This study is aimed to compare the effect of visuo-perceptual biofeedback sitting balance training and conventional sitting balance training using Balance Master on stroke patients with that of program in order to analyze the effect it has on dynamic postural balance. The subjects are twenty-four stroke patients who are receiving physical therapy in Ilsan Paik Hospital and can maintain sitting posture by themselves. These patients were divided to control group and experimental group randomly. In order to compare to control and experimental group before and after the balance training, they were tested with Mann-Whitney U test and in order to compared the changes before and after the balance training, they were tested with Wilcoxon signed-ranks test. The results are as follows: we measured the ability of dynamic posture balance control with limit of stability(LOS) test and rhythmic weight shift test. There was an increasing improvement in the ability of dynamic posture balance control of the experimental group that had visuo-perceptual biofeedback sitting balance control training using the Balance Master(p<0.05, p<0.01). According to the results from above, compared to conventional sitting balance training programs, visuo-perceptual biofeedback sitting balance control training using the Balance Master is considered to be a more valuable therapy in balance control improvement and physical function improvement. It is considered that if the weak points are made up, the training with Balance Master will give help to stroke patients and to patients with balance control disabilities and will further more contribute to successful rehabilitation therapy.
This study examines changes in walking ability among patients with stroke after applying dual-task training under the condition of visual control and unstable supporting ground; the purpose is to provide reference data for selecting intervention methods that enhance the walking ability of patients with stroke. Among the patients with stroke who received rehabilitation treatment(at Rehabilitation Hospital B in Gyeonggi, South Korea from May 2014 to July 2014), 29 patients were selected as research subjects; all of them understood the purpose and contents of this research and agreed to participate in the experiment. The research subjects were divided into a visual control and unstable supporting ground dual-task(VUDT) group(10 patients), a visual control dual-task(VDT) group(10 patients), and an unstable supporting ground dual-task(UDT) group(9 patients); all of the subjects received 30-minute trainings, three times a week for a total of four weeks. A Timed-Up-and-Go(TUG) test was performed to investigate the change of walking function among the subjects, and a 10m walking test was conducted to measure their walking speed. According to the study results, all three groups showed significant differences after dual-task training; the dual-task training group under the condition of visual control and unstable supporting ground showed the most prominent change. This study confirmed that dual-task training using visual control and unstable supporting ground has a positive impact on the walking ability of patients with stroke. Through the study results, we found that implementing dual-task training under the condition of visual control and unstable supporting ground can more effectively improve the walking ability of patients with stroke, rather than performing visual control dual-task training or unstable supporting ground dual-task training only.
This study was tried to investigate the effectiveness of assertive training on the state anxiety and assertive behavior which nursing students had experienced during clinical practice training from April 29, to June 5, 2000. Subjects for this study were thirty-six nursing students of practicing in a general hospital. Eighteen nursing students were assigned for the experimental group and trained by assertive training program during 4 weeks and eighteen nursing students were assigned for the control group. The assertive training program was composed of cognitive, behavioral and emotional assertive training. Post- test assessment was administrated to all subjects on a week later after the last session. The data were analyzed with SPSS PC programs. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1) There were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group on post- intervention comparisons of the state anxiety score (p=0.230), but in the experimental group, the anxiety score more decreased after the assertive training than that in the control group with significant differences(p=0.019). 2) There were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group on post- intervention comparisons of assertive behavior (p=0.530). However, after the assertive training, the experimental group became more assertive than the control group with no significant differences(p=0.721). 3) The hypothesis that the more the assertive behavior, the less the state anxiety experienced by nursing students of clinical practice training was supported(r=-0.397, p=0.017). On the basis of this study results, the assertive training is effective for the reduction of the state anxiety experienced by nursing students of clinical practice training.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate which treadmill walking training mode is more effective strategy for improving pulmonary function of persons with chronic stroke. METHODS: Twenty-one chronic stroke patients were allocated and randomly to an experimental group (treadmill training with randomized speed control, n=11) and a control group (treadmill training without speed change, n=10). All participants received 30 minutes of neurodevelopmental treatment. In addition, the two groups performed treadmill training for 20 minutes each time with or without speed change. Speed change was applied 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% of Heart Rate Reserve. All the exercise programs lasted six weeks, with five times per week. Pulmonary function was assessed before and after exercise program by using forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV). RESULTS: In the both groups, FEV1 was significantly increased after training (p<.05). Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed 11.9% larger amount of change (p<.05). In the experimental group, FVC and MVV were significantly increased after training (9.9%, 7.6%, respectively) (p<.05). But in the control group, there was no significant difference in the FVC and MVV after training. CONCLUSION: Treadmill training with randomized speed control will be a better positive rehabilitation program than treadmill training without speed change to improve pulmonary function in persons with chronic stroke.
