Characterization of Amino Acid Contents in Grain of Core Collections of Korean Native Rice (벼 재래종 핵심 유전자원의 현미 아미노산 함량 평가)

  • Amino acid composition in grain of Korean native rice core collections was evaluated to identify the useful genotypes for quality enhancing rice breeding and value-added food development. Large variations were found in the contents of 16 amino acids among 388 genotypes tested with 14.9% of the minimum coefficient of variation (CV), and the contents of methionine and histidine showed the highest CV and the second high, respectively. The average values of total amino acid, total essential amino acid, lysine and threonine contents of Korean native rice collections were almost similar with those of cultivating japonica rice, Saechucheong. Among 388 native core collections Baekkokna, Daesona and Saducho were identified as high amino acid germplasm in total amino acid, total essential amino acid, lysine and threonine contents. And Seoksanjo and Sodujo were identified as low amino acid collections. Rice collections showing purple apiculus color tended to distribute in lower serine, proline, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, phenylalanine, arginine, and total amino acid contents compared with those of yellowish apiculus color collections. The glutinous rice collections showed the tendency of higher contents of serine, glutamic acid, alanine, valine and leucine compared with those of non-glutinous collections.

Cereal Resources in National BioResource Project of Japan

  • The National BioResource Project of Japan is a governmental project to promote domestic/international research activities using biological resources. The project has 27 biological resources including three cereal resources. The core center and sub-center which historically collected the cereal resources were selected for each cereal program. These resources are categorized into several different types in the project; germplasm, genetic stocks, genome resources and database information. Contents of rice resources are wild species, local varieties in East and Southwest Asia & wild relatives, MNU-induced chemical mutant lines, marker tester lines, chromosome substitution lines and other experimental lines. Contents of wheat resources are wild strains, cultivated strains, experimental lines, rye wild and cultivated strains; EST clones and full-length cDNA clones. Contents of barley resources are cultivar and experimental lines, core collection, EST/cDNA clones, BAC clones, their filters and superpool DNA. Each resource is accessible from the online database to see the contents and information about the resources. Links to the genome information and genomic tools are also important function of each database. The major contents and some examples are presented here.

A Case Study on Core Value Education in Large Corporations in Korea (국내 대기업의 핵심가치 교육 사례연구)

  • These days, corporations which are eager to improve employees' performance and focus on consistent management highlight core values and core value education. The purpose of this research is to present a case study on the core value education administered by large corporations, to analyze and compare them, and finally present implications for the core value education. For this purpose, 5 large corporations in Korea have been selected. The data was collected from secondary sources and through interviews with the present and former educators in charge of core value education of those corporations. This study found that 5 large corporations commonly considered their core value as a main source of competitiveness and focused on the systematic core value education. But at the same time, each of them chose its own way to educate employees. Their strategies, management methods, and connection to the personnel policy differed in details. 5 large corporations were shown that they reached the level of understanding and empathy, but only 2 large corporations were interviewed as to reach the level of practice. To make core value internalized in the employees' thoughts and acts, it is required to strengthen alliance between core values and work which encourages worker's real practice in their daily lives, to have a diverse curriculum according to the work categories and regions, and to emphasize the connection with other policies especially evaluation policy.

  • The purpose of this study was to perform research on the development of core course textbooks in the LIS field. The process of textbook development proposed in this study can also be a useful reference for developing the textbooks for other, non-core courses. The textbook development procedure used was as follows; 1) investigating and analyzing the main textbooks of LIS core courses domestically and abroad, 2) deriving optimal curriculum content from job analysis results, 3) gathering comment and feedback from professors teaching core courses, 4) proposing a final, three-tiered table of contents for an optimal textbook. The textbook table of contents proposed as a result of this research relates to the core subjects of: Introduction to Library and Information Science, Information Services, Library Management, Information Organization, Information Retrieval, and Library Fieldwork. We suggested chapter and section levels for all subjects, and list all of the details that should be dealt with in each section; instructors are then able to select from these options at their discretion.

Microstructural observation of artificial aggregates at various sintering atmospheres (소성 분위기에 따른 인공골재의 미세구조 관찰)

  • The aggregates made of clay, carbon and $Fe_2O_3$ were prepared to investigate the mechanism of black core formation and the property differences at various sintering atmospheres. The aggregates were sintered at oxidized, neutralized and reduced atmospheres. The specific gravity, absorption rate, percent of black core area were measured at various compositions and sintering atmospheres. The aggregates sintered at oxidized atmosphere showed clear border between shell and black core area. Hence, the aggregates sintered at reduced and neutralized atmospheres showed only black core area in the cross-section of the aggregates. The specific gravity of the aggregates sintered at reduced atmosphere increased with increasing carbon contents and that was the lowest of all aggregates sintered at various atmospheres. Adsorption rate increased with increasing carbon contents at all atmospheres.

