Abstract This paper proposes D++ programming language that is an extension of C++ for distributed object oriented programming. The D++, which supports peer-to-peer object model, provides new language constructs for the definition of distributed classes, the definition of the consistency control of the member function and the definition of distributed object variables with the persistent name. In D++, when the persistent name of a newly created distributed object is same as that of an existing distributed object, the new distributed object replicates object state of the existing distributed object and thus they share the object state. The replicas have peer relation and the consistency among them is maintained according to the characteristic described on the definition of designated member functions. It is expected that D++ language increases efficiency in development of real-time groupware because the distributed object model of D++ naturally supports the information sharing and event notification that are the basic functions required when building real-time groupware.

  • FMS is a distributed system composed of various programmable manufacturing hardware such as robots and NC machines. For the autonomous operation of such a system, an integrated software layer for the control and monitoring in needed on top of the manufacturing hardware. However, constructing and maintaining such a software layer is difficult due to the complexity of a underlying FMS and its frequently changing nature. To cope with this problem, this paper proposes an object-oriented FMS integration model, in which objects acting as virtual manufacturing cells are instantiated for each physical cell in the underlying object-oriented database. Various other entities involved in manufacturing processes and their relationship to the cell objects are also captured in the database. This paper describes the structure of this object-oriented FMS database on our prototype implementation called FREE.

  • When manipulator moves the objects, the object position error can be occurred because of acceleration or negative acceleration according to the direction. So we make manipulator working path for establishing optimal gripper force control preventing occurrence of object position error. And we attached the tactile sensor on the gripper of manipulator which gives us very specific information between manipulator and object. Reasoning of continuous tactile image data, manipulator can sense rotation and slippage and change the grasping force that corrects calculated grasping force and compensation can be possible of the object position error. We use the FSR(Force Sensing Resistor)sensor which consists of 22 by 22 taxels and continuous taxel number is used for filtering and using the moment method for sensing algorithm in our experiment.

  • A simple computer vision technology to measure the middle-ranged depth with a mono camera and a plain mirror is proposed. The proposed system is structured with the rotating mirror in front of the fixed mono camera. In contrast to the previous stereo vision system in which the disparity of the closer object is larger than that of the distant object, the pixel movement caused by the rotating mirror is bigger for the pixels of the distant object in the proposed system. Being inspired by such distinguished feature in the proposed system, the principle of the depth measurement based on the relation of the pixel movement and the distance of object is investigated. Also, the factors to influence the precision of the measurement are analysed. The benefits of the proposed system are low price and less chance of occlusion. The robustness for practical usage is an additional benefit of the proposed vision system.

  • This article describes the analysis of stable grasping for multi-fingered robot. An analysis method of stable grasping, which is based on the three-dimensional acceleration convex polytope, is proposed. This method is derived from combining dynamic equations governing object motion and robot motion, force relationship and acceleration relationship between robot fingers and object's gravity center through contact condition, and constraint equations for satisfying no-slip conditions at every contact points. After mapping no-slip condition to torque space, we derived intersected region of given torque bounds and the mapped region in torque space so that the intersected region in torque space guarantees no excessive torque as well as no-slip at the contact points. The intersected region in torque space is mapped to an acceleration convex polytope corresponding to the maximum acceleration boundaries which can be exerted by the robot fingers under the given individual bounds of each joints torque and without causing slip at the contacts. As will be shown through the analysis and examples, the stable grasping depends on the joint driving torque limits, the posture and the mass of robot fingers, the configuration and the mass of an object, the grasp position, the friction coefficients between the object surface and finger end-effectors.

  • To make a robust object tracking and identifying system for an intelligent robot and/or home system, heterogeneous sensor fusion between visible ray system and infrared ray system is proposed. The proposed system separates the object by combining the ROI (Region of Interest) estimated from two different images based on a heterogeneous sensor that consolidates the ordinary CCD camera and the IR (Infrared) camera. Human's body and face are detected in both images by using different algorithms, such as histogram, optical-flow, skin-color model and Haar model. Also the pose of human body is estimated from the result of body detection in IR image by using PCA algorithm along with AdaBoost algorithm. Then, the results from each detection algorithm are fused to extract the best detection result. To verify the heterogeneous sensor fusion system, few experiments were done in various environments. From the experimental results, the system seems to have good tracking and identification performance regardless of the environmental changes. The application area of the proposed system is not limited to robot or home system but the surveillance system and military system.

  • The segmentation of moving object in video sequence is a core technique of intelligent image processing system such as video surveillance, traffic monitoring and human tracking. A typical method to segment a moving region from the background is the background subtraction. The steps of background subtraction involve calculating a reference image, subtracting new frame from reference image and then thresholding the subtracted result. One of famous background modeling is Gaussian mixture model (GMM). Even though the method is known efficient and exact, GMM suffers from a problem that includes false pixels in ROI (region of interest), specifically shadow pixels. These false pixels cause fail of the post-processing tasks such as tracking and object recognition. This paper presents a method for removing false pixels included in ROT. First, we subdivide a ROI by using shape characteristics of detected objects. Then, a method is proposed to classify pixels from using histogram characteristic and comparing difference of energy that converts the color value of pixel into grayscale value, in order to estimate whether the pixels belong to moving object area or shadow area. The method is applied to real video sequence and the performance is verified.

  • Depth extraction using the structured illumination method is popularly applied since it has the benefit of measuring the object without contact. With multiple spatial frequencies and phase-shifting techniques, it is possible to extract the depth of objects with large discontinuity. For applications such as 3D (Three Dimensional) displays, 3D information of the object is required and is useful if corresponding to each view of the display. For this purpose, hypercentric optics is appropriate to measure the depth information of an object with a large field of view that is applicable for a 3D display. By experiment, we present the feasibility for phase-shifting profilometry using hypercentric optics to obtain the depth information of an object with the field of view appropriate for a 3D display.

  • This paper proposes an advanced visual tracking algorithm for the stable grasping of a moving target(2D). This algorithm is programmed to find grasping points of an unknown polygonal object and execute visual tracking. The Kalman Filter(KF) algorithm based on the SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) is applied to the visual tracking system for the tracking of a moving object. The KF based on the SVD improves the accuracy of the tracking and the robustness in the estimation of state variables and noise statistics. In addition, it does not have the numerical unstability problem that can occur in the visual tracking system based on Kalman filter. In the grasping system, a parameterized family is constructcd, and through the family, the grasping system finds the stable grasping points of an unknown object through the geometric properties of the parameterized family. In the previous studies, many researchers have been studied on only 'How to track a moving target'. This paper concern not only on 'how to track' but also 'how to grasp' and apply the grasping theory to a visual tracking system.

  • With the increase of social crime rate, the interest on the intelligent security system is also growing. This paper proposes a detection system of monitoring whether abnormal behavior is being carried in the images captured using CCTV. After detection of an object via subtraction from background image and morpholgy, this system extracts an abnormal behavior by each object's feature information and its trajectory. When an object is loitering for a while in CCTV images, this system considers the loitering as an abnormal behavior and sends the alarm signal to the control center to facilitate prevention in advance. Especially, this research aims at detecting a loitoring act among various abnormal behaviors and also extends to the detection whether an incoming object is identical to one of inactive objects out of image.
