  • Among deteriorations of concrete due to environmental exposure, carbonation problems of concrete structures have increased in urban and underground structures. But conventional carbonation-prediction equations that were proposed by foreign references, can not be applied directly to the prediction of carbonation for domestic concrete structures. The purpose of this study is to propose a prediction equation of carbonation depth by considering domestic exposure conditions of concrete structures. For the derivation of the equation, conventional carbonation-prediction equations are analyzed. Through considering the relationship between results of prediction equation and those of various domestic field survey data, the so-called correction factors for different domestic exposure condition of concrete structures are derived. Finally, a carbonation-prediction equation of concrete structures under domestic exposure conditions is proposed with consideration for concrete strength in core and correction factors.

  • Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) is to estimate potential soil loss and has benefit in use with its simplicity. The equation is composed of five factors, one of the factors is the slope length and steepness factor (LS factor) that is for topographic property of fields to estimate potential soil loss. Since the USLE was developed, many equations to compute LS was suggested with field measurement. Nowadays the factor is often computed in GIS software with digital elevation model, however it was reported that the factor is very sensitive to the resolution of digital elevation model. In addition, the digital elevation model of high resolution less than 3 meter is required in small field application, however these inputs are not associate with the empirical models' backgrounds since the empirical models were derived in 22.1 meter field measurements. In the study, four equation to compute LS factor and two approaches to determine slope length and steepness were examined, and correction factor was suggested to provide reasonable precision in LS estimations. The correction factor is computed with field area and cell size of digital elevation model, thus the correction factor can be adapted in any USLE-based models using LS factor at field level.

  • The present study addresses the open end correction associated with the reflection and discharge phenomena of a weak shock wave from an open end of a duct. The open end correction of the weak shock wave is investigated experimentally and by numerical computation. An experiment is made using a simple shock tube with an open end, and computation is performed to simulate the experimental flow field using the unsteady, axisymmetric, compressible, flow governing equations. The results obtained show that an open end correction should be involved for shock wave discharge and reflection problems generated from the exit of the duct with an open end baffle plate. With a baffle plate less than three times the duct diameter, it is found that the open end correction is a function of both the diameter of the baffle plate and normal shock wave magnitude. However, for a baffle plate larger than three times the duct diameter, it is independent of the baffle plate diameter. The present computations predict the results of shock tube experiment with good accuracy. A new empirical equation for prediction of the open end correction is found for the weak shock reflection and discharge phenomena occurring at the open end of the duct with and without a baffle plate.

  • In estimating the freguency-dependent attenuation coefficient, we analyzed the range-dependent ultrasonic beam and proposed the method of calculating the experimental equation of beam pattern in order to reduce the error on the influence of beam pattern. These experimental equations are divided into the spectral centroid and the spec ural standard deviation slope according to axial propagation length. These are repnesented by the first-order equation in the near field of the beam and the second- order eqLlatlon In the far field. In order to prove the validity of this method, the attenuation coefficients of the non-corrected ease and the corrected case are compared. Using the reflected signal from acryle plate, the attenuation coefficients were estimated by the spectral shift method ann the spectral difference method. The result shows attenuation coeffi talents after correction are better than attenuation coefficients before correction. And this method can be applied In vivo measurement.

  • The object tracking method using particle filtering has been proved successful since it is based on the Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the posterior distribution of the state vector that is nonlinear and non-Gaussian in the real-world situation. In this paper, we present two nobel methods that can improve the performance of the object tracking algorithm based on the particle filtering. First one is the feedback method that replace the low-weighted tracking sample by the estimated state vector in the previous frame. The second one is an tracking box correction method to find an confidence interval of back projection probability on the estimated candidate object area. An sample propagation equation is also presented, which is obtained by experiments. We designed well-organized test data set which reflects various challenging circumstances, and, by using it, experimental results proved that the proposed methods improves the traditional particle filter based object tracking method.

  • A free-surface correction(FSC) method is presented to solve the 3-D shallow water equations. Using the mode splitting process, FSC method can simulate shallow water flows under the hydrostatic assumption. For the hydrostatic pressure calculation, the momentum equations are firstly discretized using a semi-implicit scheme over the vertical direction leading to the tri-diagonal matrix systems. A semi-implicit scheme has been adopted to reduce the numerical instability caused by relatively small vertical length scale compare to horizontal one. and, as the free surface correction step the final horizontal velocity fields are corrected after the final surface elevations are obtained. Finally, the vertical final velocity fields can be calculated from the continuity equation. The numerical model is applied to the calculation of the simulation of flow fields in a rectangular open channel with the tidal influence. The comparisons with the analytical solutions show overall good agreements between the numerical results and analytical solutions.

  • Microphone array beamforming method has been recognized as an important aeroacoustic research field and become a standard technique in localizing sound sources. This method also used in flight acoustic measurement, and especially, it is very useful when measure sounds inside the wind tunnel. In measuring sound which is inside the wind tunnel by traditional beamforming method, there are some errors caused by airstream. The speed and the propagation path of the sound changes as it travel through the airstream. This makes the error which the position of sound is changed a little bit to the down stream direction. In this paper, validation test has made about the correction equation for this wind effects of previous researches. And beamforming including shear layer correction was performed about a sound source in the anechoic open-jet windtunnel.

  • In this study, we analyzed surface temperature of lakes in the Han River system, using Landsat-5 and -7 time-series images. Surface temperature was extracted using NASA equation and compared with in situ 10m-depth temperature in Lake Soyang and surface temperature on five other dam lakes downstream. The 24 images out of 29 showed standard deviation of temperature difference less than $2^{\circ}C$, to which a novel statistical atmospheric correction could be applied. The correlation coefficients were 0.950 at Lake Soyang and 0.979-0.997 at the other lakes after atmospheric correction.
