  • Quater polymer(MBHA) containing two types of acrylic functional group, acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate(AAM) and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate was prepared. Then, the MBHA was blended with polyisocyanate type Desmodur IL as a curing agent. Thereafter the mixture was cured at room temperature to get high solid acrylic/polyisocyanate. The MBHA was synthesized at $150^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours typically, and the final conversion reached 87-88%. Lowering Tg and increasing AAM amount in the MBHA resulted in high value of conversion. There was no difference in conversion with the variations of OH values. From the results of physical property tests, MIHS coating was proved to be a good automotive top-coating material.

  • In this thesis, the matching network at the local oscillator port of the sub-harmonic mixer is optimized for reducing the conversion loss. A downconverter for point to point system applications is designed and fabricated using the such sub-harmonic mixer. The sub-harmonic mixer achieved the conversion loss of 11.8 dB at the 12 dBm input power of the local oscillator and the isolation of less than -40 dB. The downconverter achieved the IF output power flatness of 2 dB and the total noise figure of 5.9 dB.

  • Among the effector molecules connected with the group of cell surface receptors, Ras proteins have essential roles in transducing extracellular signals to diverse intracellular events, by controlling the activities of multiple signaling pathways. For over 20 years since the discovery of Ras proteins, an enormous amount of knowledge has been accumulated as to how the proteins function in overlapping or distinct fashions. The signaling networks they regulate are very complex due to their multiple functions and cross-talks. Much attention has been paid to the pathological role of Ras in tumorigenesis. In particular, human tumors very frequently express Ras proteins constitutively activated by point mutations. Up to date, three members of the Ras family have been identified, namely H-Ras, K-Ras (A and B), and N-Ras. Although these Ras isoforms function in similar ways, many evidences also support the distinct molecular function of each Ras protein. This review summarizes differential functions of Ras and highlights the current view of the distinct signaling network regulated by each Ras for its contribution to the malignant phenotypic conversion of breast epithelial cells. Four issues are addressed in this review: (1) Ras proteins, (2) membrane localization of Ras, (3) effector molecules downstream of Ras, (4) Ras signaling in invasion. In spite of the accumulation of information on the differential functions of Ras, much more remains to be elucidated to understand the Ras-mediated molecular events of malignant phenotypic conversion of cells in a greater detail.

  • The Part 7 of MPEG-21, called Digital Item Adaptation, aims at an interoperable transparent access of multimedia contents in heterogeneous environments. This standard facilitates the development of Universal Multimedia Access (UMA) systems, which adapt the rich multimedia contents to provide user the best possible presentation under the constraints of various terminals and network connections. Content adaptation has two major aspects: one is modality conversion that converts content from one modality (e.g. video) to different modalities (e.g. image) the other is content scaling that changes the titrates (or qualities) of the contents without converting their modalities. At the output of adaptation process, the highly-subjective qualities of adapted contents nay vary widely with respect to point-of-views of different providers and different users. So, user should have some control on the adaptation process. In this paper, we describe two description tools of user characteristics, the presentation priority preference and the modality conversion preference, which allow user to have flexible choices on the qualities and modalities of output contents. We also present a systematic approach to integrate these user preferences into the adaptation process. These description tools are developed in the process of MPEG-21 standardization.

  • In this study, two reliability computational algorithms which respectively utilize a factoring method are proposed for a system represented by reliability block diagram. First, vertex factoring algorithm is proposed. In this algorithm, a reliability block diagram is considered as a network graph with vertex reliabilities. Second algorithm is mainly concerned with conversion of a reliabilities block diagram into a network graph with edge reliabilities. In this algorithm, the independence of edges is preserved by eliminating replicated edges, and in computing the reliability of a converted network graph, existing edge factoring algorithm is applied. The efficiency of two algorithms are compared for example systems with respect to computing times. The results shows that the second algorithm is shown to be more efficient than the first algorithm.

  • This paper describes a lane following control of vision based mobile robot that follows guidline. Summation of binarization conversion and image data of vertical axis was used in image processing. As an extraction of specific parameters of lane image, the raw image was converted to the binary data, and the binary data was summerized to the specific data vertically. The specific parameters were made to the inputs of neural network. Summation of image data was used for input of the net, and optimized value of turn angles of learned mobile robot was output. By using neural network algorithm, possibility of mobile robot moving to the target point and following the guidlines quickly and effectively was proved.

  • The studies on the photovoltaic system are extensively exhaustible and broadly available resourse as a future energy supply. In this paper, a new maximum power point tracker(MPPT) using neural network theory is proposed to improve energy conversion efficiency. The boost converter and neural network controller(NNC) were employed so that the operating point of solar cell was located at the Maximum Power Point. And the back propagation algorithm with one input layer of two inputs(E, CE) and output layer(cnntrol value) was applied to train a neural network. Simulation and experimental results show that the performance of NNC in MPPT of photovoltaic array is better than that of controller based upon the Hill Climbing Method.

  • In this paper, a recurrent artificial neural network (RNN) based self-tuning speed controller is proposed for the high-performance drives of induction motors. The RNN provides a nonlinear modeling of a motor drive system and could provide the controller with information regarding the load variation system noise, and parameter variation of the induction motor through the on-line estimated weights of the corresponding RNN. Thus, the proposed self-tuning controller can change the gains of the controller according to system conditions. The gain is composed with the weights of the RNN. For the on-line estimation of the RNN weights, an extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm is used. A self-tuning controller is designed that is adequate for the speed control of the induction motor The availability of the proposed controller is verified through MATLAB simulations and is compared with the conventional PI controller.

  • Watershed is the land area that contributes runoff to an outlet point. To delineate an watershed, watershed delineation using GIS that contains grid data structure is the most general method. Some researchers have studied to implement algorithms that revise the TIN topography since it is difficult to delineate watershed boundary more accurately. In this study kruskal's greedy algorithm and triangulated irregular network (TIN) were used to delineate a watershed. This method does not require a conversion from to DEM in grid and automatically obtain(generates) the oulet points. Delineation algorithm was tested in Geosan-gun, Chung-cheongbuk-do and get small watershed areas. Finally, kruskal's algorithm could operate more precisely with revision algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a system design for a parallel3-dimensional optical interconnection network utilizing variable grating mode liquid crystal devices (VGM LCD's) which are optical transducers capable of performing intensity-to-spatial-frequency conversion. The proposed system performs real-time, reconfigurable, but blocking and nonbroadcasting 3-dimensional optical interconnections. The operating principles of the 3-D optical interconnection network are described, and some of the fundamental limitations are addressed. The system presented in this paper can be directly used as a configuration of switching elements for the 2-D optical perfect-shuffle dynamic interconnection network, as well as for a B-ISDN photonic switching system.
