A Control Strategy for Flywheel Energy Storage / Recovery System with Induction Machine (유도기를 이용한 플라이휠 에너지 저장 및 재생 시스템 제어 기법)

  • The paper proposed a control strategy for flywheel energy/recovery system with induction machine at the dynamic UPS system using the flywheel stored mechanical energy. The performances for the vector controlled induction generator are compared with those for the induction generator using slip control method. The strategy to improve the transient responses for dc link capacitor voltage is suggested at the transition from the motoring mode to the generating mode. The strategy Proposed by the paper is verified with experiment results using 32bit DSP.

  • In this paper, the diode bridge-type ZVT(Zero-Voltage Transition) inverter is proposed. It consists of one auxiliary switch, three resonant inductors and six blocking diodes. So, the advantage of the proposed topology is the reduction of the auxiliary switch. The topology of the proposed ZVT inverter is analyzed with a description of the control conditions based on the load current. Therefore, this paper two control algorithms were discussed. A variable resonant pattern control algorithm by using load current feedback and a resonant period control algorithm by using resonant inductor current feedback is proposed in order to achieve the ZVT switching condition in full control range and the reducing current spike main switches cause by reverse recovery problem.

  • Solar array simulator (SAS) is a special DC power supply that regulates the output voltage or current to emulate characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) panels. Especially, the control of SAS is a challenging task due to the nonlinearity in the output curve, which is dependent on irradiance as well as temperature and is determined by panel materials. Conventionally, both current-mode control and voltage-mode control should be alternated by partitioning the operating curve into multiple sections, which is not only for the measurement noise problem with the feedback sensing but also for the control stability issue near the maximum power point. However, the occurrence of transition among different controllers may deteriorate the overall performance. To eliminate the mode transitions, a novel single controller scheme has been introduced in this paper, where the reference operating projection technique enables simple, smooth and numerically stable control. Theoretical consideration on the loop stability issue is discussed and the performance is verified experimentally for the emulation of a PV panel data in view of stability and response speed.

  • This paper presents the method of determining state feedback gains of XPTOS for disk drive servomechanism based BESSEL filter prototype. A typical disk drive actuator can be modeled as second order dynamics for low frequencies. However, the response at higher frequencies shows resonant behavior which cannot be easily modeled. XPTOS consists of the nonlinear control region and the linear control region. In the linear control region, the poles of a second order nominal model of plant must be properly relocated by pole placement technique to attenuate resonant modes at high frequency and to attain minimum time state transition. It is difficult to select position to satisfy this object because velocity feedback gain is subjected to position feedback gain in XPTOS. Here poles of BESSEL filter prototype are selected to determine state feedback gains of XPTOS. Simulation results for disk drive servomechanism using XPTOS having state feedback gains by the proposed method are presented.

