Synthesis and in vitro cytotoxicity of a homologous series of 5-halosubstituted $1,3-Bis(\omega-cyanoalkyl)$uracil analogues

  • A homologous series of twenty, hitherto unreported, analogues of 5-halosubstituted $1, 3-Bis(\omega-cyanoalkyl)uracil$acyclic nucleosides were synthesized by the series of alkylation reactions of 5-halouracils with the corresponding chloroacetonitrile, chloropropionitrile, chlorobutyronitrile and 5-chlorovaleronitrile $(Cl-(C_ 2)_n-CN: n=l, 2, 3, 4)\; in\; anhydrous\; DMSO\; (or DMF)/K_2CO_3(or NaH)\; under\; 75^{\circ}C$ temperature. Antitumor activities for the synthesized compounds were determined against three cell lines (FM-3A cell, P-388 cell and U-938 cell lines). The compounds that exhibited moderate activity to significant activity, included la-b, 2a-b, 3a-c, and 4a, whose compounds were active against P-388, FM-3A and U-937 cell lines with the compounds la, lb, and 2a, showing significant antitumor activity (inhibitory concentrations $(IC_{50})$ ranged from 2.2 to $7.0\mug/ml$). Their strucrure-activity relationship did not show any activity differences in their effective chain length (methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl) in 1, 3-bis(.omega.-cyanoalkyl) uracils.

Analytical solutions for buckling of simply supported rectangular plates due to non-linearly distributed in-plane bending stresses

  • Rigorous analytical solutions are obtained for the plane stress problem of a rectangular plate subjected to non-linearly distributed bending loads on two opposite edges. They are then used in a Galerkin type solution to obtain the corresponding convergent buckling loads. It is shown that the critical bending moment depends significantly on the actual edge load distribution and further the number of nodal lines of the buckled configuration can also be different from that corresponding to a linear antisymmetric distribution of the bending stresses. Results are tabulated for future use while judging approximate numerical solutions.

Application of Deep Learning to Solar Data: 2. Generation of Solar UV & EUV images from magnetograms

  • In this study, we apply conditional Generative Adversarial Network, which is one of the deep learning method, to the image-to-image translation from solar magentograms to solar UV and EUV images. For this, we train a model using pairs of SDO/AIA 9 wavelength UV and EUV images and their corresponding SDO/HMI line-of-sight magnetograms from 2011 to 2017 except August and September each year. We evaluate the model by comparing pairs of SDO/AIA images and corresponding generated ones in August and September. Our results from this study are as follows. First, we successfully generate SDO/AIA like solar UV and EUV images from SDO/HMI magnetograms. Second, our model has pixel-to-pixel correlation coefficients (CC) higher than 0.8 except 171. Third, our model slightly underestimates the pixel values in the view of Relative Error (RE), but the values are quite small. Fourth, considering CC and RE together, 1600 and 1700 photospheric UV line images, which have quite similar structures to the corresponding magnetogram, have the best results compared to other lines. This methodology can be applicable to many scientific fields that use several different filter images.

  • In this paper, we reported an outbreak of fire hazard of ballast for fluorescent lamp. The surface structure and composition of ballast coil analyzed by using metallurgical microscope, scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDX). The surface of molten mark appeared columnar structure and void. EDX analysis indicated that the molten mark spectra were composed not only of the corresponding original spectra but also of several new lines.

송전선의 정전용량과 인덕턴스의 통일적 해석법 (A unified analysis method for capacitance and inductance of power transmission lines)

  • It is revealed that duality and similarity between both capacitance and inductance systems coexist, and also that the former is more efficient than the latter in application viewpoints in time-invariant linear cases as far as both systems are concerned. This paper, using the similarity relation, proposes a new magnetics capacity concept similar to electrostatic capacity so that inductance systems may be interpreted as the corresponding capacitance systems. The new concept makes it convenient to analyze the both systems by unified approach. Finally an example demonstrates the applicability and convenience of the proposed method, through the analysis of capacitances and inductances on the transposed transmission line.

  • This paper propose a rectification technique by applying the Projection matrices derived from perspective projection matrices estimated from self-calibrated stereo image pairs. The derivation is made such that two epipolar lines are in parallel. Rectified images are generated by reprojecting corresponding image points. For the performance analysis of this technique, vertical coordinates of rectified points are compare to those obtained by the technique[3].

