  • This study is concerned about the design and development of three dimensional bending machine. The purpose of this study is design and development of three-dimensional bending machine by analysis of bending process and structural analysis simulation. The analysis is carried out by FEM simulation using DEFORM and CATIA V5 software. Based on this study, the three dimensional bending machine was developed. In order to evaluate a performance and reliability of the developed three dimensional bending machine, we used laser interferometer and three axial measuring system.

Evaporating heat transfer characteristics of R-22 in small diameter tubes (세관 내 R-22 의 증발 전열 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Evaporating heat transfer characteristics of R-22 were measured inside smooth horizontal copper tubes with inner diameters of 3.36 mm and 5.35 mm respectively. The experiments were conducted in the closed loop which was driven by a magnetic gear pump. Experiments were performed for the following range of variables ; mass velocity of refrigerants (200 to 400 $kg/m^2$ .s) saturation temperature ($0^{\circ}C, \; 5^{\circC$}) and quality (0 to 1.0) The main results obtained are as follows : Evaporating heat transfer coefficients in the small diameter tubes (ID<7 mm) were observed to be strongly affected by a variety of diameters and to differ from those in the large diameter tubes. The heat transfer coefficients of the small diameter tubes are higher than those of the large diameter tubes. Comparing the heat transfer coefficients between experimental results and some well-known previous predictions (Shah's correlation Gungor-Winterton's and Kandlikar's correlation) it was very difficult to apply those to small diameter tubes.

  • A system of anodic process of aluminum thin film has implemented for nanofabrication. The manufactured equipment consists of three main parts: chiller, reaction bath and power supply. The chiller module consists of refrigeration compressor, copper tube and coolant with a thermostat. The reaction bath has kept in same temperature as a thermodynamic canonical ensemble system during the anodic reaction process. The magnetic bar has stirred oxalic acid in bath for uniform reaction. The DC power supply has applied into two electrodes, aluminum for anode and platinum for cathode in the oxalic acid. The anodization process results in the formation of nanoporous thin films.

Development of a Dipstick Gage Type Small Engine oil Deterioration Detection Sensor (딥스틱게이지형 소형 엔진열화감지센서 개발)

  • A small engine-oil-deterioration detection sensor was developed and installed at the tip of a dipstick gage. The sensor part was manufactured using printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing technology. A set of sensor covers was installed in order to protect the sensor and realize good signal stability. The small engine-oil-deterioration detection sensor system comprised a dual sensor having etched copper electrodes coated with gold and ceramic, a flexible PCB (FPCB) acting as electric wire, and a dummy PCB with only a lock connector. The sensor can easily be installed by insertion through the guide tube of a dipstick gage. Thus, a driver can easily handle it without further installation equipment. The sensor can determine the level of deterioration in the engine oil by estimating the corresponding dielectric constant of the engine oil.

  • This paper describes the machinability of the sintered carbide and tool-die steel(STD-11) by electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes which have multi-holes. Various types of electrode which have different diameters and materials are used with the application of continuous direct current and axial electrode feed. Inner part of electrodes are inserted with smaller tubes or Y-channel or bar. In ED-Drilling, the dielectric flushed down the interior of the rotating tube electrode, in order to remove machining debris from the hole. As result of experiments, the bigger the diameter of the electrode is, the lower the material removal rate is. Machinability of copper electrode is higher than that of brass. In machining of sintered carbide, to use oil is better than distilled water as dielectric.

  • This study is experimented to observe an influence of experimental conditions on production characteristics of slurry ice by putting ball into test section to disturb ice adhesion. And at this experiment it used ethylene glycol-water solution and the concentration is 20wt%. The experimental apparatus was constructed of ethylene glycol-water solution and slurry ice storage tank. brine tank, pumps for ethylene glycol-water solution and brine circulating, a mass flow-meter data logger for fluid temperature measuring and a vertical circular tube with two copper tubes as test section. The experiments were carried out under various conditions, with mean velocity of fluid at the entry ranging from 0.07 to 0.13m/s and ball diameter is 10mm, 15mm. Also ball filling rate is 33%, 50%.

A Study on the Thermal Performance of a Z-shaped Heat Pipe (Z자 형상을 갖는 히트파이프에 대한 열성능 연구)

  • The necessity of a Z-shape heat pipe may occur in a special application such as a cooling module for an electronic equipment having a limited accessible space. Either of the two end part works as evaporator or condenser and the length of the middle part is 200mm. The heat pipe was made of 3/8 inch copper tube having 60 spiral groove with screw angle of 10 degrees. Water and acetone were used as working fluids. The fill charge ratio of the working fluid was varied for different values of thermal loads. The thermal resistance was calculated based on the temperature measurements along the heat pipe axis. The maximum thermal loads were 80W for water and 100W for acetone heat pipe. The optimum fill charge ratio was identified through a series of experiments.

ED-Drilling of $MoSi_2$-matrix Composites ($MoSi_2$ 기지 복합재의 ED-Drilling)

  • This paper describes the machining characteristics of the MoSi$_2$-based composites by electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. MoSi$_2$-based composites has been developed in new materials for jet engine of supersonic-speed airplanes and gas turbine for high- temperature generator. By combining a nonconducting ceramics with more conducting ceramic it was possible to raise the electrical conductivity. In drilling by EDM, the dielectric flushed down the interior of the rotating tube electrode, in order to facilitate the removal of machining debris from the hole. Various metal-coated tubular electrodes of which core are copper and brass are used to know the effect of coating material on machinability of ED drilling.

  • This study was performed to find the best bonding conditions by comparing mechanical properties in solar collector. The solar collector that consists of copper plate and tube was successfully bonding by ultrasonic seam welding. In this experiment, we varied the values of welding pressure and welding amplitude and fixed the values of speed and frequency. Consequently, it was find that the welding pressure had higher effort on bonding strength than the welding amplitude.
