Deterministic Multi-dimensional Task Scheduling Algorithms for Wearable Sensor Devices

  • In recent years, wearable sensor devices are reshaping the way people live, work, and play. A wearable sensor device is a computer that is subsumed into the personal space of the user, and is always on, and always accessible. Therefore, among the most salient aspects of a wearable sensor device should be a small form factor, long battery lifetime, and real-time characteristics. Thereby, sophisticated applications of a wearable sensor device use real-time operating systems to guarantee real-time deadlines. The deterministic multi-dimensional task scheduling algorithms are implemented on ARC (Actual Remote Control) with relatively limited hardware resources. ARC is a wearable wristwatch-type remote controller; it can also serve as a universal remote control, for various wearable sensor devices. In the proposed algorithms, there is no limit on the maximum number of task priorities, and the memory requirement can be dramatically reduced. Furthermore, regardless of the number of tasks, the complexity of the time and space of the proposed algorithms is O(1). A valuable contribution of this work is to guarantee real-time deadlines for wearable sensor devices.

  • This paper deals with the messages scheduling of a CAN (Controller Area Network), based on the distributed control scheme to integrate actuators and sensors in a humanoid robot. In order to supply the distributed processing for a humanoid robot, each control unit should have the efficient control method, fast calculation and valid data exchange. The preliminary study has concluded that the performance of CAN is better and easier to implement than other network such as FIP (Factory Instrumentation Protocol), VAN (Vehicle Area Network), etc. Since humanoid robot has to treat the significant control signals from many actuators and sensors, the communication time limitation could be critical according to the transmission speed and data length of CAN specification. In this paper, the CAN message scheduling in humanoid robot was suggested under the presence of Jitter in the message group, the existence of high load of messages over the network and the presence of transmission errors. In addition, the response time under the worst case is compared with the simulation by using the simulation algorithm. As a result, the suggested messages scheduling can guarantee our CAN limitation, and utilized to generate the walking patterns for the humanoid.

Design of Tower Damper Gain Scheduling Algorithm for Wind Turbine Tower Load Reduction (풍력터빈 타워 하중 저감을 위한 타워 댐퍼 게인 스케줄링 알고리즘 설계)

  • This paper deals with the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) 5-MW reference wind turbine. The controller which include MPPT (Maximum power point tracking) control algorithm and tower load reduction control algorithm was designed by MATLAB Simulink. This paper propose a tower damper algorithm to improve the existing tower damper algorithm. To improve the existing tower damper algorithm, proposed tower damper algorithm were applied the thrust sensitivity scheduling and PI control method. The thrust sensitivity scheduling was calculated by thrust force formula which include thrust coefficient table. Power and Tower root moment DEL (Damage Equivalent Load) was set as a performance index to verify the load reduction algorithm. The simulation were performed 600 seconds under the wind conditions of the NTM (Normal Turbulence Model), TI (Turbulence Intensity)16% and 12~25m/s average wind speed. The effect of the proposed tower damper algorithm is confirmed through PSD (Power Spectral Density). The proposed tower damper algorithm reduces the fore-aft moment DEL of the tower up to 6% than the existing tower damper algorithm.

A development methodology for heterarchical control of flexible manufacturing systems

  • This paper presents a methodology for development of a heterarchical control system in Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) environment. A Petri net based model is applied for development of control software. A real-time scheduling methodology for the heterarchical system is also developed and it is used as a software entity in the overall architecture. The partition of generic and specific modules in control software development is emphasized. The control system performs its control tasks in two stages: (1) generation of generic control code and distribution of them to each controller entity prior to system execution; (2) generation of specific control code according to job arrival and its process plan. The control software and the scheduling algorithm are evaluated by a simulation program.

  • In this study, we propose a shared storage system which is more efficient policy than MIS(Mixed Intermediate Storage) policy for relatively rare storage system and can be called CIS(Common Intermediate Storage) policy. Using this strategy, we develop a new completion time algorithm and apply it to two kinds of optimal or near optimal scheduling method; combinatorial search and simulated annealing method. We also extend this strategy to other storage policy, for example MIS policy, with PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) logic and on/off action of electronic valves. It thus can be accepted as a basic form of FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) for operating various storage policies. Finally we suggest the interlocking block to compansate for the shortcoming of CIS policy, i.e, complication of operation and safety, resulting in a basic batch process automation mode.

