고온환경 작업을 위한 펠티어 소자 냉각복 개발 및 쾌적성 평가 (Development of Cooling Garment for Extremely Hot Environment Using a Peltier Device and its Comfort Properties)

  • This paper reports on a prototype cooling garment applying a cooling module. The cooling module was composed of a Peltier device, a cold sink, a heat sink and two fans. A constant box was used to evaluate the cooling effect of the module. Two cooling modules were attached on each side of the garment. The wear trial was conducted using 10 male subjects in an environmental chamber maintained at $30{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, $50{\pm}5%$RH. Subjective sensations of thermal, humidity, and comfort were surveyed. Statistical package SPSS12.0 was used for the t-test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that most effective cooling module decreased the temperature of the constant temperature box by $-4.9^{\circ}C$. The micro-temperature of the cooling garment with a Peltier device was lower than the control garment during the exercise. In particular, the chest skin temperature was $1.5^{\circ}C$ lower with the cooling garment than the control. The maximum temperature difference was $-2.57^{\circ}C$ on the sides of the $1^{st}$ layer. Subjective thermal sensation from wear trials of the Peltier device attached garment was lower than the control garment. Subjects felt more comfortable with the cooling garment in almost all the periods.

여름철 작업자들의 고체온증 예방을 위한 액체냉각복 개발 및 효과적인 냉각온도와 인체 냉각부위 탐색 (Developing Liquid Cooling Garments to Alleviate Heat Strain of Workers in Summer and Exploring Effective Cooling Temperature and Body Regions)

  • The purpose of the present study was to explore the most effective body region and cooling temperature to alleviate heat strain of workers in hot environments. We developed liquid cooling hood, vest, sleeves and socks and applied the water temperatures of 10, 15, 20, and 25℃ through the liquid cooling garments in a hot and humid environment (33℃ air temperature and 70% RH air humidity). A healthy young male participated in a total of 16 experimental trials (four cooling garments × four cooling temperatures) with the following protocol: 10-min rest, 40-min exercise on a treadmill and 10-min recovery. The results showed that rectal temperature, mean skin temperature, and ratings of perceived exertion during exercise; heart rate and diastolic blood pressure during recovery; and total sweat rate were lower for the vest condition than other garment conditions(p < .05). However, there was no differences in mean skin temperature among the four cooling garments when we compared the values converted by covering area(%BSA). When we classified the results by cooling temperature, there were no consistent differences in thermoregulatory and cardiovascular responses among the four temperatures, but 25℃ water temperature was evaluated as being the most ineffective cooling temperature in terms of subjective responses. In conclusion, the results indicated that wearing cooling vest with < 20℃ cooling temperature can alleviate heat strain of workers in hot and humid environments. If the peripheral body regions are cooled with liquid cooling garments, larger cooling area with lower cooling temperature than 10℃ would be effective to reduce heat strain of workers. Further studies with a vaild number of subjects are required.

상변화물질 농도변화에 따른 의복내 공기층의 열적 특성 (Thermal Characteristics of the Garment Air-layers by PCM Concentration Changes)

  • 본 연구는 상변화물질의 농도가 의복내 공기충의 온도변화에 미치는 영향을 연구하고자 하였다. 상변화물질로는 노나데칸을 사용하였으며 농도는 아크릴 바인더 대비 10%, 20%, 30%로 조절하여 면직물에 코팅처리하였다. 동적 열전달 측정장치인 Human-Clothing-Environment Simulator을 사용하여 고온에서 저온 이동시 다시 고온이동시의 의복내 온도변화를 측정하였다. 외부 환경온도는 고온은 34도, 저온은 5도와 10도를 하였으며 먼저 34도에서 한시간 동안 컨디셔닝한 후에 5도 또는 10도에 30분 동안 노출시켜 의복내 온도변화를 측정하였고 다시 34도에 노출시켜 30분동안 의복내 공기층에서의 상변화물질의 열적거동을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 상변화물질처리된 직물로 이루어진 의복내 공기층은 고온에서 저온이동시 상변화물질의 발열효과로 인해 미처리 직물보다 높은 온도를 나타내었으며, 저온에서 고온이동시에는 흡열효과로 인해 미처리 직물보다 온도상승이 느리게 나타났다. 농도가 증가할수록 상변화물질에 의한 발열효과는 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며 흡열효과의 경우에는 20%에서 큰 변화를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 농도변화에 따른 미처리와 처리직물 사이의 차이를 보면, 10%에서 20% 증가시에 나타난 차이가 20%에서 30% 농도변화시에 나타난 차이보다 크게 나타났다. PCM 처리된 모든 직물들이 상변화를 겪는 것은 아니었으며 직물층에 따라 상변화를 하였고 최외곽층의 경우에는 상변화물질에 의한 흡열발열현상외에도 외부로의 열손실을 겪기 때문에 이에 대한고찰이 있어야하는 것을 알 수 있었다.