  • 본 논문에서는 파장 고정 광원 한 개와 2${\times}$2 광 MEMS 스위치, 그리고 광섬유 지연선로로 구성된 4-비트 선형 위상배열 안테나(Phased Array Antenna: PAA)용 광 실시간 지연선로 (True Time-Delay; TTD)의 구조를 설계하였고, 두 개의 안테나 소자로 구성된 10-GHz PAA 구동을 위해 단위 시간 지연 차이가 6 ps인 4-비트 TTD를 구현하였다. 실험 결과, 최대 시간지연 오차는 -0.4 ps로 측정되었으며, 이에 대한 최대 주사각 오차는 1.63$^{\circ}$로 나타나, 구현한 TTD의 성능이 이론치와 서로 일치하는 것을 확인하였다. 각 안테나 소자에 연결된 광 MEMS 스위치와 광섬유 지연선로의 삽입손실은 스위치 상태에 따라 최소 1.36 ㏈에서 최대 2.4 ㏈로 측정되었으며, 또한 정해진 주사각의 경우에는, 안테나 소자 간 삽입손실 차이가 최대 0.32 ㏈로 측정되었다. 안테나 소자 전단의 증폭기 이득 조정이나 가변 감쇄기를 사용하여 삽입손실을 균등화시키면, 기존의 파장 가변 광원을 이용하는 TTD 구조들 보다 안정적이며 경제적인 TTD 구조가 될 것으로 예상된다.

  • 소두의 형질상호간의 표현형상관, 유전상관 그리고 환경상관을 알고자 1963년 재래종 적두$\times$일본종서병을 지배하여 1967년 F4 세대 40계통을 재료로 선발실험을 하였다. 조사형채은 개화일수, 경직경, 분지수 1주래수, 입중, 전식물체중, 100입중의 8개형질이었고 이들 각형질상호간의 표현형공분산, 유전공분산, 환경공분산과 각형질의 표현형분산을 본봐 그 결과는 제1표와 같이 환경공분산과 표현형분산은 형질 또는 형질간의 조합에 따라 변동이 심하나 대체로 유전공분산은 표현형공분산보다 다소 크다.(표1) 각형질 상호간의 표현형상관, 유전상관, 환경상관을 계산한바 제2표와같이 대체로 유전상관의 값은 표현형상관보다 그값이 크다. (표2), 수량과의 상관을 보면 1주래수가 수량에 영향한다고 보이며 1주래수가 많은 것은 입수도 많은 것이 당연하므로 소두는 대두와 달리 수량과 개화일수 또는 수량과 경직경 같에는 상관이 보이지 아니하므로 1주래수와 1주입수의 2개형질은 소두의 다수계통, 선택을 위한 중요한 선택형질이 될것으로 믿는다.

High Power Switchable Dual-Wavelength Linear Polarized Yb-Dozped Fiber Laser around 1120 nm

  • A single-and dual-wavelength switchable polarized Yb-doped double-clad fiber laser around 1120 nm based on a pair of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) is demonstrated. The polarization-maintaining (PM) linear cavity is composed of a double clad PM Yb-doped fiber (YDF) and a pair of PM FBGs. The laser can operate in stable dual-wavelength or wavelength-switching modes due to the polarization hole burning (PHB) and the spatial hole burning (SHB) enhanced by the PM linear cavity. In dual-wavelength operation, the two orthogonally polarized wavelengths are centered at 1118.912 nm and 1119.152 nm, with an interval of 0.24 nm and a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 35 dB. The maximum output power is 14.67 W when the launched LD pump is 24 W corresponding to an optical efficiency of 61.1%. The lasing lines switchover may be realized by adjusting the polarization controller (PC) fitted in the cavity. The two single-wavelengths are 1118.912 nm and 1119.152 nm. When the injected LD pump is 24 W, the highest output powers are 7.68 W and 8.64 W corresponding to optical efficiencies of 32% and 36% respectively. The spectral linewidth of the lasing lines are 0.075 nm and 0.07 nm, and the average numerical values of PER aredB and 19.9 dB, respectively.

Long-term exposure to gefitinib differentially regulates the endosomal sorting complex required for transport machinery, which accelerates the metastatic potential of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells

  • Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), which accounts for approximately 90% of oral cancers, has a high rate of local recurrence and a poor prognosis despite improvements in treatment. Exosomes released from OSCC cells promote cell proliferation and metastasis. Although it is clear that the biogenesis of exosomes is mediated by the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery, the gene expression pattern of ESCRT, depending on the cell type, remains elusive. The exosomal release from the human OSCC cell lines, HSC-3 and HSC-4, and their corresponding gefitinib-resistant sub-cell lines, HSC-3/GR and HSC-4/GR, was assessed by western blot and flow cytometry. The levels of ESCRT machinery proteins, including Hrs, Tsg101, and Alix, and whole-cell ubiquitination were evaluated by western blot. We observed that the basal level of exosomal release was higher in HSC-3/GR and HSC-4/GR cells than in HSC-3 and HSC-4 cells, respectively. Long-term gefitinib exposure of each cell line and its corresponding gefitinib-resistant sub-cell line differentially induced the expression of the ESCRT machinery. Furthermore, whole-cell ubiquitination and autophagic flux were shown to be increased in gefitinib-treated HSC-3 and HSC-4 cells. Our data indicate that the expression patterns of the ESCRT machinery genes are differentially regulated by the characteristics of cells, such as intracellular energy metabolism. Therefore, the expression patterns of the ESCRT machinery should be considered as a key factor to improve the treatment strategy for OSCC.