Control of Chaos Dynamics in Jordan Recurrent Neural Networks

  • We propose two control methods of the Lyapunov exponents for Jordan-type recurrent neural networks. Both the two methods are formulated by a gradient-based learning method. The first method is derived strictly from the definition of the Lyapunov exponents that are represented by the state transition of the recurrent networks. The first method can control the complete set of the exponents, called the Lyapunov spectrum, however, it is computationally expensive because of its inherent recursive way to calculate the changes of the network parameters. Also this recursive calculation causes an unstable control when, at least, one of the exponents is positive, such as the largest Lyapunov exponent in the recurrent networks with chaotic dynamics.   • This paper presents a novel survivor memeory management and decoding techniques with sequential backward state transition control in the trace back Viterbi decoder. The Viterbi algorithm is an maximum likelihood decoding scheme to estimate the likelihood of encoder state for channel error detection and correction. This scheme is applied to a broad range of digital communication such as intersymbol interference removing and channel equalization. In order to achieve the area-efficiency VLSI chip design with high throughput in the Viterbi decoder in which recursive operation is implied, more research is required to obtain a simple systematic parallel ACS architecture and surviver memory management. As a method of solution to the problem, this paper addresses a progressive decoding algorithm with sequential backward state transition control in the trace back Viterbi decoder. Compared to the conventional trace back decoding techniques, the required total memory can be greatly reduced in the proposed method. Furthermore, the proposed method can be implemented with a simple pipelined structure with systolic array type architecture. The implementation of the peripheral logic circuit for the control of memory access is not required, and memory access bandwidth can be reduced Therefore, the proposed method has characteristics of high area-efficiency and low power consumption with high throughput. Finally, the examples of decoding results for the received data with channel noise and application result are provided to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • Corporations operate within long term strategy. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) makes decisions and has responsibility for all executive activities which affects the corporate performance. If the CEO makes strategic choices through reasonable decision making, it could affect corporate performance and corporate's rise and fall. So the CEO's decision making is very important. As rapid change in the digital technology environment happened, through digital transition, corporations have been working on increasing corporate performance by practical and academic methods. However prior research was restricted to CEO's affect on organization, innovation or innovative activities and there is a lack of research linking CEO's characteristics to digital transition and corporate performance. As the digital age is coming, research on how CEO's characteristics affect digital transition and corporate performance is direly needed. From the case of domestic Big Data corporation RSN Co. ltd's digital transition success, understanding characteristics of CEO, digital transition and corporate performance through prior researches, and developing research model and research proposition was set. Research was performed on RSN co. ltd's case analysis, and how characteristics of CEO's matter on digital transformation and corporate performance. As a result of the proposition, when the CEO conjugates digital technology, the corporation was able to successfully complete digital transition and it also affects corporate performance. Also, this research's other point is that CEO's may have limits on thoughtful decision making. It is judged that it is necessary to try an empirical study in the future.

The Development and Effects of a Group Counseling Program for Adaptive College to Work Transition through Enhancing Coping Resources (대학-직장 이행을 위한 대처자원 향상 집단상담 프로그램 개발 및 효과성 검증)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the effectiveness of 'Coping Resources Improvement Program' designed for emerging adults experiencing psychosocial difficulties during college to work transition. Based on transition model of Scholossberg(1995), the program was developed to intervene in 4S (Situation, Self, Support, Strategy) required in the transition. Participants included 31 job applicants who are senior or above and were assigned to the experimental group (N=10), comparison group (N=10), and control group (N=11). Data to verify effectiveness were collected pre-, mid-, and post treatment. Results indicated that the level of coping resources and psychosocial difficulties in the transition changed significantly after the program and those changes were still maintained after a month in the experimental group. However, there were no statistically significant changes on job-search burnout and career-adaptability in all groups. The implication and limitation of the study and the suggestions for the future studies were discussed.

Traffic Signal Control Scheme for Traffic Detection System based on Wireless Sensor Network (무선 센서 네트워크 기반의 차량 검지 시스템을 위한 교통신호제어 기법)

  • A traffic detection system is a device that collects traffic information around an intersection. Most existing traffic detection systems provide very limited traffic information for signal control due to the restriction of vehicle detection area. A signal control scheme determines the transition among signal phases and the time that a phase lasts for. However, the existing signal control scheme do not resolve the traffic congestion effectively since they use restricted traffic information. In this paper, a new traffic detection system with a zone division signal control scheme is proposed to provide correct and detail traffic information and decrease the vehicle's waiting time at the intersection. The traffic detection system obtains traffic information in a way of vehicle-to-roadside communication between vehicles and sensor network. A new signal control scheme is built to exploit the sufficient traffic information provided by the proposed traffic detection system efficiently. Simulation results show that the proposed signal control scheme has 121 % and 56 % lower waiting time and delay time of vehicles at an intersection than other fuzzy signal control scheme.

Fuzzy Adaptive Traffic Signal Control of Urban Traffic Network (퍼지 적응제어를 통한 도시교차로망의 교통신호제어)

  • This paper presents a unique approach to urban traffic network signal control. This paper begins with an introduction to traffic control in general, and then goes on to describe the approach of fuzzy control, where the signal timing parameters at a given intersection are adjusted as functions of the local traffic network condition and adjacent intersection. The signal timing parameters evolve dynamically using only local information to improve traffic signal flow. The signal timing at an intersection is defined by three parameters : cycle time, phase split, off set. Fuzzy decision rules are used to adjust three parameters based only on local information. The amount of change in the timing parameters during each cycle is limited to a small fraction of the current parameters to ensure smooth transition. In this paper the effectiveness of this method is showed through simulation of the traffic signal flow in a network of controlled intersection.
