  • The constant correlation factors between the Temkin and the Langmuir or the Frumkin adsorption isotherms of over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) for the cathodic H2 evolution reaction (HER) at poly-Pt and Re/0.5M $H_2SO_4$ and poly-Ni/0.05 M KOH aqueous electrolyte interfaces have been experimentally and consistently found using the phase-shift method. At intermediate values of the fractional surface coverage $(\theta),\;i.e.,\;02<{\theta}<0.8$, the Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherms of OPD H for the cathodic HER are correlated to each other even though the adsorption conditions or processes are different from each other. At the same range of $\theta$, correspondingly, the Frumkin and Temkin adsorption isotherms of OPD H for the cathodic HER are correlated to each other. The equilibrium constants $(K_o)$ for the Temkin adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$ are consistently ca. 10 times greater than those (K, Ko) for the corresponding Langmuir or Frumkin adsorption isotherms ($({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$. The interaction parameters (g) for the Temkin adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$ are consistently ra. 4.6 greater than those (g) for the corresponding Langmuir or Frumkin adsorption isotherms $({\theta}\;vs.\; E)$. These numbers (10 times and 4.6) can be taken as constant correlation factors between the corresponding adsolftion isotherms (Temkin, Langmuir, Frumkin) at the interfaces. The Temkin adsorption isotherm corresponding to the Langmuir or the Frumkin adsorption isotherm, and vice versa, can be effectively verified or confirmed using the constant correlation factors. Both the phase-shift methodand constant correlation factors are useful and effective for determining or confirming the suitable adsorption isotherms (Temkin, Langmuir, Frumkin) of intermediates for sequential reactions in electrochemical systems.

  • The structures of 1,n-alkanedithiol (n = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on a Au(111) substrate were investigated by electrochemical measurements and theoretical calculations. The results of the experimental techniques indicated that the dithiols, except n = 2, showed an upright molecular structure in the SAMs, in which alkanedithiols were bound to the Au surface via only one thiol functionality and the other one faced up to the air. The results also suggested that the formed dithiol SAMs were densely packed and highly oriented. Except ethanedithiol, which was thought to form a bilayer, the reductive desorption peak potentials of 1,n-alkanedithiol (n = 4, 6, 8, 10) SAMs were more negative than those of the corresponding monothiol ones in 0.1 M KOH solutions. This illustrates that the dithiol SAMs had higher stability than the corresponding monothiol ones. The major part of the high stability may be attributed to the van der Waals interaction among the sulfur atoms on top of the dithiol SAMs. The molecular modeling calculation showed that the structures of dithiol SAMs were similar to those of the corresponding monothiol SAMs and that all the dithiol SAMs, except ethanedithiol, were more stable than the corresponding monothiol SAMs. The calculated energy differences between dithiol and monothiol SAMs decreased with the increment of alkyl-chain length.

  • Purpose: To develop a program for analyzing the condition of implanted ICL lenses in case the residual astigmatism appears after the implantation. Methods: From analyzing the measured residual astigmatism after operating ICL lens, we could induce formulas that produce the rotating angle and the corresponding MR prescription of the implanted ICL lens. Using the Delphi 6.0 language, we could develop a program by which we conveniently confirm, in the window screen visually, the rotating angle and the corresponding MR prescription of the implanted ICL lens calculated by these formulas. Results: We induced formulas that produce the rotating angle and the corresponding MR prescription of the implanted ICL lens by analyzing the measured residual astigmatism after operating ICL lens and developed a program which can analyze the condition of the implanted ICL lens. By this program we could easily analyze the condition of the implanted ICL lens. Conclusions: Judging from the results of applying this program to many clinical cases, we could conclude that this program is very effective in analyzing the condition of implanted ICL lenses.

  • This paper presents a searching method of corresponding points robust to rotational error for scan-matching used for SLAM(Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) in mobile robot. A differential driving mechanism is one of the most popular type for mobile robot. For driving curved path, this type controls the velocities of each two wheels independently. This case increases a wheel slip of the mobile robot more than the case of straight path driving. And this is the reason of a drifting problem. To handle this problem and improves the performance of scan-matching, this paper proposes a searching method of corresponding points using extraction of a closest point based on rotational radius of the mobile robot. To verify the proposed method, the experiment was conducted using LRF(Laser Range Finder). Then the proposed method is compared with an existing method, which is an existing method based on euclidian closest point. The result of our study reflects that the proposed method can improve the performance of searching corresponding points.

  • For structural damage detection of shear buildings, this paper proposes a new concept using structural element mass-stiffness vector (SEMV) based on special mass and stiffness distribution characteristics. A corresponding damage identification method is developed combining the SEMV with the cross-model cross-mode (CMCM) model updating algorithm. For a shear building, a model is assumed at the beginning based on the building's distribution characteristics. The model is updated into two models corresponding to the healthy and damaged conditions, respectively, using the CMCM method according to the modal parameters of actual structure identified from the measured acceleration signals. Subsequently, the structural SEMV for each condition can be calculated from the updated model using the corresponding stiffness and mass correction factors, and then is utilized to form a new feature vector in which each element is calculated by dividing one element of SEMV in health condition by the corresponding element of SEMV in damage condition. Thus this vector can be viewed as a damage detection feature for its ability to identify the mass or stiffness variation between the healthy and damaged conditions. Finally, a numerical simulation and the laboratory experimental data from a test-bed structure at the Los Alamos National Laboratory were analyzed to verify the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. Both simulated and experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to detect the presence of structural mass and stiffness variation and to quantify the level of such changes.

