  • The surface color of several varieties of apples were expressed quantitatively in xyz chromaticity coordinates. The spectral reflectance of 'Fuji' apples were measured in 400-820 nm range by using a spectrophotometer. Based on the spectrophotometer data and the result of visual sensory test, linear regression models were developed to select wavelengths effective for sorting apples. The models utilized reflectance at single wavelength, and the difference and ratio of the reflectance at two distinct wavelengths. The model which best fitted the visual sensory test data was one utilizing the ratio of the reflectance at 618 nm and 514nm. The correlation coefficient for this model was 0.967. Several other models were also described.

  • Morphological luminosity parameters$(\mu_e,\;r_e,\;\mu_0,\;\alpha^{-1})$ and D/B were estimated from the decomposition of surface brightness distributions of 28 extra galaxies. Decomposition was made using the standard non-linear least square fitting method and we used the seeing convolved model to get the central brightness of these galaxies. Masses and $M/L_B$ were calculated using rotational velocities of these galaxies from the fitting to the generalized Toomre's mass model.

  • In the first-order moving average model, we present the exact likelihood equations as function of variance, correlation and parameters of coefficients in the orthogonally transformed model. Existence of maximum likelihood estimates for these unknowns are studied and a computational method is provided. (Because of the limited space Ive do not present the computer program which is written in FORTRAN.) 40 sets of generated data and economic data are used to demonstrate, and few of them are presented in the Appendix. A numerical comparison of MLE with the efficient estimate proposed by Durbin is presented in the particular case.

  • This paper deals with the prediction and the evaluation of the measured seismic responses of the Hualien large-scale seismic test soil-structure system. The predicted analysis was carried out for the model structure by the computer code SASSI utilizing soil properties derived from geotechnical investigations and correlation analysis of recorded earthquake responses of soil. Utilizing the soil properties, seismic responses were predicted and compared with measured ones. The nonlinear effects of soil on structural responses were also evaluated.

  • In this paper, nonlinear analyses of RC (Reinforced Concrete) columns are conducted, and an improved criterion to estimate the design load carrying capacity of slender RC columns is proposed. To simulate the material nonlinearty including the cracking of concrete, the layer model is adopted, and the initial stress matrix is considered for the simulation of P- effect. After correlation studies with previous numerical results to verify the efficiency of the developed numerical model, many parameter studies are followed, and a regression formula which can give more exact resisting capacity of slender RC columns is introduced on the basis of the obtained numerical results.

  • The method of generalized estimating equations (GEEs) provides consistent esti- mates of the regression parameters in a marginal regression model for longitudinal data, even when the working correlation model is misspecified (Liang and Zeger, 1986). In this paper we compare the estimators of parameters in GEE approach. We consider two aspects: coverage probabilites and efficiency. We adopted to ordinal responses th results derived from binary outcomes.

  • This paper proposes a new quantitative and objective image quality metric which is essential to verify the performance of block-based DCT image coding. The proposed metric considers not only global distortion of coded image such as spatial frequency sensitivity and channel masking using HVS based multi-channel model, but also structural distortions caused block-based coding. The experimental results show a strong correlation between proposed metric and subjective metric.

  • We review a multivariate version of Kendall's tau based on direction vectors of observations. And with this statistic we propose an analog of the forward variable selection method which selects a set of independent variables for further studies to build the eventual predicting model. This method does not assume the distributions of observations and the linear model and it is strong to the outliers with high asymptotic efficiencies relative to the parametric Pearson's correlation coefficient.

  • Background: In breast cancer (BC), it has been suggested that nuclear overexpression of p53 protein might be an indicator of poor prognosis. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the expression of p53 BC in Kurdish women from the West of Iran and its correlation with other clinicopathology figures. Materials and Methods: In the present retrospective study, 231 patients were investigated for estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) positivity, defined as ${\geq}10%$ positive tumor cells with nuclear staining. A binary logistic regression model was selected using Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) in stepwise selection for determination of important factors. Results: ER, PR, the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and p53 were positive in 58.4%, 55.4%, 59.7% and 45% of cases, respectively. Ki67 index was divided into two groups: 54.5% had Ki67<20% and 45.5% had Ki67 ${\geq}20%$. Of 214 patients, 137(64%) had lymph node metastasis and of 186 patients, 122(65.6%) had vascular invasion. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that there was inverse significant correlation between lymph node metastasis (P=0.008, OR 0.120 and 95%CI 0.025-0.574), ER status (P=0.006, OR 0.080, 95%CI 0.014-0.477) and a direct correlation between HER2 (P=005, OR 3.047, 95%CI 1.407-6.599) with the expression of p53. Conclusions: As in a number of studies, expression of p53 had a inverse correlation with lymph node metastasis and ER status and also a direct correlation with HER2 status. Also, p53-positivity is more likely in triple negative BC compared to other subtypes.