냉각조끼착용에 따른 인체의 온열생리학적 특성 (Thermophysiological Response of Human Body in Wearing Codling Vest)

  • To do this study, we produced cooling vest newly. Rectal temperature was ascended approximately from 37.2$^{\circ}C$ to 38.05$^{\circ}C$ in lab, but wearing cooling vest, the temperature was descended 0.2 while wearing developed product compare with existing product. Mean skin temperature which was showed distribution from 32.8∼36.5$^{\circ}C$, it was descended 1.0∼1.1$^{\circ}C$, while wearing cooling vest and comparing with existing product, wearing developed product was lower 0.5$^{\circ}C$, While wearing developed product, it was found that they had lower tendency than exiting product. Specifically in case of temperature within clothing(chest) 0.2∼2.0$^{\circ}C$ in case of humidity within clothing 2∼8% RH. Facts from above we confirmed that clothing microclimate had been improved and space was happened between body and garment in order to control. In subjective sensation, existing product made negative response during experiment period from participants, but developed product was nearing to comfortable area.

  • The purposes of this study are finding out thermophysiological properties throughout wearing experiment with standard cooling vest as well as providing data in order to design and apply more comfortable cooling vest. To do this study, we produced cooling vest newly. 1. 소비자 조사와 착의 실험을 통한 온도감응형 기능성 의류개발을 위한 기초연구 (Thermo-sensitive Clothing Development by Consumer Investigation and Wearing Test)

  • In this research, consumer awareness investigation and wearing test were carried out for obtaining useful data on the development of thermo-sensitive functional clothing material. A survey involved 216 people in Seoul and Kyeonggi-do, and 200 questionnaires data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and frequency using SPSS 17.0. Four healthy men in twenties were participated for wearing test. Subjects in normal loungewear were exposed to temperature change from the initial temperature $30^{\circ}C$ down to $5^{\circ}C$ for an hour in a climate chamber. The environmental temperature, surface temperature of garment and skin were measured. As a result, most of respondents have all season clothing products such as underwear, hosiery, and jogging suit for loungewear. Also, thermo regulator y functional clothes are frequently used as underwear and sweat shirt. The consumer awareness investigation on thermo regulatory functional clothing showed that the most important key buying factor is quick climate temperature response, easy maintenance, design and cost, in that order. Surface temperature of garment went down with the cooling down of environmental temperature. The lower environmental temperature, the greater temperature difference by body part showed. Skin temperature change by environmental temperature showed similar tendency of garment surface temperature. In comparison between garment surface and body skin, temperature difference became larger under the lower environmental temperature.

Analysis of Cross Sectional Ease Values for Fit Analysis from 3D Body Scan Data Taken in Working Positions

  • Purpose- The purpose of this study was to compare the fit of two prototype liquid cooled vests using a 3D body scanner and accompanying software. The objectives of this study were to obtain quantitative measurements of ease values, and to use these data to evaluate the fit of two cooling vests in active positions and to develop methodological protocol to resolve alignment issues between the scans using software designed for the alignment of 3D objects. Design/methodology/approach- Garment treatments and body positions were two independent variables with three levels each. Quantitative dataset were dependent variables, and were manipulated in 3x3 factorial designs with repeated measures. Scan images from eight subjects were used and ease values were obtained to compare the fit. Two different types of analyses were conducted in order to compare the fit using t-test; those were radial mean distance value analysis and radial distance distribution rate analysis. Findings- Overall prototype II achieved a closer fit than prototype I with both analyses. These were consistent results with findings from a previous study that used a different approach for evaluation. Research limitations/implications- The main findings can be used as practical feedback for prototype modification/selection in the design process, making use of 3D body scanner as an evaluation tool. Originality/value- Methodological protocols that were devised to eliminate potential sources of errors can contribute to application of data from 3D body scanners.

