  • Tilting trains are now an established feature of railway operations throughout the world. For intercity traffic, tilt provides operators with increasing speeds, and therefore enhanced competitiveness, on existing routes where insufficient traffic or a lack of funds precludes the construction of a dedicated new high-speed railway. This paper explains the reduction effects of journey time with the Korean tilting train. The Korean Tilting Train express (TTX) project has been carried out to develop alt the core technologies related to tilting train and infra-technology to provide high speed inter-city service with the speed of 180 km/h as well as maintenance-free technology for conventional railway system. In order to simulate we considered 5 conventional railway. As a results of simulation, we found out the tilting train has very high efficiency(reduction rate 20-30%).

  • As power demand increases gradually, the call for underground transmission system increases. But it is very difficult and high in cost to construct new ducts and/or tunnels for power cables in metropolitan areas. HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) cable has the several useful characteristics such as increased power density, stronger fields and/or reduced losses. Therefore HTS cable can allow more power to be moved in existing ducts, which means very large economical and environmental benefits. In these days, companies world-wide have conducted researches on HTS cable. A development project for a 22.9kV class HTS cable is proceeding at a research center and university in Korea. In this paper, we investigate the expected price of HTS cable to have a merit in viewpoint of economic aspect. First, life-cycle cost of conventional cable is calculated and based on this, the expected price of HTS cable is evaluated, which HTS cable is competitive against conventional cable.

  • The pre-assembly takes a large portion of the fabrication cost of steel bridges. In order to save the fabrication cost through the improvement of the conventional pre-assembling process, this research investigates a numerical pre-assembly simulation as an alternative to current pre-assembling process. The 3D laser scanning was utilized in site and measuring data for steel box were analyzed. The productivity of pre-assembly simulation system is compared with the conventional pre-assembling system. This paper identifies feasibility on the alternative pre-assembling process and then proposes the scheme of the pre-assembly simulation system development satisfying the current pre-assembly inspection of standards.

  • This paper presents first results of an interdisciplinary research project for the development of an "intelligent" welding helmet. Contrary to conventional welding helmets the system allows a detailed observation both of the welding process and the environment. By methods of virtual and augmented reality additional information can be supplied to the welder. The system can be used for welding preparation, welding process observation and quality assurance.

  • The application of T.B.M tunnelling has been progressively increased since the first entrance into Korea in 1985 and especially, its higher performance and safety is widely proved as a generalized tunnelling in hardrock tunnel construction, comparing wi th conventional method. This case announcement will be much helpful for your general understanding of T.B.M tunnelling and the development of tunneling technology by introducing the brief methods and construction results from the actual application cases of T.B.M tunnelling in Ulsan Water Supply Tunnel Project, the longest tunnel in Korea under construction by YOU ONE. • Korea Electric Power Research Institute has carried out verification of communication conformance on IEC 61850 based IEDs related to power IT project "Development of Prototype for Advanced Substation Automation System based on the Digital Control Technology". Owing to IEC 61850 international standard and digital substation automation system, IED testing process should be changed from the conventional way to the new way described in the paper. This paper describes IED testing procedures based on substation automation system using UML.

  • This paper is to propose new features and models for process innovation after classifying in three categories ; conventional six sigma, lean six sigma and 3rd generation six sigma. First considering two project types which are bottom-up and tod-down, DMAIC process is linked up with QC story 15 steps. Secondly, I present Koreanized lean six sigma model using Japanese production technology and principles. Lastly, this paper also depicts a new 3rd generation six sigma model utilizing MBNQA management quality system.

  • In this study, AOT that is used as a surfactant in various industries was applied to an HTPB/AP solid propellant. AOT is one of the anionic surfactants, and there have been cases where AOT was reported to induce self-extinguishable properties in propellants overseas. In this study, solid propellants using AOT were prepared, and their properties and combustion characteristics were investigated. The combustion rate of the AOT-applied propellant drops sharply when the pressure reaches a certain value during combustion. Further, the density and hardness of the propellant are lower than those of conventional HTPB/AP propellants.

  • Recently, various problems such as reduced productivity, insufficient inflow of skilled manpower, reduced quality, and concerns about increasing safety accidents have appeared in the domestic construction industry. Stakeholder of construction project are considering the Off-Site Construction (OSC) method rather than the conventional on-site construction as an alternative. Despite the importance of decision making in the early stage of the adoption of OSC, there is a lack of methodologies for rational decision making. In this study, a decision making system has been developed to derive the final construction cost score by deriving the project characteristics, selecting the construction difficulty index, and developing a cost model for each construction method alternatives to calculate the standard construction cost. Using this system, the OSC method can be effectively evaluated in terms of its feasibility in the early stage of construction
