  • In this paper, we have analyzed TCP performance over wireless correlated fading links with and without Snoop protocol. For a given value of the packet error rate, TCP performance without Snoop protocol is degraded as the fading is getting fast (i.e. the user moves fast). When Snoop protocol is introduced in the base station, TCP performance is enhanced in most wireless environments. Especially the performance enhancement derived from using Snoop protocol is large in fast fading channel. This is because packet errors become random and sporadic in fast fading channel and these random packet errors (mostly single packet errors) can be compensated efficiently by Snoop protocol's local packet retransmissions. But Snoop protocol can't give a large performance improvement in slow fading environments where long bursts of packet errors occur. Concerning to packet error rate, Snoop protocol results in the highest performance enhancement in the channel with mid-high values of packet error rate. This means Snoop protocol cannot fully fulfill its ability under too low or too high packet error rate environments.

  • The performance of the adaptive noise canceller using LMS algorithm is degraded by the gradient noise due to target speech signals. An adaptive noise canceller with speech detector was proposed to reduce this performande degradation. The speech detector utilized the adaptive prediction-error filter adapted by the NLMS algorithm. This paper discusses to enhance the performance of the adaptive noise canceller forthecorlored noise. The affine projection algorithm, which is known as faster than NLMS algorithm for correlated signals, is used to adapt the adaptive filter and the adaptive prediction error filter. When the voice signals are detected by the speech detector, coefficients of adaptive filter are adapted by the sign-error afine projection algorithm which is modified to reduce the miaslignment of adaptive filter coefficients. Otherwirse, they are adapted by affine projection algorithm. To obtain better performance, the proper step size of sign-error affine projection algorithm is discussed. As resutls of computer simulation, it is shown that the performance of the proposed ANC is better than that of conventional one.

  • We can model marine uplink channel environment as time-correlated rician fading channel that has direct path and time varying reflected path. In this channel, error performance of uncoded system can be seriously degraded by multipath inteference. In this paper, we propose Concatenated Zigzag(CZZ) coded binary FSK signaling with noncoherent detection to improve error performance of uplink data in marine environment. CZZ code is a kind of channel coding scheme that is fast decodable as well as fast encodable. We have confirmed error performance of uplink data in marine environment can be improved dramatically through applying CZZ code.

  • A gross error of the observation, in least squares abjustment from the linear model, have an effect on the residuals which are correlated. Therefore the testing procedure by Baarda, which is based on the standardized residual, is modified and varied. In is paper, presented methods which have been suggested for multiple gross error elimination are analized, and applied to the gross error elimination of image coordinates.

  • Global Positioning System (GPS) is currently widely used for aviation applications. Single-frequency GPS receivers are highly affected by the ionospheric delay error, and the ionospheric delay should be corrected for accurate positioning. Single-frequency GPS receivers use the Klobuchar model, whose model parameters are transmitted from GPS satellites. In this paper, the long-term accuracy of the Klobuchar model from 2002 to 2014 is analyzed. The IGS global ionosphere map is considered as true ionospheric delay, and hourly, seasonal, and geographical error variations are analyzed. Histogram of the ionospheric delay error is also analyzed. The influence of solar and geomagnetic activity on the Klobuchar model error is analyzed, and the Klobuchar model error is highly correlated with solar activity. The results show that the Klobuchar model estimates 8 total electron content unit (TECU) over the true ionosphere delay in average. The Klobuchar model error is greater than 12 TECU within $20^{\circ}$ latitude, and the error is less than 6 TECU at high latitude.

  • Auto-Cross Correlated time series (ACTS) model was constructed by using the backpropagation neural network. The performance of ACTS model was evaluated with sensor information collected from a large volume, industrial plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition system. A total of 18 sensor information were collected. The effect of inclusion of past and future information were examined. For all but three sensor information with a large data variance demonstrated a prediction error less than 3%. By integrating ACTS model into equipment software, process quality can be more stringently monitored while improving device throughput.

  • The performance of dual diversity receivers operating over correlated Ricean fading channels is analyzed. Using a previously derived rapidly converging infinite series representation for the bivariate Ricean probability density function, analytical expressions for the statistics of dual-branch selection combining, maximal-ratio combining, and equal-gain combining output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are derived. These expressions are employed to obtain novel analytical formulae for the average output SNR, amount of fading, average bit error probability, and outage probability. The proposed mathematical analysis is used to study various novel performance evaluation results with parameters of interest the fading severity, average input SNRs, and the correlation coefficient. The series convergence rate is also examined verifying the fast convergence of the analytical expressions. The accuracy of most of the theoretical performance evaluation results are validated by means of computer simulations.

  • The performances of M-ary signals using L-branch maximum ratio combining (MRC) diversity reception in correlated Nakagami fading channels are derived theoretically. The coherent reception of M-ary differential phase shift keying (MDPSK), phase shift keying (MPSK), and quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) is considered. It is assumed that the fading parameters in each diversity branch are identical. The general formula for evaluating symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary signals in the independent branch diversity system is presented using the integral-form expressions. Until now, results did not extend to the various M-ary case for a coherent reception. The numerical results presented in this paper are expected to provide information for the design of radio system using M-ary modulation method for above mentioned channel environment.

  • In the CDMA wireless link, frame errors are correlated and burst because of fading. The implementation ability of RLP error recovery is dependent on the correlated frame errors. The (1,2,3) retransmission scheme, which is recommended as default in IS-707, is not adapted in high frame loss regime with strong correlations. By using the modified error recovery method, where the total number of retransmission attempts is the same and the retransmission is increased, the proposed retransmission scheme can efficiently recover frame errors than the (1,2,3) retransmission scheme. Since the modified scheme has longer transmission delay due to the increase of retransmission round, we propose the algorithm of retransmission failure prediction to improve the modified error recovery scheme. We simulate the modified error recovery scheme applying our algorithm and compare two schemes. (i.e. default scheme by IS-707 and modified scheme) not applying our algorithm. In the result, we show TCP performance improvement is better than default scheme by IS-707.

  • In low bit-rate video transmission, the payload of a single packet can often contain a whole coded frame due to the high compression ratio in both spatial and temporal domains of most modern video coders. Thus, the loss of a single packet not only causes the loss of a whole frame, but also produces error propagation into subsequent frames. In this paper, we propose a novel whole frame error concealment algorithm which reconstructs the first of the subsequent frames instead of the current lost frame to suppress the effects of error propagation. In the proposed algorithm, we impose a constraint which uses side match distortion (SMD) and overlapped region difference (ORD) to estimate motion vectors between the target reconstructed frame and its reference frame. SMD measures the spatial smoothness connection between a block and its neighboring blocks. ORD is defined as the difference between the correlated pixels which are predicted from one reference pixel. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm effectively suppresses error propagation and significantly outperforms other conventional techniques in terms of both peak signal-to-noise ratio performance and subjective visual quality.
