In order to analyse the thermal performance of battery systems in electric vehicles complex simulation models with high computational cost are necessary. Using reduced order methods, real-time applicable model can be developed and used for on-board monitoring. In this work a data driven model of the cooling plate as part of the battery system is built and derived from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. The aim of this paper is to create a meta model of the cooling plate that estimates the temperature at the boundary for different heat flow rates, mass flows and inlet temperatures of the cooling fluid. In order to do so, the cooling plate is simulated in a CFD software (ANSYS Fluent ®). A data driven model is built using the design of experiment (DOE) and various approximation methods in Optimus ®. The model can later be combined with a reduced model of the thermal battery system. The assumption and simplification introduced in this paper enable an accurate representation of the cooling plate with a real-time applicable model.

Linear permanent magnet synchronous motors utilize high-energy product permanent magnet to produce high thrust, velocity and acceleration. Such motors are finding applications requiring high positioning accuracy and speed response, for example, machine tools, in the absence of mechanical gears and ball screw systems. A disadvantage of the linear motors is high power loss in comparison with rotary motors. For the application of the linear motors to machine tools, it is required to use water coolers and to improve the thermal behavior through insulation and structure optimization or control strategies. This paper presents the function of the secondary part of the linear synchronous motor as to the thermal behavior and the improving method. The result shows cooling pipe combined with an insulation layer is a suitable design for improving of the thermal behavior.
Increase in energy consumption in building is a big concern world over. In Nepal, energy crisis is a big issue but energy demand in buildings is barely even thought about. In the southern part of Nepal, where the weather is mostly hot during the year, cooling in buildings is very important. This is an initial study regarding building design strategies which focuses on cooling energy consumption in the building. It can be seen from the study that simple passive strategies can be applied in building design which can support in decreasing cooling load. Different passive cooling strategies like orientation, building size, thermal mass, window design and two direct cooling strategies have been investigated in this study. Direct cooling strategies like shading and natural cooling helps in passive cooling. Different desing strategies have different impact on the cooling energy requirement and the study shows that thermo physical property of building materials has the maximum effect on the energy consumption of the building. Each design strategy creates and average of 20% decrease in energy consumption, whereas the thermal conductivity can have as much as 10 times more effect on the energy consumption than other design strategies.

The occurrence of white plume in the cooling tower is phenomenon that the steam in the air through the cooling tower fan is condensed again by the cold ambient air to become saturated moist air. Accordingly, this can cause many problems like spoiling landscape around the cooling tower, odor of ambient air, falling accident by frozenness in the winter, and traffic accident, etc. This study was to install the heat exchanger in the inside of the cooling tower in order to prevent the white plume phenomenon in the cooling tower without affecting the performance of cooling tower. In addition, this study was to discharge the part of cooling water into the atmosphere through the recirculation of heat exchanger after creating dry air by heating the saturated moist air to the dew point temperature. At that time, this study was to conduct the experimental study in order to secure the optimal design data to prevent the white plume in the cooling tower because it checked the dry·moist temperature and relative humidity in the inside·outside of cooling tower on the moist air, and evaluated the performance of the heat exchanger.
Recently, local swine producers are rapidly adopting the indoor production system which developed in foreign countries. However, this imported system is reported as not functioning properly because of different climate conditions. The objective of this project was to investigate the environment characteristics of a windowless delivery swine building. The parameters studied were the heating and cooling loads, the daily changes of indoor temperature and relative humidity, the horizontal and the vertical distributions of indoor temperature, and the effect of mist cooling on indoor temperature. From this study, the following are founded : 1. The maximum cooling and heating loads were - 317.0kcal/㎡$.$h and 336.5kal/㎡$.$h in summer and in winter. The large loads seems to be on account of inappropriate operations of ventilating fans. 2. The daily variations of relative humidity in indoor were smaller than those in outside. Those values both in summer and in winter as relative humidities in door was lower than optimum for growing pigs, the additional humidifier might be helpful to increase the relative humidity in indoor. 3. The horizontal distribution of the indoor temperature was found to be uniform in the variation range of 1$^{\circ}C$. 4. The vertical distribution of the indoor temperature was not found to be uniform; the temperature of upper part was higher than that of slot part. 5. Average values of indoor temperature became lower by 3$^{\circ}C$ by mist cooling. But the variation of temperature was found to be larger; The middle part of the room was cooled down, but the corner part of the room was not affected by misting due to uneven nozzle configuration.

