A NOTE ON A FINITE ELEMENT METHOD DEALING WITH CORNER SINGULARITIES

  • Recently the first author and his coworker report a new finite element method for the Poisson equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on a polygonal domain with one re-entrant angle [7], They use the well-known fact that the solution of such problem has a singular representation, deduced a well-posed new variational problem for a regular part of solution and an extraction formula for the so-called stress intensity factor using tow cut-off functions. They use Fredholm alternative an Garding's inequality to establish the well-posedness of the variational problem and finite element approximation, so there is a maximum bound for mesh h theoretically. although the numerical experiments shows the convergence for every reasonable h with reasonable size y imposing a restriction to the support of the extra cut-off function without using Garding's inequality. We also give error analysis with similar results.

  • In the present study, we attempted to add the incompatible functions as additional variable terms to the conventional u-p formulation. It is derived from the four-field generalized variational principle that encompasses velocity, pressure, velocity strains and stress fields as independent interpolated variables. As a severe test of the present formulation, we have investigated the driven cavity with the corner velocity singularity like leaky lid. Through the test, the present element performs very well without unstable oscillation of pressure distribution.

The importance of corner sharpness in the BARC test case: A numerical study

  • The BARC flow is studied via Direct Numerical Simulation at a relatively low turbulent Reynolds number, with focus on the geometrical representation of the leading-edge (LE) corners. The study contributes to further our understanding of the discrepancies between existing numerical and experimental BARC data. In a first part, rounded LE corners with small curvature radii are considered. Results show that a small amount of rounding does not lead to abrupt changes of the mean fields, but that the effects increase with the curvature radius. The shear layer separates from the rounded LE at a lower angle, which reduces the size of the main recirculating region over the cylinder side. In contrast, the longitudinal size of the recirculating region behind the trailing edge (TE) increases, as the TE shear layer is accelerated. The effect of the curvature radii on the turbulent kinetic energy and on its production, dissipation and transport are addressed. The present results should be contrasted with the recent work of Rocchio et al. (2020), who found via implicit Large-Eddy Simulations at larger Reynolds numbers that even a small curvature radius leads to significant changes of the mean flow. In a second part, the LE corners are fully sharp and the exact analytical solution of the Stokes problem in the neighbourhood of the corners is used to locally restore the solution accuracy degraded by the singularity. Changes in the mean flow reveal that the analytical correction leads to streamlines that better follow the corners. The flow separates from the LE with a lower angle, resulting in a slightly smaller recirculating region. The corner-correction approach is valuable in general, and is expected to help developing high-quality numerical simulations at the high Reynolds numbers typical of the experiments with reasonable meshing requirements.

복합재료-탄소강 접착제 결합 조인트의 하중지지 능력 예측을 위한 이종 재료 접합 계면의 파괴 역학적 분석 (Fracture Mechanical Characterization of Bi-material Interface for the Prediction of Load Bearing Capacity of Composite-Steel Bonded Joints)

  • 구조물 설계에 복합재료-금속 접착제 결합 조인트의 개발 및 사용을 제한하는 가장 큰 요인은 접착 조인트의 하중지지 능력 예측을 위한 접착 계면의 강도 평가 방법의 부재이다. 본 연구에서는 복합재료-탄소강의 접착 강도를 계면 모서리에서의 응력강도계수와 파괴 인성 값으로 평가하였다. 구체적으로 동시 경화 성형법으로 제작된 복합재료-탄소강 양면 겹치기 접착조인트의 하중지지 능력을 파괴 역학적 분석 방법을 통하여 결정하였다. 이종재료 계면 모서리 첨단의 응력 특이성과 그 지수를 제시하고 최종적으로 응력강도계수와 실험을 통한 계면의 파괴인성 값을 획득하였다. 서로 다른 접합 길이를 갖는 조인트의 하중지지 능력 비교를 통하여 양면 겹치기 접착 조인트의 파괴 인성치와 혼합 모드에서의 균열 진전 기준을 $K_1-K_{11}$ 평면 내에 도시하였다.

모서리특이성이 존재하는 유체유동의 특이유한요소를 이용한 수치해석적 연구 (A numerical analysis of driven cavity flow using singular finite element method)

  • A numerical study of fluid flow in driven cavity was carried out using singular finite element method. The driven cavity problem is known to have infinite velocity gradients as well as dual velocity conditions at the singular points. To overcome such difficulties, a finite element method with singular shape functions was used and a special technique was employed to allow multiple values of velocities at the singular points. Application of singular elements in the driven cavity problem has a significant influence on the stability of solution. It was found the singular elements gave a stable solution, especially, for the pressure distribution of the entire flow field by keeping up a large pressure at the singular points. In the existing solutions of driven cavity problem, most efforts were focused on the study of streamlines and vorticities, and pressure were seldom mentioned. In this study, however, more attention was given to the pressure distribution. Computations showed that pressure decreased very rapidly as the distance from the singular point increased. Also, the pressure distribution along the vertical walls showed a smoother transition with singular elements compared to those of conventional method. At the singular point toward the flow direction showed more pressure increase compared with the other side as Reynolds number increased.

  • 계단 보행 시 로봇의 최적 궤도 계산은 유전자 알고리즘과 계산 토크 컨트롤러를 사용하여 수행되었다. 첫째, 생식, 교배, 돌연변이로 이루어진 실시간 유전 알고리즘 (RCGA)을 사용하여 총 에너지 효율이 최소화되었다. 보폭의 시작과 끝, 그리고 조인트, 각도, 각속도 위치 어셈블리 관련 재현성 조건은 선형 제약이다. 다음은 고르지 못한 제약은 코너 스윙 다리와 계단의 외부와의 충돌을 막기 위한 조건, 운동 학적 특이성을 막기 위한 무릎 관절의 조건 및 진행 방향의 안전은 보장되지 않음 이란 조건을 따른다. 마지막으로, 각 관절의 각도 궤도는 염색체를 근사 계수를 가지는 4차 다항식에 의해 정의된다. 이것은 보통 도보를 의미한다. 이 연구에서는 최적의 궤도의 에너지 효율을 7개의 링크로 구성된 7자유도의 2족 로봇을 통한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 분석했다.
