion in the location of steel bars. However, it is very difficult to guarantee corrosion resistance at the location of steel bars using conventional technology that applies corrosion inhibitors only on the surface of concrete. This study attempts to develop a method that penetrates corrosion inhibitors up to the location of steel bars and investigate the penetration depth of corrosion inhibitors by verifying moisture migration in concrete under an applied pressure.
