  • Purpose: This study was carried outto compare dietary self-efficacy, obesity stress, and obesity-related quality of life (OQOL) according to BMI and stages of change in vegetable consumption. Methods: A convenience sample of 326 nursing students agreed to complete a questionnaire. Data were collected from October 7 to October 18, 2013. Results: Obesity stress and obesity-related quality of life were significantly different according to BMI. Dietary self-efficacy showed a significant difference between the pre-contemplation/contemplation stage, preparation stage, and action/maintenance stage (F=50.18, p<.001). With obesity stress, there was a significant difference between the PC/C, P, and A/M stages (F=17.63, p<.001). Dietary self-efficacy had a positive correlation with OQOL (r=.11, p<.001) and a negative correlation with obesity stress (r=-.14, p=.012). And obesity stress had a negative correlation with OQOL (r=-.45, p<.001). Conclusion: These findings emphasize that nutritional-intervention programs for changes in behavior during the PC/C and P stages of change in vegetable consumption need to develop strategies to enhance dietary self-efficacy for nursing students.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify related factors of prenatal depression by stress-vulnerability and stress-coping models for pregnant women. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design with a convenience sampling was used. A total of 107 pregnant women who visited a general hospital in a metropolitan city were recruited from August to October, 2013. A structured questionnaire included the Korean version of Beck Depression Inventory II, and the instruments measuring Self-Esteem, Marital Satisfaction, Pregnancy Stress, Stressful Life Events, and Coping. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Parson's correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of prenatal depression was $11.95{\pm}6.2$, then showing 19.6% with mild depression, 15.0% with moderate depression, and 0.9% with severe depression on BDI II scale. Prenatal depression had positive correlation with pregnancy stress (r=.55, p<.01), stressful life events (r=.26, p<.01) and negative correlation with self- esteem (r=-.38, p<.01), marital satisfaction (r=-.40, p<.01), and coping (r=-.21, p<.05). Factors of pregnancy stress, self-esteem, stressful life events, and planned pregnancy explained 38% of the total variance of prenatal depression. Conclusion: These findings show that health providers need to assess prenatal depression and to control the influencing factors.

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of occupational stress, coping flexibility, and hardiness on burnout in nurses and the factors influencing these relationships. Methods: Convenience sampling was used in this study to engage a total of 122 nurses from two general hospitals. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the nurses' occupational stress, coping flexibility, hardiness, and burnout. The collected data were analyzed with regard to descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression by using the SPSS program. Results: There were differences in the extent of burnout in nurses depending on their age, marital status, educational level, and religion. Burnout and occupational stress were positively correlated, whereas there was a negative correlation between burnout and hardiness. For the factors influencing nurses' burnout, occupational stress was identified to be most influential, followed by hardiness, total clinical career, religion, and working unit. Conclusion: To decrease burnout in nurses, there is a need for developing and deploying programs which can reduce their occupational stress and enhance hardiness.

Methods: The subjects of this study were 124 mothers with cerebral palsy children; the subjects were selected by convenience sampling. The collected data were processed by using the SPSS program and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation. Results: Parenting stress in mothers with cerebral palsy children was $91.84\pm20.75$, depression was $20.54\pm11.30$, and Yangsaeng was $92.77\pm15.79$ There was a positive relationship between parenting stress and depression. Parenting stress and depression were negatively related with Yangsaeng. Conclusions: The results suggest that Yangsaeng as an oriental health care regimen can lower the level of parenting stress and depression. In this regard, to promote a healthier life for mothers with cerebral palsy children, it would be beneficial to develop a nursing intervention program that incorporates the use of Yangsaeng.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a socioculturally-appropriate psychosocial intervention program for Korean patients with breast cancer and test its effects on stress, anxiety, depression, and coping strategies. Methods: One group pretest and posttest design was used to test the effects of the intervention. A post-intervention interview was conducted to refine the nature of the intervention. A convenience sample of 10 breast cancer survivors was recruited from the outpatients clinics. Psychosocial intervention was developed to provide the health education, stress management, coping skill training and support weekly(90min) for 6 weeks. Results: There was a significant decrease in stress scores following the intervention(Z= -2.388, p=0.017). However, no significant changes were noted in the use of problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies, nor in the changes of anxiety and depression levels. Content analysis of interview data revealed six clusters; changes in perception, changes in problem solving approaches, changes in anger management, changes in life pattern, social support and reduction of perceived stress. Conclusions: Based on quantitative and qualitative data, we recommend the refinements of the intervention in the following areas for future studies: 1) duration, activities, and progression of psychosocial intervention; 2) research design and sample size; and 3) measurements.

Methods: A non-equivalent pre-and post-test design was used. Sixty-six hospitalized patients were recruited using a convenience sampling method and assigned to the experimental (n=34) or the control group (n=32). For the experiment, bergamot, lavender, and roman camomile oil were mixed in 2:1:1 ratio to provide aroma hand massage to both hands of each patient in the experimental group for 5 minutes per hand, for 3 days. Post-test data collection was conducted three days after completion of the hand massage. Results: The experimental group had significantly lower stress score (t=-2.648, p=.010, and anxiety scores (t=-4.166, p=.000), and higher sleep measurement scores (t=2.328, p=.023) than those in the control group. Conclusion: These results indicate that short-term application of aroma hand massage for hospitalized elderly patients has a positive effect on hospitalization stress, anxiety, and sleep. Therefore, aroma hand massage should be applied as a nursing intervention to reduce stress response and enhance sleep in elderly hospitalized patients.