  • In weighted k-nearest neighbor (WkNN)-based Fingerprinting positioning step, a process of comparing the requested positioning signal with signal information for each reference point stored in the fingerprint DB is performed. At this time, the higher the number of matched base station identifiers, the higher the possibility that the terminal exists in the corresponding location, and in fact, an additional weight is added to the location in proportion to the number of matching base stations. On the other hand, if the matching number of base stations is small, the selected candidate reference point has high dependence on the similarity value of the signal. But one problem arises here. The positioning signal can be compared with the repeater signal in the signal information stored on the DB, and the corresponding reference point can be selected as a candidate location. The selected reference point is likely to be an outlier, and if a certain weight is applied to the corresponding location, the error of the estimated location information increases. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a WkNN technique including an outlier removal function. To this end, it is first determined whether the repeater signal is included in the DB information of the matched base station. If the reference point for the repeater signal is selected as the candidate position, the reference position corresponding to the outlier is removed based on the clustering technique. The performance of the proposed technique is verified through data acquired in Seocho 1 and 2 dongs in Seoul.

  • The approximate rates and stoichiometry of the reaction of excess sodium diethyldihydroaluminate (SDDA) with 68 selected organic compounds containing representative functional groups were examined under standard conditions (THF-toluene, $0^{\circ}C$ in order to compare its reducing characteristics with lithium aluminum hydride (LAH), aluminum hydride, and diisobutylaluminum hydride (DIBAH) previously examined, and enlarge the scope of its applicability as a reducing agent. Alcohols, phenol, thiols and amines evolve hydrogen rapidly and quantitatively. Aldehydes and ketones of diverse structure are reduced rapidly to the corresponding alcohols. Reduction of norcamphor gives 11% exo-and 89% endo-norborneol. Conjugated aldehydes such as cinnamaldehyde are rapidly and cleanly reduced to the corresponding allylic alcohols. p-Benzoquinone is mainly reduced to hydroquinone. Hexanoic acid and benzoic acid liberate hydrogen rapidly and quantitatively, however reduction proceeds very slowly. Acid chlorides and esters tested are all reduced rapidly to the corresponding alcohols. However cyclic acid anhydrides such as succinic anhydride are reduced to the lactone stage rapidly, but very slowly thereafter. Although alkyl chlorides are reduced very slowly alkyl bromides, alkyl iodides and epoxides are reduced rapidly with an uptake of 1 equiv of hydride. Styrene oxide is reduced to give 1-phenylethanol quantitatively. Primary amides are reduced very slowly; however, tertiary amides take up 1 equiv of hydride rapidly. Tertiary amides could be reduced to the corresponding aldehydes in very good yield ( > 90%) by reacting with equimolar SDDA at room temperature. Hexanenitrile is reduced moderately accompanying 0.6 equiv of hydrogen evolution, however the reduction of benzonitrile proceeds rapidly to the imine stage and very slowly thereafter. Benzonitrile was reduced to give 90% yield of benzaldehyde by reaction with 1.1 equiv of hydride. Nitro compounds, azobenzene and azoxybenzene are reduced moderately at $0^{\circ}C$, but nitrobenzene is rapidly reduced to hydrazobenzene stage at room temperature. Cyclohexanone oxime is reduced to the hydroxylamine stage in 12 h and no further reaction is apparent. Pyridine is reduced sluggishly at $0^{\circ}C$, but moderately at room temperature to 1,2-dihydropyridine stage in 6 h; however further reaction is very slow. Disulfides and sulfoxides are reduced rapidly, whereas sulfide, sulfone, sulfonic acid and sulfonate are inert under these reaction conditions.

  • A comparative electrophoretic study on protein and several important enzymes of calli induced from stem, intercostal area and minor vein area were conducted in Pinella ternata (Thunb.) Breit. Soluble protein band patterns of calli induced from stem, intercostal area and minor vein area were distinctly different from those of the corresponding plant parts. Esterase isozyme patterns of calli induced from stem, intercostal area and minor vein area were different from those of the corresponding plant parts. Glutamate oxalo-acetate transaminase isozyme patterns of calli grown for 4 weeks induced from 3 plant parts were similar to those of the corresponding plant parts. But a high molecular weight isozyme band appeared in the calli grown for 8 weeks. Alow molecular weight isozyme band disappeared on the peroxidase isozyme patterns of calli grown for 4 weeks appeared on those of the corresponding plant parts.

  • In this paper I applies Borer (1993)'s way of classifying English intransitive action verbs such as 'run', walk, among many others, to the corresponding Korean intransitive action verbs such as 'tali-ta' and 'keət-ta', and show how they are different from - or similar with - each other in terms of syntactic structures and verb classification. Unlike the English verb 'run' which can be classified into an unaccusative verb as well as an unergative verb in Borer's theory, the corresponding Korean verbs 'tali-ta' or 't'wi-ta' can behave not only as an unergative and unauucsative verb, but also it can behave as a transitive verb. Though Borer's perspective on classification of verb types may be thought of as somewhat radical mostly due to its heavy dependency on aspectual representation of a whole sentence which a verb is just part of, it is clearly suggesting a new and great insight into the controversial topic of classification of verb types. So it is worth adopting this insightful perspective for the analysis of corresponding Korean verbs and seeing if it also works for the Korean ones.
