분사냉각모듈 내에 부착된 히트싱크에 따른 고출력 LED의 냉각성능에 관한 연구 (Cooling Performance Study of a Impinging Water Jet System with Heat Sink for High Power LEDs)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate cooling performance of high power LEDs from 100 to 200 W class by using a jet impingement cooling module. The numerical analysis of forced convection cooling inside cooling module is carried out using a multi-purpose CFD software, FLUENT 6.3. In the experiments, the LED cooling system consists of jet impingement module, heat exchanger, water reservoir, and pump. In the present study, the cooling performance of jet impingement cooling module is investigated to determine the effect of the heat sink types on the impinging surface, the space and length of fins. Numerical and experimental studies show the reasonable agreement of LED metal PCB temperature between those results and give the optimized design parameters such as the space of fin and the length of fin. Also, the pin fin type of heat sink is found to be more efficient than the plate type heat sink in jet impingement cooling.

열전모듈을 이용한 냉방기의 최적 운전조건에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Optimal Operation Condition of an Air-Cooler using Thermoelectric Modules)

  • This article presents the optimal operation of an air conditioner using thermoelectric modules. A prototype of air conditioner using four thermoelectric modules has been designed and built. The system performance with evaporative cooling for hot side of the module are studied in detail for several operating parameters, such as input power to the thermoelectric module, fans and pump. It is found that the optimal input voltage to the thermoelectric module and pump is selected for the best system performance based on the cooling capacity and the COP at a given operating condition. It is also found that both the cooling capacity and COP of a system is increased with an increase in the input power to fans. The cooling performance could be improved when the ambient temperature is increased and the relative humidity is decreased since the evaporative cooling at the hot side has been increased.

태양광 시스템의 냉각장치 개발 (Development of Solar Concentrator Cooling System)

  • 태양광 모듈 효율의 증가를 위해 렌즈나 반사판 등을 이용한 집광 시스템 개발이 활발하게 진행되고 있으며, 집광장치는 일반적으로 렌즈를 사용하거나 고집속비의 광학장치를 이용하여 태양광 추적형으로 설계하여 고집속화를 추구하고 있다. 그러나 집속비에 비례하여 열로 소산되는 에너지 밀도가 증가하므로, 고집속에 따른 태양전지 온도상승에 의한 태양전지 효율 저하를 방지하기 위해 집광장치의 냉각에 유의해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 여러 가지 제약 조건을 피하여, 저가격의 반사형 광학장치를 이용한 경제적인 저집광형 태양광 모듈 시스템을 연구 개발하였다. 일반모듈에 저집광장치를 사용하여 태양광 모듈의 발전효율을 증대 시키면서 집광으로 인해 발생하는 열을 냉각장치를 통해 방출하였다. 제안된 저집광형 냉각장치(MCS, Micro Cooling System)의 특징은 모세관력에 의한 자연 순환 방식으로서 외부 동력원이 불필요하며, 유체 상변환시의 잠열을 이용함으로써 고성능 냉각 구현이 가능하다. 117W 태양광 모듈에 반사판을 설치하고 냉각장치가 있는 모듈과 냉각장치가 없는 모듈을 비교 하였다. 냉각장치를 설치한 모듈에서의 발전량이 28% 증가하였다.

보행자 보호용 프론트 엔드 모듈(FEM)의 냉각성능에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Cooling Performance of Front End Module for Pedestrian Protection)

  • Novel Front End Module(FEM) with improved pedestrian protection is very important to reduce the severity of pedestrian injury. The FEM needs to have enough space from hood to absorb the energy from any pedestrian collision. In this study, the cooling performance of the FEM to cool the engine was investigated under 25% height reduction. The results indicated that the cooling performance analysis was about 86% level compared to that of the conventional FEM. Also, good qualitative agreement between CFD predictions and experimental measurements was found. This FEM needs the cooling performance enhancement for changed air flow path at the frontal part of vehicle. Therefore, we showed an improved performance using air guide setup and shape modification under the high load condition.

  • A small-scale thermoelectric cooling system was built in an effort to enhance the performance of the refrigeration system by utilizing the water-cooled jacket which was attached on the hot side of the thermoelectric module. Considered design parameters for the water-cooled jacket included the geometry of the flow passage inside the jacket and the flow rate of cooling water. The higher flow rate of cooling water in the jacket resulted in a better performance of the refrigeration system. The introduction of geometrical complexity of the cooling water flow passage to the cooling jacket also showed significant improvement on the performance of the thermoelectric refrigeration system such as the cooling capacity and the COP of the refrigeration system.

Transient Characteristics of a Two-Phase Thermosyphon Loop for Multichip Module

  • A new thermosyphon cooling module (TSCM) has designed, fabricated and tested to cool the multi-chip module consists of a cold plate and an integrated condenser. With an allowable temperature rise of $56^{\circ}C$ on the surface of the heater, the cooling module TSCM can handle a heat flux of about 2.7 $W/cm^2$ using R11 as working fluid. The transient characteristics of the cooling module have been proved to be excellent: that is, when a heat load is applied inside of the system, steady state can be achieved within 10 to 15 minutes. It has been found that the length of the vapor channel between the cold plate and the condenser in addition to the ambient and the condenser temperatures affect the system performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the cooling performance of single and cascade refrigeration systems using thermoelectric modules. The system consists of a heat sink, fan, and thermoelectric module. The operating parameters considered in this study include power distribution between the first- and second-stage thermoelectric modules, air flow, and variable condensing unit. The cooling capacity increased with decreases in the temperature difference between hot and cold surfaces, but decreased with increases in the condensing temperature. The COP decreased with increasing electric power of the thermoelectric module because of the increased Joule heat. The cooling performance improvement using the thermoelectric module is represented by the freezer temperature.

  • This paper is proposed cooling system of BIPV(Building Integrated Photovoltaic) by micro-controller. The output power of PV generation system is not systematically tracked and influenced by various factors; solar irradiance, solar cell temperature. The temperature of solar module should be minimized to increase electrical output. Therefore, it is proposed that micro-controller cools to decrease temperature of solar module using thermoelement. The validity of this paper is proved by comparing solar module temperature of cooling system and un-cooling system.

  • The ESS(Energy Saving System) is designed to have functions of controlling. monitoring for cooling system. etc. ESS consists of the I/O module, CPU module and Display module I/O module detects various ESS data on local area and treats signals via I/O interface system. The interface system receives various status data and outputs control signals. ESS is tested with dummy signal to verify proposed functions and is shown good results. For future study ESS will be tested under real condition in the ship.

  • This paper presents a cooling system using thermoelectron for improving the output of BIPV module. The temperature characteristic in regard to improving the output of BIPV system has rarely teen studied up to now but some researchers only presented the method using a ventilator. The cooling system efficiency of BIPV module applied to a ventilator mainly depends on the weather such as wind, insolation etc. Because the cooling system of BIPV module using a ventilator is so sensitive, that is being set off by wind speed at all time but is unable to operate in the NOCT(Nominal Operating Cell Temperature) which is able to make the maximum output. The paper presents the cooling system using thermoelectron so as to solve such problems. The temperature control of thermoelectron can be controlled independently in the outside environment because that is performed by micro-controller. The temperature control of thermoelectron, also, can be operated around NOCT through algorithm of the temperature control. Therefore, outputs of the whole system increase and the efficiency rises. The paper demonstrates the validity of proposed method by comparing the data obtained through a experiment of the cooling method of BIPV using a ventilator and proposed thermoelectron.