폐경기 증상 경험 유무에 따른 중년여성의 의복 구매 요인 및 만족도 조사 (Survey on Clothing Worn by Middle-aged Women Undergoing Menopause and Their Satisfaction with Garments According to Menopausal Symptoms)

  • This study investigated the garments of middle-aged women undergoing menopause and their satisfaction with them. Data were collected through a survey of 288 middle-aged women and analyzed using SPSS 17.0. As a result (in terms of degree of symptoms) backache, arthralgia, muscular pain and heat sensation were indicated as significantly more outstanding in the menopause group rather than the menopausal transition group. As a countermeasure to physiological symptoms, a change of temperature (warming or cooling) was applied for backache and arthralgia as well as taking medicine for stomachaches and muscular pain. Body parts suffering from heat sensations were the face, back neck, chest center, waist and hip. Body parts suffering from arthralgia and muscular pain were the shoulder and hip joints. The most significant purchasing factor for menopausal women was the fit of outerwear and antibiosis in underwear; however, women not undergoing menopause selected comfortableness when moving as the most important factor. In terms of body shaping and thermoregulation function, the satisfaction degree in underwear was significantly different between the two groups. Menopausal women wanted functional underwear that provided functions such as thermoregulation, absorption of secretions, and antibiosis.

가변 통기성 의복을 위한 스마트 개폐장치 개발: 양방향 작동 액추에이터 제작을 위한 일방향 형상기억합금 와이어의 최적 직경 및 전압인가 단위시간의 도출 (Development of Smart Switchgear for Versatile Ventilation Garments: Optimum Diameter and Voltage Application Unit Time of One-way Shape Memory Alloy Wire for a Bi-directional Actuator)

  • 본 연구에서는 가변 통기성 스마트 의류의 제작을 위해 필요한 형상기억합금 액추에이터의 작동 조건을 파악하였다. 의복의 개방, 폐쇄와 같은 양방향 작동 시 형태 변형 시에만 전력을 소모하는 저전력 소모 액추에이터 개발을 위해 복수 채널의 일방향 형상기억합금을 이용하여 스위치로 작동되는 액추에이터를 설계하였으며 가장 효율적으로 작동할 수 있는 와이어의 직경과 전압인가 단위시간을 도출하였다. 선행연구 결과 도출된 양방향 작동이 가능한 일방향 형상기억합금의 직경 범위 내에서 Arduino 스위치를 제작하여 3.7V 전압인가 시 변화량을 분석한 결과 $0.4{\Phi}$의 액추에이터가 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. $0.4{\Phi}$ 형상기억합금와이어를 사용한 양방향작동 액추에이터의 개방, 폐쇄에 필요한 최적전압인가 시간을 도출하기 위해 액추에이터의 최대개방, 최소폐쇄 도달 전압인가 시간으로부터 50ms씩 감소, 증가 시키며 냉각 후 액추에이터의 내경을 비교하는 방식으로 측정한 결과 개방 동작에 필요한 최적 전압인가 단위시간은 4,100ms로 나타났다. 각 채널간의 발열에 의한 간섭을 최소화하기 위한 양방향간 작동 시 필요 딜레이 분석을 위해 상온에서 형상기억합금에 최적 전압입가 시간인 4.1초 동안 전원을 공급하고 가열 후 냉각까지의 과정을 열화상카메라로 촬영하여 형상기억합금 와이의 온도가 냉각시의 상변태온 이하로 하강하는 시점을 파악한 결과, 액추에이터의 양방향간 작동 딜레이는 1.8초 이상이 확보되어야 함을 파악할 수 있었다.
