  • The cooling water circulation plates had been used to drop the temperature of refractory outside shell of common cooling system by using cooling plate or stave type. When they are attacked by surrounding gas, they are corroded and the water flows in the refractory due to leakage of water. So, the life of refractory material is shortened and changed due to the worse conditions of cooling system. The automatic sensing device for water leakage of cooling plate is developed to check the position of trouble by using the microprocessor system when cooling water leak and gas are flowed into the cooling plate through the leakage position. The flowed gas is detected in the micro-process system which delivers the detected position of cooling plate or stave to main control room through the wireless-radio relay station. This system can be possible to detect the position of cooling plate or stave against the water leakage part immediately and then deliver the signal to main control room by using the microprocessor system and wireless-radio relay station. This system will be developed in changing the working condition from manual system to unmanned auto alarm system.

  • The cooling characteristics of a hot steel plate by a laminar impinging water bar were investigated experimentally. The dynamic parameters investigated were nozzle height L between nozzle and the hot plate, flow rate Q, and initial cooling temperature. Because the boiling phenomena on a hot steel plate are unsteady and change discontinuously, it is difficult to analyze the cooling characteristics directly. In this study the cooling efficiency was estimated by using the temperature decay rates and expansion speed of the water cooling zone. Temperature in the water cooling zone decreased rapidly and the radius of the water cooling zone expanded nearly in proportion to square root of the cooling time. With increasing initial temperature of a hot steel plate, the cooling efficiency became descendent. The cooling curve in the case of L/D = 30 showed the largest temperature decay rate and excellent cooling performance.

  • The battery cells in lithium-ion battery pack assembled with high-capacity and high-power pouch cells, are commonly cooled with thin aluminum cooling plates in contact with the cells. For HEV/EV lithium-ion battery systems assembled with high-capacity, high-power pouch cells, the cells are commonly cooled with thin aluminum cooling plates in contact with the cells. Thin aluminum cooling plates are cooled by cold plate with coolant flow paths. In this study, the effect of the battery cooling system design including aluminum cooling plate thickness and various position of cold plate on the cooling performance are investigated by using finite element methods (FEM). Optimal cooling plate and cold plate design are proposed for improving the uniformity in temperature distributions as well as lowering average temperature for the cells with large capacities based on the simulation results.

  • In order to analyse the thermal performance of battery systems in electric vehicles complex simulation models with high computational cost are necessary. Using reduced order methods, real-time applicable model can be developed and used for on-board monitoring. In this work a data driven model of the cooling plate as part of the battery system is built and derived from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. The aim of this paper is to create a meta model of the cooling plate that estimates the temperature at the boundary for different heat flow rates, mass flows and inlet temperatures of the cooling fluid. In order to do so, the cooling plate is simulated in a CFD software (ANSYS Fluent ®). A data driven model is built using the design of experiment (DOE) and various approximation methods in Optimus ®. The model can later be combined with a reduced model of the thermal battery system. The assumption and simplification introduced in this paper enable an accurate representation of the cooling plate with a real-time applicable model.

  • This paper presents the temperature control in aluminum plate with Peltier module. From the experimental work, Peltier module is used to control the temperature of small aluminum plate for both heating and cooling with the control of current and fan ON/OFF. And current control of Peltier module was accomplished by PWM method. As a result of experiments, it is proper that operate cooling fan only while cooling duration and there exist a proper cooling current to drop temperature rapidly. It takes about 125sec to control temperature of aluminium plate between $30^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ and about 70sec between $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, in ambient temperature $28^{\circ}C{\sim}29^{\circ}C$ while cooling fan is operated only cooling duration. With the cooling current, temperature control of aluminum plate was accomplished more rapidly in comparison without cooling current. Future aim is to realize more rapid temperature control and develop SMHA(special metal hydride actuator) by using Peltier module as a heating and cooling source.

  • The purpose of this experiment is to study the radiant cooling effects by a plate directly viewing the nighttime sky. The measurements are performed at a rooftop of the Engineering building at the Dongguk University in Seoul during the month of August in 2004. The radiant cooling effects are compared using three different types of plate surfaces such as galvanized Iron, black painted, and aluminum film coated galvanized iron plate. Among these plates, the black painted surface show the lowest temperature that is lower than its ambient temperature. The maximum radiant cooling temperature difference, that is ambient temperature minus plate temperature, observed is about 5K..

  • The increase of system weight due to installation of cooling devices adds electrical and mechanical loads of humanoid robot, and in return, results in much heat. Therefore, the weight of cooling system is a critical issue for robot cooling. In this study, we propose non-metallic cold plates to deal with such problems. We compare thermal performances between one metallic cold plate and five different types of non-metallic cold plates. A metallic cold plate is totally made of copper. Five non-metallic PC(polycarbonate) cold plates, which are designed to reduce the overall weight of robot cooling system, are composed of a polycarbonate cover with different types of base plate. The overall heat transfer coefficients per unit mass and thermal resistances are obtained for the cold plates. The metallic cold plate shows the best thermal performance. It is interesting to note that the PC cold plate with an aluminum base plate with 18 channels shows the best overall heat transfer coefficient per unit mass. Most polycarbonate cold plates display fairly comparable thermal performance with more reduced system weight compared to the metallic cold plate.

  • For the stabilization of laser output power and wavelength of the high power fiber laser, the cooling plate must be properly taken into account. In this study, three analyzing methods which are heat transfer theory, CFD and experiment are used to analyze cooling plate performance by measuring pump Laser Diode(LD) temperature. Under limited operating conditions of a cooling plate, the internal flow of cooling plate is transitional flow so that the internal flow is assumed to be laminar and turbulence flow and conducted theoretical calculation. Through CFD, temperature of pump LD and characteristics of the internal flow were analyzed. By the experiment, temperature of pump LD was measured in real conditions and the performance of the cooling plate was verified. The results of this study indicate that three analyzing methods are practically useful to design the cooling plate for the high power fiber laser or similar things.

  • The present study deals with the results of a thermo-fluid analysis applied to the cooling plate of the water cooling system developed for IGBT stacks, which was designed to keep the power semi-conductors from over heating problems. The cooling plate is to absorb a maximum quantity of 10kW from 4 IGBTs which are to be placed on both sides of the cooling plate, 2 IGBTs of them on each surface. For the analysis, Adina of CFD Program was used and an analysis was conducted to obtain the knowledges on heat and mass flow at both the plate and fluid flow inside. For the simulation, the operational conditions of a temperature difference of $15^{\circ}C$ for the working fluid and a uniform heat flux of about 92000 $W/m^2$ on the surface in contact with an IGBTs.
