Intelligent Tuning of the Two Degrees-of-Freedom Proportional-Integral-Derivative Controller On the Distributed Control System for Steam Temperature Control of Thermal Power Plant

  • In the thermal power plant, there are six manipulated variables: main steam flow, feedwater flow, fuel flow, air flow, spray flow, and gas recirculation flow. There are five controlled variables: generator output, main steam pressure, main steam temperature, exhaust gas density, and reheater steam temperature. Therefore, the thermal power plant control system is a multinput and output system. In the control system, the main steam temperature is typically regulated by the fuel flow rate and the spray flow rate, and the reheater steam temperature is regulated by the gas recirculation flow rate. However, strict control of the steam temperature must be maintained to avoid thermal stress. Maintaining the steam temperature can be difficult due to heating value variation to the fuel source, time delay changes in the main steam temperature versus changes in fuel flow rate, difficulty of control of the main steam temperature control and the reheater steam temperature control system owing to the dynamic response characteristics of changes in steam temperature and the reheater steam temperature, and the fluctuation of inner fluid water and steam flow rates during the load-following operation. Up to the present time, the Proportional-Integral-Derivative Controller has been used to operate this system. However, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal PID gain with no experience, since the gain of the PID controller has to be manually tuned by trial and error. This paper focuses on the characteristic comparison of the PID controller and the modified 2-DOF PID Controller (Two-Degrees-Freedom Proportional-Integral-Derivative) on the DCS (Distributed Control System). The method is to design an optimal controller that can be operated on the thermal generating plant in Seoul, Korea. The modified 2-DOF PID controller is designed to enable parameters to fit into the thermal plant during disturbances. To attain an optimal control method, transfer function and operating data from start-up, running, and stop procedures of the thermal plant have been acquired. Through this research, the stable range of a 2-DOF parameter for only this system could be found for the start-up procedure and this parameter could be used for the tuning problem. Also, this paper addressed whether an intelligent tuning method based on immune network algorithms can be used effectively in tuning these controllers.

  • In this paper, we present simulation results of Dynamic Matrix Control(DMC) to a boiler steam temperature. In order to control of steam temperature, we choose the input-output variables and generate the step response model by each input variable's step test. After that, the control structure executes on-line control with optimization using step response model. Proposed controller is applied to the APESS(Doosan company's boiler model simulator) and it is observed that the simulation results show satisfactory performance of proposed control.

  • Reheating furnace is a facility of heating up the billet to desired high temperature in the hot charge rolling process and it consists of 3 zones. Temperature control of reheating furnace is essential for successful rolling performance and high productivity. Mostly, temperature control is carried out using PID controller However, the PID control is not effective due to the nonlinearity of the reheating furnace(i.e, presence of the interference of neighboring zones and slow response of temperature etc.). In this paper, feedback linearization method is applied to obtain a linear model of the reheating furnace. Then, controller is designed using simple predictive control method. The effectiveness of this strategy is shown through simulations.

  • Injection molding has been widely used for the mass production of a plastic product. With the development of the relative technique, various injection molding techniques have been developed and we could get more precise plastic product. The temperature of a melting resin is an important factor in the injection molding and this temperature has direct influence on the quality of a plastic product. In the present injection molding machine, the deriation of a temperature controlled by PID control method is within 2$^{\circ}C$ in the injection molding machine but PID control method takes too much time to stabilize after preheating and its overshoot is so big. We applied fuzzy control to alleriate the problem. In this research, we experimented the fuzzy temperature control with the usage of PC based PLC.

  • This paper presents The performance analysis of inverter control type-industrial cooler with respect to refrigeration load and outdoor temperature. Aside from materials about simulations and foundation data regarding inverter control compressors, currently, data about commercial coolers with inverter control still lack information for performance comparison. Thus, in this paper, the experiments are done to see characteristics of condensation capacity, evaporation capacity, compressor power and COP with respect to outdoor temperature and load by using a commercial inverter control cooler model. As a result, COP difference of the inverter control cooler with respect to load is 30% at the outdoor temperature of $35^{\circ}C$, 29% at the outdoor temperature of $30^{\circ}C$, 34% at $25^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • In this paper, a LBCC (Latter Bank Cooling Control) for the high strength steel is proposed to obtain the desirable temperature and the property of the material along the longitudinal direction of the steel on the ROT (Run-Out Table) process. A cooling valve is modeled to analyze the response of the ROT banks. The control concept is derived from a field data, a valve model considering the valve response and a TTT (Time-Temperature Transformation) diagram. The proposed control is verified from the simulation results under the various carbon quantities. It is shown through the field test of the hot strip mill that the deviation of the CT (Coiling Temperature) is considerably decreased by the proposed temperature control.

  • This paper describes a system that can used to recognize an unknown material regardless of the change of ambient tem-perature using temperature response curve fitting and fuzzy neural network(FNN). There are some problems to realize the recogni-tion system using temperature response. It requires too many memories to store the vast temperature response data and it has to be filtered to remove noise which occurs in experiment. And the temperature response is influenced by the change of ambient tempera-ture. So, this paper proposes a practical method using curve fitting the remove above problems of memories and nose. And FNN is propose to overcome the problem caused by the change of ambient temperature. Using the FNN which is learned by temperature responses on fixed ambient temperature and known thermal conductivity, the thermal conductivity of the material can be inferred on various ambient temperature. So the material can be recognized by the thermal conductivity.

  • The thermoelectric device was applied to a car seat to control the hot temperature in the summer and cold temperature in the winter. The characteristics of the device used to a car seat were analyzed. The air conditioning structure was designed to regulate the hot side of the thermoelectric device. To control the temperature of the car seat, a robust control algorithm based on the sliding mode control was applied, and a controller using one-chip microprocessor was developed. The performance of the proposed controller through experiments was shown.

  • This document illustrates the way to control of coiling temperature(CTC) of stip tail part in minimill process. The coiling temperature (CT) is very important fact in hot rolling process because the mechnical properties of strip depend on it. In mini-mill pocess, the speed pattern of rolling is different from that of conventional hot rolling. We have a lot of difficulties in controlling the coiling temperature at strip tail part, because after the strip tail is passed out the final stand, it's impossible to control the coiling temperature by using coiling speed. So we have CT deveiation in this gauge, about 160$^{\circ}C$ below in comparison with target CT. It's clear that deviation of mechanical properties(tensile strength, vield ratio etc) of strip to direction of length is so large, so we could not produce middle carbon steel, like this temperature condition. New coiling temperature control of strip especially in strip tail was developed.   • The work presented here provides a control of the supply duct outlet air temperature in PEM (personal environment module) using fuzzy PID controller. In previous work, PID control systems were used, but the result shows that the outlet air temperature and electric heater regulating voltage were oscillated. Fuzzy PID control systems are designed to improve the system response obtained using PID control and implemented experimentally Also, PID controller and fuzzy controller without PID logic are provided to compare the result with that of the fuzzy PID controller. Data obtained shows that the fuzzy PID control system satisfies the design criteria and works proper1y in controlling the supply air temperature. Also it has bettor performance than the previous result obtained using PID control.
