The techniques of joint mobilization and traction are used to improve joint mobility or to decrease pain by restoring accessory movements to the shoulder joints and thus allowing full, nonrestriced, pain-free range of motion. In the glenohumeral joint, the humeral head would be the convex surface, while the glenoid fossa would be the concave surface. The medial end of the clavicle is concave anterioposteriorly and convex superioinferiorly, the articular surface of the sternum is reciprocally curved. The acromioclavicular joint is a plane synovial joint between a small convex facet on lateral end of the clavicle and a small concave facet on the acromion of the scapula. The relationship between the shape of articulating joint surface and the direction of gliding is defined by the convex-concave rule. If the concave joint surface is moving on a stationary convex surface, gliding occur in the same direction as the rolling motion. If the convex surface is moving on a stationary concave surface, gliding will occur in an opposite direction to rolling. Hypomobile shoulder joint are treated be using a gliding technique.

Both ground and space telescopes are being built larger and larger. Accordingly, the secondary mirrors become larger which are convex mostly on the surface form. Testing convex mirrors becomes more difficult and delicate than testing concave mirrors in optics, because additional optical components are needed to make the reflected rays converge. Hindle type tests are frequently used for measuring the surface deforms of convex mirrors, which employs a meniscus lens to reverse the diverted rays from the mirrors. In case of testing large convex mirrors by using Hindle type tests, attention would be needed as larger meniscus lens is required. A method of modified Hindle test has been studied and the characteristics are analyzed. In this paper, current method of testing convex mirrors is presented, and a new method is discussed.

We produce a photosensitive convex plate to research a Nickel metal relief printing plate using galvanic process. A Method for preparing DLC convex plate that is metalized on Nickel metal relief printing plate using CVD(Chemical Vapor Deposition) process and $N_2DLC$-convex plate that is DLC metalized thin film layer of $N_2$ plasma surface treatment are comprised. DLC thin film layers on Nickel surface are fragile. The results of the research indicate that the coefficient of friction on DLC metalized thin film layer is relatively low than Nickel surface and the durability of Nickel surface coated DLC metalized thin film layer is superior to Nickel surface. A relative evaluation of three form plate wetting properties using varnish liquid-drop plate indicates superior printing aptitudes for $N_2DLC$, DLC, Nichel plate order as above.

We studied the relationship between the surface smoothness of the internal Cu ribbon and the morphology of the Sn-Pb plating layer for solar cell modules. A bumpy surface was observed on the surface of the solar ribbon, which caused irregular reflection of light. Large, Pb-rich, primary ${\alpha}$-phases were found below the convex surface of the solar ribbon, passing from the surface of the internal Cu ribbon to the surface of the plating layer. The primary ${\alpha}$-phases heterogeneously nucleated on the convex surface of the Cu ribbon, and then largely grew to the convex surface of the plating layer. The restriction of the primary ${\alpha}$-phase's formation was enabled by enhancing the smoothness of the Cu ribbon's surface; it was also possible to increase the adhesive strength and decrease contact resistance. We confirmed that the solar ribbon's surface smoothness depends on the internal Cu ribbon's surface smoothness.

The local Nusselt numbers have been measured for a round turbulent jet impinging on the convex surface with and without rib. Liquid crystal/transient method was used to determine the Nusselt number distributions along the surface. The temperature on the surface was measured to within .+-.0.25 deg. C accuracy using liquid crystal and a digital color image processing system. The experiments were made for the jet Reynolds number (Re) 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 6 to 10, the dimensionless surface curvature (d/D) 0.056, and the various rib types (height(d$_{1}$) from 1 to 2 mm, pitch (p) from 6 to 32 mm). It was found that the average Nusselt numbers on the convex surface with rib are higher than those without rib, mainly due to an increase in the turbulent intensity caused by flow separation, recirculation and reattachment on the wall surface. In addition, we compared the results by the steady-state method using the gold-film Intrex with those by the transient method.

In this paper, an effective scheme was proposed to estimate simple convex surface and simple concave surface which exist in image. This scheme is applied to input image to estimate simple convex surface or simple concave surface. When simple convex surface or simple concave surface exists, another proposed efficient interpolation scheme is used for the interpolated pixel to have the characteristics of simple convex surface or simple concave surface. The magnified image using the proposed schemes is more similar to the real image than the magnified image using the previous schemes. The PSNR values of the magnified images using the proposed schemes are greater than those of the magnified images using the previous interpolation schemes.
We describe a efficient surface reconstruction method that reconstructs a 3D manifold polygonal mesh approximately passing through a set of 3D oriented points. Our algorithm includes 3D convex hull, octree data structure, signed distance function (SDF), and marching cubes. The 3D convex hull provides us with a fast computation of SDF, octree structure allows us to compute a minimal distance for SDF, and marching cubes lead to iso-surface generation with SDF. Our approach gives us flexibility in the choice of the resolution of the reconstructed surface, and it also enables to use on low-level PCs with minimal peak memory usage. Experimenting with publicly available scan data shows that we can reconstruct a polygonal mesh from point cloud of sizes varying from 10,000 ~ 1,000,000 in about 1~60 seconds.

The part-surface of mold or stamping-dies consists of a compound surface which consists of lots of composite surfaces, and may have various types of feature shapes including convex sharp edge (CSE). Those CSE features should be considered with care in machining the surface, which necessitates extraction of CSE curves on a compound surface. This work can be done rather easily for a solid model which has a complete topology information. In case of the compound surface without topology information, however, such CSE curves must be gathered through some geometrical calculations paying much computation time. In the paper, extracting CSE curves by the construction of a CSE region-map which can reduce time, and detecting various common edge types are presented.