We propose a new early rehabilitation training system for postural control using a tilting bed and a force plate. The conventional rehabilitation systems for postural control cannot be applied to the patients lying in bed because the rehabilitation training using those systems is possible only when the patient can stand up by himself or herself. Moreover, there has not existed any device that could provide the sense of balance or the sensation of walking to the patients in bed. By using a tilting bed, a visual display, and a force plate, we have developed a new rehabilitation training system for balance control of the patients in bed providing sense of balance and the sensation of walking to the patient. Through the experiments with real people, we verified the effectiveness of the new early rehabilitation training system. The results showed that this system is an effective system for the early rehabilitation training and that our system might be useful as clinical equipment.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect on respiratory function, trunk control, and functional activities of daily living (ADL) through respiratory muscle strength training in patients with chronic stroke. Methods: Eighteen subjects who were six months post stroke participated in this study. The subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: experimental (n=10) and control (n=8). Both groups received physical therapy for five sessions, 30 minutes per week, during a period of six weeks. Subjects in the experimental group participated in an additional respiratory muscle strength training program, in which the threshold PEP device was used for 30 minutes per day, three days per week, during a period of six weeks. Results from pretest-posttest control were evaluated by pulmonary function forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume at one second (FEV1), FEV1/FVC, peak expiratory flow (PEF), capacity of cough, trunk control, and functional ADL. Results: Significant improvement in the FEV1, PEF of pulmonary function (p<0.05), cough function (p<0.05), and trunk control (p<0.05) was observed among the groups. Conclusion: Respiratory muscle strength training improves pulmonary function, capacity of cough, and trunk control. These results suggest that respiratory muscle strength training is feasible and suitable for individuals with chronic stroke.
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of postural control training using a visual blind board, on head control, trunk control, and the sitting abilities of children with moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy. METHODS: Ten children with moderate to severe cerebral palsy participated in this study. Postural control training with a visual blind board was given for 40 minutes per session, 3 times a week for 4 weeks (12 sessions). Before and after the intervention, head control, trunk control, and sitting abilities were quantified using the head control scale, Korean version-trunk control measurement scale, and the sitting part of the Korean version-gross motor function measure-88, respectively. RESULTS: Postural control with the visual blind board significantly improved the head control ability of children with moderate to severe cerebral palsy (p = .015). Their trunk control abilities also showed significant improvement after the intervention (p = .016). However, their sitting ability did not show a significant change. CONCLUSION: These results showed that postural control training using a visual blind board is effective in improving the head and trunk control abilities of children with cerebral palsy. Further studies with suitable sample sizes and control groups are needed to reach a conclusion about the use of postural control training with visual blind boards for improvement of postural control of children with moderate to severe cerebral palsy.
Control Chart is a powerful tool to detect that process is in control or out of control. CIM can have real effect when CIM involve automated quality control. A neural network approach is used for unnatural pattern detecting of control chart. The previous moving window method uses all unnatural pattern that is detected as moving time window. Therefore, It trains a large number of unnatural pattern and takes training time long. In this paper, the proposed method tests a small number of training unnatural pattern which modifies test data without repeating time. We shows that the proposed method has differences In training time and identification rate on the previous moving windows method. As results, we reduced training time and obtain the same identification rate.
Purpose : The aim of this study was to compare the effect of task-oriented training using the PNF(proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) and task-oriented training with chronic stroke patients. Methods : Sixteen chronic stroke patients participated. Participants were randomly assigned to the control and experimental group( 8 experimental, 8 control). All of participants were in-patients at local hospital and had been received training appropriate to the purpose of each group program.