Commercial buildings account for significant portions of the total building energy in Korea, and thus, a variety of research on chiller operation has been carried out. However, most of the studies were carried out on the chiller itself, i.e., the part load ratio characteristics and the corresponding electricity energy consumption patterns were not analyzed in existing studies. In this study, the part load ratio and the operating characteristics of the vapor compression chiller were analyzed within an office building equipped with the conventional variable air volume system. As a result, significant portions of total operating hours, cooling load, and energy consumption turned out to be in the part load ratio range of 0 through 50%. Thus, energy consumption was significantly affected by the chiller COP at low part load conditions, indicating that chiller operation at the part load is an important factor in commercial buildings.
Interest in remanufacturing of part has significantly increased to reduce used material and energy together. The directed energy deposition (DED) process has widely applied to remanufacturing of the part. An excessive residual stress takes place in the vicinity of the deposited region by the DED process due to rapid heating and rapid cooling (RHRC) phenomenon. The excessive residual stress decreases the reliability of the remanufactured part. Therefore, thermo-mechanical analysis for the remanufacturing of the part is needed to investigate heat transfer and residual stress characteristics in the vicinity of the deposited region. The thermo-mechanical analysis of a large volume deposition is significantly difficult to perform due to the requirement of a long computation time and a large computer memory. The goal of this paper is to investigate thermo-mechanical characteristics for remanufacturing of the ATC part using a DED process. The methodology of the thermo-mechanical analysis for a large volume deposition is proposed. From the results of analysis, heat transfer and residual stress characteristics during deposition and cooling stages are investigated. In addition, the proper deposition strategy from the viewpoint of the residual stress is discussed.

This paper describes the analysis of flow field using a projection finite element method. The projection scheme with a pressure correction is presented for the analysis of an incompressible Navier-Stokes flow. The projection scheme is analyzed numerically and applied to the well-known bench marking problems such as lid driven cavity. Finally, the projection scheme is applied to a flow through the automobiles front. In the automobiles cooling system, the flow through its front is very important to a cooling performance. The results show that the flow quantity increases by locating the position of bumper to the further front position of a car. And, the improvement on the suction part below a bumper achieves the more passing flow quantity. The attachment of an air dam increases passing flow quantity causing the pressure rise to the front part and the pressure drop beneath a car.
In this analytical study on the engine coolant flow of a heavy-duty diesel engine with 4 valves and linear-type 8 liter 6 cylinders, the characteristics of pressure drop and engine cooling performance with the additional coolant passages between cylinder blocks have been investigated. Since the most part of pressure drop is caused by the coolant flow passages inside a cylinder head and cylinder blocks for this type of heavy-duty diesel engines, the advantage of pressure drop is just 2.6% and the characteristics of heat transfer and the distribution of coolant velocities in the head part show little differences in case of additional coolant passages. Thus the coolant flow passages between cylinder blocks make little contribution on the cooling performance of heavy-duty diesel engines

For economic evaluation of cooling plant equipments, it is necessary to simplify energy Prediction method, which should includes efficiency corrected by part-load ratio. This study proposed simplified method with regression equations of time-average partial loads and refrigerator capacity. DOE-2 Program was used to carry out a parametric study of twelve design variables. Five input variables were considered to be significant and were used in the regression equations. To test accuracy of simplified method, calculated results were compared with DOE-2 simulated results. Test result showes a good agreement with the simulation result with an error of 5.9∼7.6%. It is expected that this method can be used as an easy prediction tool for comparing energy use of different cooling plants during the early design stage.