The Influences between New Nurses' Nursing Performance, Emotional Intelligence, Self-resiliency and Core Self-evaluation (신입간호사의 정서지능, 자아탄력성, 핵심자기평가가 간호업무수행에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is a descriptive research of investigating the correlation between new nurses' nursing performance, emotional intelligence, self-resiliency and core self-evaluation. The subjects were 114 new nurses working for less than 12 months at two different hospitals with over 800 beds located in Gyeonggi-do. Between July and November, this study collected the data measured by using a structured questionnaire survey for nursing performance, emotional intelligence, self-resiliency and core self-evaluation. As a result, it was found that there was a difference in the degree of nursing performance according to new nurses' education level, job satisfaction, and working position task satisfaction, and that the higher the emotional intelligence, self-resiliency and core self-evaluation were, the better the nursing performance was. As for emotional intelligence, education level, core self-evaluation and job satisfaction, it was found that they were variables to well predict the degree of nursing performance, and explained 33% of variance in nursing performance. Accordingly, it is necessary to provide actual field-adaptive training education including emotional intelligence and core self-evaluation other than nursing performance from new nurses' orientation in consideration of education degree and job satisfaction.

A Study on the Learning Framework and Curriculum of Core Competency-Based Learning in English Education Major (영어교육전공의 핵심역량중심 학습 프레임워크와 교육과정 개발에 대한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to present the learning framework and curriculum direction of the English education major and to suggest ways to enhance the English education-related curriculum and core competency more effectively. For these purposes, the needs of students in the English education department were identified and analyzed. After that, based on these results, Education 2030 Project and the 2015 revised English curriculum, the core competency-oriented education method of the English education department was proposed. The survey results are as follows: Many students in the Department of English Education were interested in their competencies, but did not know what they needed and how to actually strengthen them. They wanted to strengthen their competency with a core competency-oriented major curriculum. The results of this study, reflecting the national needs and core competencies of universities, suggested the direction for the development of the curriculum of the Department of English Education. In addition, the curriculum, teaching methods, and evaluation methods were organically linked to suggest ways to cultivate the required competencies more effectively.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the sheet properties of Indian mallow Hanji, made by different pulping methods, such as alkali and sulfomethylated pulpings, and different stock compositions, various mixing ratios of bast fiber and woody core fibers. Indian mallow hanjis made from the sulfomethylated pulps had higher brightness and sheet strength than the alkali pulps. It was found that the brightness of sulfomethylated pulp was enough high without an extra-bleaching. In the mechanical properties of Indian mallow hanjis mixed with bast fiber and woody core stalk pulps, the sheet strength were decreased as wood core pulps contents were increased. The sheet formation were increased as the increase of woody core pulps contents, while the sheet strength decreased. Although the sulfomethylated pulping resulted in higher pulp yield, no morphological differences of fiber surfaces were shown as compared to the different pulping methods.

An Analysis of Content-related Issues of Curriculum for the Improvement of Contents in Science Education (과학과 교육 내용 개선을 위한 교육과정 내용 관련 쟁점 분석)

  • The core of subject matter education is determined by the choice of subject matter taught to students and by the organization of content according to educational objectives. The purpose of this research is to suggest ways to improve the present content of science education so as to prepare students and schools for a radically different future. We deduced the main issues the solution of which could lead to significant improvements in the contents of science education by analyzing previous studies and investigating the changes in content that were effected during curriculum revisions in the past. The main issues thus revealed through this study are as follows: the essence of the contents of subject matters in science education, the social and cultural background of change in the science curriculum, the rational steps on the way to choosing contents as part of the science curriculum, the processes of choosing the main contents of each subject, the international comparative study of contents, the updating of contents for the benefit of future society, and the reorganization of subject contents. In order to find a concrete improvement on the issues deduced, we organized an expert group. Then, we proceeded to collect and analyze the experts' opinions. A survey was administered to 19 science education experts working with universities and colleges of education. We examined their degree of agreement on the issues and problems, and on the steps that may be taken to us the improvements on these issues. we suggested that: collecting opinion and reaching an agreement on the essence of the contents of the subject matters in science education, the necessity to choose core contents within the scientific domain, developing a structure map in order to integrate and connect various subject domains, presenting explicitly the objective of inquiry by grades, moving toward integrating science contents, diversifying the construction of science textbooks.

The Development of a Theoretical Model of Integrated Medical Humanity Curriculum Using Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics Model (융합인재교육 이론모형 틀에 기반을 둔 통합의료인문학 교육과정 이론모형의 제안)

  • The purpose of this study was to propose a theoretical model for an integrated medical humanities curriculum based on a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education framework and to provide a guideline for curriculum integration. Three dimensions of integrated curriculum development are competencies, core contents, and elements of integration. Competencies imply the purpose of the medical humanities of a medical school and the exit outcomes of the curriculum. Core contents imply the goals and objectives of the curriculum. We compared the goals and themes of the medical humanities with core attributes of professionalism. Four elements of integration were proposed: units (cases, problem activities, core contents, disciplines/subjects), types (multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary), contexts of integration (life cycle of patients, scope of society), and stages of student development (from student to doctor). It is expected that this theoretical model for an integrated medical humanities curriculum can be used as a guideline for curriculum development and an evaluation criterion for instructional designers and subject matter experts.
