On the Study of Perfect Coverage for Recommender System

  • The similarity weight, the pearson's correlation coefficient, which is used in the recommender system has a weak point that it cannot predict all of the prediction value. The similarity weight, the vector similarity, has a weak point of the high MAE although the prediction coverage using the vector similarity is higher than that using the pearson's correlation coefficient. The purpose of this study is to suggest how to raise the prediction coverage. Also, the MAE using the suggested method in this study was compared both with the MAE using the pearson's correlation coefficient and with the MAE using the vector similarity, so was the prediction coverage. As a result, it was found that the low of the MAE in the case of using the suggested method was higher than that using the pearson's correlation coefficient. However, it was also shown that it was lower than that using the vector similarity. In terms of the prediction coverage, when the suggested method was compared with two similarity weights as I mentioned above, it was found that its prediction coverage was higher than that pearson's correlation coefficient as well as vector similarity.

식사섭취조사방법의 비교연구 (Comparison of Dietary Methods in Nutritional Studies)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of various dietary methods. Dietary intake of 24 patients on regular diet was investigated by three methods. One method was a precise weighing method, the others were 24-hour dietary recall method and convenient dietary questionnaries. The results obtained are summarized as followes ; 1) There were no significant differences in mean nutrient intake of subjects among three dietary survey methods. 2) The validity coefficient between the precise weighing method and 24-hour recall method, ranging from 0.26(fat) to 0.59(carbohydrate) showed significant correlation for carbohydrate, vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin and ascorbic and intakes. 3) The validity coefficient between precise weighting method and covenient dietary questionnaires, ranging from 0.14(fat) to 0.80(vitamin A), showed a significant correlation for most nutrients. 4) Female showed higher correlation between the precise weighing method and 24-hour recall method than male subjects for most nutrients. However, there was no significant sexual difference of correlation between weighing method and convenient method. 5) The correlation coefficient between the precise weighing method and the other two methods by age group showed younger sujbects have a higher significant correlation than older subjects for most nutrients.

  • A effective teaching method on correlation coefficient for elementary level statistics course is discussed in this article. The well known inequalities, such as Theorem 368 of Hardy et al. (1952), are used for the interpretation of concept of covariance. An Excel example is provided for the illustration of concept of correlation coefficient.

  • In order to improve the accuracy and universality of the flow metric correlation analysis, this paper firstly analyzes the characteristics of Internet flow metrics as random variables, points out the disadvantages of Pearson Correlation Coefficient which is used to measure the correlation between two flow metrics by current researches. Then a method based on Symmetrical Uncertainty is proposed to measure the correlation between two flow metrics, and is extended to measure the correlation among multi-variables. Meanwhile, the simulation and polynomial fitting method are used to reveal the threshold value between different correlation degrees for SU method. The statistical analysis results on the common flow metrics using several traces show that Symmetrical Uncertainty can not only represent the correct aspects of Pearson Correlation Coefficient, but also make up for its shortcomings, thus achieve the purpose of measuring flow metric correlation quantitatively and accurately. On the other hand, reveal the actual relationship among fourteen common flow metrics.

디지털 입자 홀로그래피에서 입자의 초점면 결정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Determination of the Focal Plane of Particle in Digital Particle Holography)

  • The correlation coefficient method, which was proposed by our research group, is applied to digital particle holography to locate the focal plane of particles. It uses the fact that the correlation coefficient is maximum at the focal plane. The factors influencing this method are discussed with a numerical simulation of holograms. For real holograms, the Wiener filter was proposed to process both recorded holograms and reconstructed images. The application results using the dot array target showed that the Wiener filter is a very effective tool for processing holography-related images. The effects of the dot size and the object distance on the errors in the determination of the focal plane by the correlation coefficient method were investigated by using the calibration target.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple method to reduce categorical variables into smaller, but significant numbers, and also demonstrate how the proposed method can be applied to the problem of reduction that empirical research often faces in the course of data processing. For the purpose, we introduce a concept of pseudo-correlation coefficient to make it possible to use factor analysis (FA) as a tool for reducing variables. The main idea of the concept is to deal with the measures of association of categorical variables in the sense of the concept of Pearson's correlation coefficient in order to meet the input requirement of FA. Upon examination of existing measures that could play as pseudo-correlation coefficients, Cramer's V coefficient is selected for the best result among them. To show the detailed procedure of the proposed method, a specific demonstration with the data from 329 R&D projects conducted in 18 private laboratories in electric and electronics industry is presented.

식품 중 조단백질 정량을 위한 켈달법과 듀마스법 비교 연구 (A comparison study of crude protein contents obtained utilizing the Kjeldahl method and Dumas combustion method in foods)

  • 본 연구에서는 곡물, 육류, 해산물, 채소류등에 대하여 식품공전에 등재되어 있는 켈달법(Kjeldahl method)과 AOAC에 등재되어 있는 듀마스법(Dumas method)을 이용하여 조단백질을 비교 분석하였다. 두 시험법에 대해 총 31종의 시료를 3회 반복 시험한 결과 대부분 비슷한 결과를 나타내었다. 곡물류의 경우 백미를 포함 총 9 종을 분석하였고, 켈달법과 듀마스법 결과간의 상관관계를 비교한 결과 correlation coefficient가 0.994, p-value는 0.956로 두 결과값간의 유의적 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 육류 9 종에 대해서는 correlation coefficient이 0.9725, p-value는 0.947, 해산물 5 종에 대해서는 correlation coefficient 값이 0.9879, p-value는 0.761, chemical시료 3종에 대해서는 correlation coefficient값이 0.9985, p-value는 0.997, 채소류 4 종에 대해서는 correlation coefficient값이 0.9873, p-value는 0.727로 시료간 약간의 차이는 있으나 켈달법과 듀마스법간에는 유의적 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 육류의 경우 시료의 균질성이 좋지 않아 소량을 칭취하여 분석해야 하는 듀마스법에서 재현성이 좋지 않았다. 다만 시료 중 질산염을 많이 함유하고 있는 채소류의 경우 켈달법을 이용하여 분석시 완전한 분해가 이루어지지 않아 듀마스의 결과보다는 낮은 함량값을 나타내었다. 또한 듀마스 법의 경우 약 0.1 g의 적은 시료를 사용하여 분석하기 때문에 분석시 시료의 균질성이 보장되어야 한다. 두 시험법 모두 순단백질을 직접 정량하는 것이 아닌 질소 분석을 바탕으로 단백질 함량을 구하는 것이기 때문에 정확성이 높다고 할 수 없지만, 샘플의 특성에 따라 적절한 분석방법을 선택하여 분석하는 것이 중요하다.

  • 정규 상호 상관 (상관계수)은 입자영상유속계(PIV) 분석에서 형태 분석을 위한 가장 정확하고 적합한 척도이다. 그러나 상관계수는 주파수 영역에서 그에 상당하는 간단한 수식 표현이 없기 때문에, 빠르지만 부정확한 척도들이 종종 이용된다. 이러한 척도 중에서 선정된 세 가지 방법과 상관계수법을 상호 비교하였다. 그 결과 상관계수법을 제외한 나머지 척도들은 모두 종종 부정확한 결과를 도출함을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 상관계수법은 계산 시간이 많이 걸린다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해, 상관계수법을 계산하는 빠르고 정확한 방법을 제시하였다. 이 방법은 상관계수의 분산을 계산하는 Fn 알고리듬과 분모를 계산하는 순차가감법을 결합한 것이다. 시험 결과 이 방법은 상관계수를 빠르고 정확하게 계산할 수 있음을 보였다.
