A correlation-based analysis on wind-induced interference effects between two tall buildings

  • Wind-induced mean and dynamic interference effects of tall buildings are studied in detail by a series of wind tunnel tests in this paper. Interference excitations of several types of upwind structures of different sizes in different upwind terrains are considered. Comprehensive interference characteristics are investigated by artificial neural networks and correlation analysis. Mechanism of the wakes vortex-induced resonance is discussed, too. Measured results show significant correlations exist in the distributions of the interference factors of different configurations and upwind terrains and, therefore, a series of relevant regression equations are proposed to simplify the complexity of the multi-parameter wind induced interference effects between two tall buildings.

  • The aim of this paper is to analyse correlation between the national competitiveness and research competitiveness in OECD countries. As the result of correlation analysis there are positive correlations among competitiveness indicators(GERD, SCI articles, average citation counts, JCR journal titles, patents). And SCI articles and peer-reviewed journals emanating from the developed countries or the OECD is essential to maintaining national and research competitiveness in Korea. This study also calls for further correlation analysis between research competitiveness and academic libraries.

A Study on Sex Role Identity, Clothing Involvement, and Clothing Satisfaction of High School Students (고교생의 성역할 정체감과 의복관여 및 의복만족에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between Sex Role Identity, Clothing Involvement, and Clothing Satisfaction, among high school students, and the difference of Sex Role Identity, Clothing Involvement, and Clothing Satisfaction according to demographic variables. The questionaire survey was used toward 555 high school students in seoul region during October, 1998. SAS package program were used to analyze the gatherd data. Frequency, Percentage. Factor Analysis, Duncan test, Correlation Analysis and so on. The conclusion based on the results are as follows: 1. With the analyses of Sex Role Identity, Clothing Involvement, and Clothing Satisfaction, we divided the polarized Sex Role Identity into four factors : androgynous, masculine, feminine and undifferentited type. Four factors are considered to decide Clothing Involvement: fashion, interesting pleasure, symbolism, and utility perceived risk. 2. There are significant differences in Sex Role Identity, Clothing Involvement, and Clothing Satisfaction according to demographic variables. 3. The analysis of correlations among Sex Role Identity, Clothing Involvement and Clothing Satisfaction showed that there are significant among them.

  • In this paper, diagnosis for 85 high voltage induction motors which have operated for more than 20 years in 18 wide area water supply offices were applied and the results of diagnosis were analysed. Furthermore, main factors that would be affecting rotor defects were selected and correlations between dependent variables which was magnitude for sideband frequency on current during operation and independent variables such as starting characteristic, operating time, number of operation, load factor, maker, rotation speed, capacity were analysed. It was clear that factors including starting characteristic, number of operation, maker, rotation speed caused break by correlation analysis. From this, regression equation was deduced through regression analysis. Based on suggested regression equation, it is applied usefully that we can estimate the condition of rotor without onsite diagnosis and plan the schedule of diagnosis.

  • In this study, the characteristics of internal flow and the heat transfer performance of dimpled plate heat exchanger were numerically investigated. For the numerical analysis, conjugate heat transfer method between cold fluid - plate - hot fluid was studied with appropriate boundary conditions. Velocity magnitude, temperature and pressure distribution were obtained from the simulation. Correlations for fanning f-factor and Colburn j-factor were obtained from numerical results and compared to the experimented data.

  • The moyamoya disease is a type of cerebrovascular disease which produces thin abnormal blood vessels like haze in the brain base because the end of internal carotid artery which supplies about 80% of blood is blocked. Regarding this moyamoya disease, the shearing stress and thrombus generation are mentioned as its main causes. This study three-dimensionally implemented the ICA, ACA, and MCA parts of the cerebrovascular configuration related to the moyamoya disease, and analyzed the hydrodynamic phenomenon with the commercial program ADINA. In particular, the correlations between shearing stress and speed distribution according to the branch angle of ACA and MCA. A numerical analysis found that the greater the branch angle of ACA and MCA, the lower the shearing stress and the greater the stationary area of the flow.. Put Abstract text here.

  • A web GIS based database system of thermophysical property of rocks in Korea is under construction. Rock samples were randomly collected over the whole country and sample spacings were generally 1 to 10 km. Thermal diffusivity, spedific heat, thermal conductivity, specific heat, density and porosity were measured on a collection of 1,560 rock samples in the laboratory. The sampled rocks were classified into igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rock types and the variables were statistically studied. The thermal conductivity were compared with thermal diffusivity, porosity and dry density to define any correlations and the distribution of thermal conductivity is characterized by the geostatistical analysis. The optimal mapping of thermal conductivity is very useful as a practical design component for any geothermal systems.

  • In this study, following works have been carried out : division of Nakdong River Basin into 25 sub basins, development of a technique to evaluate spatial distribution of rainfall and analysis of rainfall data of 169 stations, selection of control points, and selection of a hydrologic model(SSARR). Analysis results were found that total volume of discharges at every control points have errors in a reasonable range, and the correlations between observed and calculated daily runoff discharges at every control points were well coincided.

The Effects of Multiple Body Image on Clothing Behavior (다차원적 신체이미지가 의복행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between various aspects of multiple body image and clothing behavior i.e. individuality/self expression, body improvement, social approval, sex appeal. The data were collected from 498 female university students in Seoul and Kyong Ki Province and analyzed using factor analysis, Pearsons correlations, reliability test, analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Four dimensions of multiple body image were identified : appearance, body attractiveness, degree of fitness and atheletic skill. 2) Perception on appearance and fitness aspect of multiple body image has a positive correlation with all aspects of clothing behavior i.e. individuality/self expression, body improvement, social approval and sex appeal of clothing behavior. Body attractiveness and atheletic skill of multiple body image also had a positive correlation with individuality/self expression, and sex appeal.

Separation of Blind Signals Using Robust ICA Based-on Neural Networks (신경망 기반 Robust ICA에 의한 은닉신호의 분리)

  • This paper proposes a separation of mixed signals by using the robust independent component analysis(RICA) based on neural networks. RICA is based on the temporal correlations and the second order statistics of signal. This method e is applied for improving the analysis rate and speed in which the sources have very small or zero kurtosis. The proposed method has been applied for separating the 10 mixed finger prints of $256{\times}256$-pixel and the 4 mixed images of $512{\times}512$-pixel, respectively. The simulation results show that RICA has the separating rate and speed better than those using the conventional FP algorithm based on Newton method.