  • This work is concerned with the assignment of the desired eigenstructure for linear time-varying systems such as missiles, rockets, fighters, etc. Despite its well-known limitations, gain scheduling control appeared to be the focus of the research efforts. Scheduling of frozen-time, frozen-state controller for fast time-varying dynamics is known to be mathematically fallacious, and practically hazardous. Therefore, recent research efforts are being directed towards applying time-varying controllers. In this paper, ⅰ) we introduce a differential algebraic eigenvalue theory for linear time-varying systems, and ⅱ) we also propose an eigenstructure assignment scheme for linear time-varying systems via the differential Sylvester equation based upon the newly developed notions. The whole design procedure of the proposed eigenstructure assignment scheme is very systematic, and the scheme could be used to determine the stability of linear time-varying systems easily as well as provides a new horizon of designing controllers for the linear time-varying systems. The presented method is illustrated by a numerical example.

  • Input queueing is useful for high bandwidth switches and routers because of lower complexity and fewer circuits than output queueing. The input queueing switch, however, suffers HOL-Blocking, which limits the throughput to 58%. To get around this low throughput, many input queueing switches have centralized scheduler, which centralized scheduler restrict the design of the switch architecture. To overcome this problem, we propose a simple scheduler called PRR(Pipelined Round Robin), which is intrinsically distributed and presents to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheduling.

  • Recently, FlexRay was developed to replace controller area network (CAN) protocol in chassis networking systems, to remedy the shortage of transmission capacity and unsatisfactory real-time transmission delay of conventional CAN. FlexRay network systems require correct synchronization and complex scheduling parameters. However, because platform configuration register (PCR) setting and message scheduling is complex and bothersome task, FlexRay is more difficult to implement in applications than CAN protocol. To assist a network designer for implementing FlexRay cluster, this paper presents an analysis of FlexRay platform configuration register and automatic generation program of PCR. To demonstrate the feasibility of the automatic generation program, we evaluated its performance using experimental testbed.

  • 본 연구는 시스템의 신뢰도(reliability)를 향상시키기 위해 사용되는 이중(Duplex) 시스템에서 EMI(전자기파 간섭현상) 같은 원인에 의한 동시 발생적(coincident) 고장의 영향을 최소화하는 기법을 제안하고 신뢰성 있는 고성능 컴퓨터를 위한 운영체계 및 H/W 구조의 설계와 최적 평가에 기여하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이중 시스템에 동시 발생적 고장이 일어나면 두 개의 모듈이 고장의 영향을 받게 되므로 고장 포용능력을 상실하게 된다. 이 같은 영향을 최소화하기 위해서 같은 작업들을 가능한 한 다른 시간대로 중복 수행하도록 시퀀싱(sequencing) 및 스케줄링(scheduling) 함으로써 동시발생적 고장으로 야기되는 전체 작업의 고장 결과를 피할 수 있다 또한 실시간 시스템에서 작업들은 기본적으로 수행이 완료되어야 할 시간적 제약(hard deadline)을 지니고 있으므로. 이러한 엄격한 마감시한 내에서 모든 작업을 완수하고 기본조건을 만족시키고자 한다.

Monitoring and Scheduling Methods for MIMO-FIFO Systems Utilizing Max-Plus Linear Representation

  • This paper proposes an approach to monitoring and scheduling methods for repetitive MIMO-FIFO DESs. We use max-plus algebra for modeling and formulation, known as an effective approach for controller design for this type of system. Because a certain type of linear equations in max-plus algebra can represent the system's behavior, the principal concerns in past researches were how to solve the equations. However, the researches focused mainly on analyses of the relation between inputs and outputs of the system, which implies that the changes or the slacks of internal states were not clarified well. We first examine several properties of the corresponding state variables, which contribute to finding and tracing the float times in each process. Moreover, we provide a rescheduling method that can take into account delays or changes of the internal states. These methods would be useful in schedule control or progress management.
