This study was investigated the effect of carbon on the micro-structure and hardness of ductile cast iron roll with internal curing capacity. Spheroidal graphite existed at roll body with rapid cooling, but granular graphite existed at roll neck with slow cooling. The volume fraction of graphite increased at roll body with rapid cooling, That of roll neck with slow cooling decreased, but graphite size increased. The volume fraction of cementite decreased, but volume fraction increased. The cementite size was larger at roll neck than roll body. The hardness was decreased at roll body and roll neck due to volume fraction of cementite. The hardness of roll body was higher than roll neck.

Many efforts have focused on the improvement of power density and efficiency by downsizing the motor and inverter. Recently, Toyota, Honda, and GM realized that the compact-sized motor uses the hairpin structure with increased space factor. Reducing the maximum torque from high-speed technique also makes it possible to design the high-power density model. Toyota and Honda used the newly developed power semiconductor IGBT to decrease conduction loss for high-efficiency inverter. In particular, Toyota used the boost converter to increase the DC link voltage for high efficiency in low-torque high-speed region. Toyota and GM also used the double-sided cooling structure for miniaturization of inverter for high-power density.

This study was carried out to improve the design of an intercooler for a small marine diesel engine. Diesel engines for small marine ships have mainly been developed by changing the structure of the vehicle engine. Sea water was most commonly used in the intercooler of small marine diesel engines to cool the hot air compressed by the turbocharger. In this study, the intercooler is modeled and simulated using STAR-CCM+ in order to find optimal data for the design of an intercooler. In the results, the temperature differences between the data from a numerical analysis and experimental data were $0.38^{\circ}C$ in the hot air outlet and $3.63^{\circ}C$ in the cooling water outlet. Therefore, it was confirmed that both analysis and experimental results need to be considered when designing an intercooler. A closer degree of similarity in the two datasets can improve the confidence in the design of these intercoolers.

This study aims to develop an efficient mold structure for the injection molding of a subminiature lens, using shell-type runners instead of traditional cylindrical runners. While the shell runner has the advantage of shorter cooling time due to its thinner geometry, this smaller thickness causes an increase in injection pressure. In this study, the design of the shell runner was modified to contain multiple holes for the purpose of reducing injection pressure. Numerical analyses were performed for shell runners of various hole-shapes, and the resulting filling and cooling characteristics were discussed; the rhombic hole showed the best result for both filling and cooling characteristics. Subsequently, injection molding experiments were performed using an injection mold fabricated based on the rhombic design. The lens parts were successfully molded with highly-reduced cycle time and without degradation of part quality.

Design and fabrication of Technology Demonstration Model(TDM) of 75 tonf regenerative cooling thrust chamber were described. It has design chamber pressure of 60 bar, propellant mass flow rate of 243.6 kg/s, and nozzle expansion ratio of 12. It has a single welded structure of the mixing head and the chamber. Design and fabrication technologies established through this TDM can be used to development of flight model.

Determining of the shape in the process of design for natural draught cooling tower is very important, because the shape of hyperbolic shell is respond sensitively to dynamic behavior of the whole cooling tower against wind load. In engineering practice, the geometric parameters have been determining based on the natural frequency. This study analyses influence of the tower shell geometric parameters on the structural behavior. For three representative models were selected, they were analyzed based on evaluation of damage by means of nonlinear FE-method. As a result, a hyperbolic rotational shell with the small radius overall was the lowest damage index induced by sufficient capacity of the stress redistribution and thus a wind-insensitive structure.

An important component of a cooling tower is an axial fan, and there happens distortion in its shape which brings significant loss of efficiency. In this paper, a surface profile measuring system for large size axial fan of cooling towers is developed. A laser sensor is used as a measuring device and aluminum profiles and stepping motors are engaged into the system as frame structure and driving devices respectively. The measuring data are compared to the design data to compute the distortion of the axial fans. Two types of errors, axial and twist errors, are used to represent the precision of axial fan distortion. Genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem during computing the precision. Results are displayed three dimensionally in a solid-modeler as well as 2-D drawings to help users find it with ease.

Because of the particularity and complexity of direct air-cooling structures (ACS), wind parameters given in the general load codes are not suitable for the wind-resistant design. In order to investigate the wind loads of ACS, two 1/150 scaled three-span models were designed and fabricated, corresponding to a rigid model and an aero-elastic model, and wind tunnel tests were then carried out. The model used for testing the wind pressure distribution of the ACS was defined as the rigid model in this paper, and the stiffness of which was higher than that of the aero-elastic model. By testing the rigid model, the wind pressure distribution of the ACS model was studied, the shape coefficients of "A" shaped frame and windbreak walls, and the gust factor of the windbreak walls were determined. Through testing the aero-elastic model, the wind-induced dynamic responses of the ACS model was studied, and the wind vibration coefficients of ACS were determined based on the experimental displacement responses. The factors including wind direction angle and rotation of fan were taken into account in this test. The results indicated that the influence of running fans could be ignored in the structural design of ACS, and the wind direction angle had a certain effect on the parameters. Moreover, the shielding effect of windbreak walls induced that wind loads of the "A" shaped frame were all suction. Subsequently, based on the design formula of wind loads in accordance with the Chinese load code, the corresponding parameters were presented as a reference for wind-resistant design and wind load calculation of air-cooling structures.
The role of current lead in high-temperature superconducting synchronous machine (HTSSM) is to function as a power supply by connecting the power supply unit at room temperature with the HTS field coils at cryogenic temperature. Such physical and electrical connection causes conduction and Joule-heating losses, which are major thermal losses of HTSSM rotors. To ensure definite stability and economic feasibility of HTS field coils, quickly and smoothly cooling down the current lead is a key design technology. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a novel concept of a cooling anchor to enhance the cooling performance of a metal current lead. The technical concept of this technology is the simultaneously chilling and supporting the current lead. First, the structure of the current lead and cooling anchor were conceptually designed for field coils for a 1.5 MW-class HTSSM. Then, the effect of this installation on the thermal characteristics of HTS coils was investigated by 3D finite element analysis.

Cooling type of traction motor for EMU in domestic is mostly an open type. Its system is a cooling air entered through air inlet cool down a traction motor and an hot air by traction motor get out air outlet. It is easy to cool it down but hard to maintain it. To improve an ability of maintenance, a total enclosed type traction motor is already developed and used in abroad, not an opne type. So we developed a total enclosed type traction motor which will be used in domestic and abroad EMU. We tried to reduce a weight and a size compared with the abroad one. In contrast with open type traction motors which cool off inside of motors, total enclosed motors cool down by cooling exterior frame of motors. In this case, cooling fins or air fan blowing to the exterior of motors are applied. The total enclosed type traction motor developed by us have two housing to block the foreign substance into inner of a motor and have two cooling fan to easy to reduce a heat happened at a coil. In this paper, design of a cooling structure of the total enclosed traction motor developed twice and performance verification through test will be discussed.
