In recent years, 'technological fusion or convergence' has drawn a lot of attention of innovation researchers and governmental policy makers as the driving force of technological innovation and industrial growth. There are, however, few studies on the analysis of longitudinal trends of technological convergence and its comparison between global and national level. In this study, with the citation data of about 18 million articles, we analyzed 1) the growth of representative convergence research areas, 2) the convergence of citing patterns between research fields, and 3) the changing trend of diversity index of all research fields. We conclude that technological convergence in korea shows the relatively strong orientation to the combination of neighboring fields than that of heterogenous fields in comparison to global trend. In particular, the relatively weak activity of cognitive science and the low level of mutual exchange between arts/humanities/social sciences and natural/engineering sciences in Korea are emphasized.

The purpose of this study was to development of the 'convergence motive' scale for interdisciplinary knowledge fusion. Based on results from literature review, this study clarifies a theoretical ground for 'convergence motive'. Initial items to measure this concept were verified by content analysis and then finalized. After a pilot test done with 568 college students, gathered data were analyzed by item selection and exploratory factor analysis to verify their validity. Next, the main test implemented with 1,211 college students was analyzed with exploratory factor analysis using the method for rotation based on maximum likelihood analysis and direct oblimin for validating the final items to measure 'convergence motive'. As a result, the scale for 'convergence motive' consists of 43 items to measure the following four factors: collaboration to identifying and solving problems, challenge of a new perspective, communication for convergence, cohesion for convergence. Construct validity and criterion-related validity were performed at last to check this scale's theoretical construct. In conclusion, this study concluded that the scales for convergence motive could be generalized and applicable to other samples.

Many scholars have addressed the technological convergence of small-medium sized firms in Korea and their impact on the economic growth of nation. Nevertheless, most studies have been investigated the relationship between entrepreneurship and venture creation, and a few studies have analyzed the innovation and technological convergence of SMEs. The purpose of this research is to gain industrial insight into the technological convergence and to suggest a dynamic growth policy for entrepreneurs of SMEs to improve their convergence performance based on IT and BT. Therefore, we intend to propose solutions to these key questions in convergence such as; what are the key patterns in the process of technological convergence of SMEs on IT and BT, and what kinds of strategy do their need? In order to answer these research questions, we adopt network analysis using patent citation information. Results of network analysis revealed that building ecosystem based on government and universities is one of the most important factors for the future growth of SMEs in Korea. Also, the fit between technological convergence direction of SMEs and division of convergence structure of government and universities will be positively associated with dynamic growth of SMEs in Korea. In conclusion, this research extends the current studies on important aspects of SMEs in the technological convergence process by proposing their growth in convergence process to a newly converging context, IT and BT, and shed light on the integrative perspectives of crucial roles of SMEs on innovation performance in the IT and BT technological convergence.

As technology convergence is recognized as a driver of innovation, the identification of technology convergence opportunities is critical to expanding a firm's technology portfolio. Recently, wearable technology has emerged as an important factor in creating new business opportunities and providing technology investment alternatives for firms in the era of Industry 4.0. Against this background, this study provides a new patent analysis framework for identifying and proposing technology convergence opportunities in the wearable field. Using 8,621 patents filed between 2011 and 2021, a case study was conducted to identify technological convergence opportunities by applying Word2Vec algorithm. The analysis framework can be divided into four stages, with the final stage recommending potential technology convergence opportunities for a specific candidate firm's technology area by calculating similarities between technology codes. This study aims to better understand the current status of wearable technology development as well as to propose a new methodology for capturing technology convergence opportunities in the wearable industry. The case study result suggests that the convergence of healthcare and ICT may provide new development opportunities. Furthermore, the results are expected to provide alternative perspectives on the development of new markets and technologies using wearable technology and can support the strategic decision-making on future technology planning in the wearable field.

This study investigates empirically on the business analysis of fixed mobile convergence telecommunication service. As for the stage of empirical analysis, the process was carried out in the order elaboration of a test model, selection of sample, empirical analysis and interpretation of result. We report our Preliminary results on the fixed mobile convergence telecommunication service demand pattern forecasting by Bass model. The results show that the fixed mobile convergence telecommunication service may sustain profitability over the next ten years in the market. In conclusion, the practical implication of the result attained by this study is that in order to create a fixed mobile convergence in the korean business world, practical tools such as WiBro service is no less important than fixed service and Mobile service, and that users may be rightfully encouraged to adopt WiBro service.

A technology can be newly formed through technological convergence achieved by the intersection of two or more technological fields. As the complexity of technology development increases, related interest is increasing. Researches have been carried out on the concept, related indicators and analysis of technology convergence including method of social networks. This paper intends to suggest an analysis method of technology convergence using social networks based on the company's possessing technologies. According to the similarity of technologies among companies, a social network was constructed and the technology convergence was analyzed using k-core, a social network subgroup method. Using the result of k-core, base and element technologies for convergence was identified with their relations. Using the suggested method, technology convergence was analyzed on real technology data of defense-industry companies. When the minimum technology similarity is 0, the overall technology convergence relations between technology elements can be identified. In the scope of data in this paper, technologies of defense S/W, aircraft structure and structural materials are identified as important base technology for convergence.

Recently, the emergence of smartphone foster the technological convergence. This convergence no longer takes place within technologies only. Rather, convergence phenomena happen as a form of embodied services. However, previous research on convergence has been subject to the technology-oriented studies, including suggesting patent-based indexes or analyzing technological characteristics. However, investigating technology-service convergence is critical since most of new smart services are technology-based convergence services. Therefore, we analyze the pattern of technology-service convergence which occurs in the smartphone application services. We divided the smatphone application services into four categories, and employ a network analysis to represent the convergence phenomena of each category. Our study is expected to provide meaningful implication in new service development practice.

본 연구는 기술연관분석으로 단기 상용화를 위한 기술개발과제에 투입된 기술간 융합현황을 분석하였다. 기술연관분석은 산업구조분석의 체계를 기술기획 분야에 적용한 것이다. 본 사례는 기술연관분석을 활용하여 기술과 제품 간 연관도를 중심으로 분석하였으며 분석대상은 중소기업기술정보진흥원의 ' '12년 중소기업 융 복합기술개발사업'에 신청한 401개 과제이다. 분석과정은 다음과 같다. 401개 개별과제에 대해서 투입된 기술은 기술로, 개발과제에서 산출을 제품으로 정의하고 이를 투입과 산출의 행렬로 정리하였다. 투입으로 정의한 기술은 국가과학기술표준분류 상의 소분류를 분류하고, 산출로 정의한 제품은 한국표준산업분류 상의 세세분류로 정의하였다. 즉, 기술을 투입으로, 제품을 산출로 정의하여 기술의 파급도를 분석하였으며 이에 기초하여 기술연관도를 작성하였다 분석결과, IT융합에서는 임베디드 S/W의 기술파급도가 가장 높았으며, ET융합에서는 금형의 기술파급도가 가장 높았고 BT융합은 기능성 화장품 개발기술의 기술파급도가 가장 높았다. 전체적으로 IT융합에서 기술파급도가 높은 요소기술이 많았으며, ET융합에서 기술파급도가 높은 요소기술이 작았다. 따라서 기술파급도가 높은 요소기술에 대한 투자가 융합을 활성화하는 데 중요하며 전체적으로 IT분야가 요소기술의 투자 효과가 높을 것으로 판단한다.

Purpose With the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution era, ICT convergence industry is leading the wave of new change. These changes in the industrial field are recognizing convergence as a strategic cooperation tool of management for creating new value. In order to achieve the research purpose, conceptual understanding of ICT convergence is summarized by focusing on concepts, features, types and cases. In addition, this study established the theoretical rationale for the determinants of ICT convergence performance, and examined previous researches related to ICT convergence. Design/methodology/approach The empirical research method is based on a survey of 510 companies including managers and mid-level practitioners who understand the contents of the relevant field, 305 data were used for analysis. We conducted exploratory factor analysis to verify the grouping of these questionnaire items and conducted confirmatory factor analysis to analyze the validity and reliability of the measurement model. Through the statistical analysis, we analyzed the structural relationship of ICT firms' competencies for convergence performance. Findings Linkage of ICT strategies established by corporations is an important factor for enhancing resource capacity and convergence ability. It is important to ensure that product innovation, consumer-oriented strategies, and ICT strategies for the implementation of business strategies are closely linked. In addition, in the convergence environment, companies should make efforts to develop convergence ability and improve organizational performance through utilization of ICT resources. From the CEO's perspective, it is necessary to understand the knowledge, technology and resources arising from the convergence environment, and to integrate with the resources possessed by the enterprise to induce the organization's performance.
