Force holding control of a finger using piezoelectric actuators

  • A theoretical and experimental study is presented for the force holding control of a miniature robotic ringer which is driven by a pair of piezoelectric unimorph cells. In the theoretical analysis, one finger is modeled as a flexible cantilever with a tactile force sensor at the tip and the mate of the finger is a solid beam supposed with sufficient stiffness. Further, the force sensor is modeled by a one-degree-of-freedom, mass-spring system and the output of sensor is then described by the sensor stiffness multiplied by the relative displacement. The problem investigated in this paper is that two typical holding tasks of the human finger are picked up and applied to the robotic finger. One is the work holding a stationary object with a prescribed, time-varying force and the other one is to keep the contacted force constant even if the object is in motion. The simple PID feedback control scheme is used to control the minute gripping force of order 0.01 Newton. It is shown both experimentally and theoretically that the artificial finger with the piezoelectric actuator works well in the minute force holding of the tiny object.

  • For this study, the full-scale model of Chumsungdae was selected as an object, and various photographs were obtained with metric camera for forming circular strips and blocks. The accuracies were analyzed according to the change of object distance and different configuration of control points by bundle adjustment, and the characteristics of results obtained through combined strips were drawn. This thesis suggests optimal analysis technique of cylindrical structures requiring all-side analysis such as cultural properties. As a result, it is possible to use control points positioned on only any one-side for all-side analysis, and control configuration is more important rather than the number of control points for increasing accuracy. In addition, it is desirable to locate control points in X, Y and Z plane uniformly, and it was shown as object distance was shorten and the number of combined strips increases, the accuracy of results was improved considerably.

Development of Performance Evaluation Metrics of Concurrency Control in Object-Oriented Database Systems

  • Object-oriented databases (OODBs) canbe used for many non-traditional database application areas such as computer-aided design, etc. Usually those application areas require advanced modeling power for expressing complicated relationships among data sets. OODBs have more distinguished features than the traditional relational database systems. One of the distinguished characteristics of OODBs is class hierarchy (also called inheritance hierarchy). A class hierarchy in an OODB means that a class can hand down the definitions of the class to the subclass of the class. In other words, a class is allowed to inherit the definitions of the class from the superclass. In this paper, we present performance evaluation metrics for class hierarchy in OODBs from a concurrency control perspective. The proposed performance metrics are developed to determine which concurrency control scheme in OODBs can be used for a given class hierarchy. In this study, in order to develop performance metrics, we use class hierarchy structure (both of single inheritance and multiple inheritance), and data access frequency for each class. The proposed performance metrics will be also used to compare performance evaluation for various concurrency control techniques.

  • This paper present the control of the image disparity of a parallel stereo camera and its application to an underwater stereo camera to enhance the working efficiency of underwater vehicles that are equiped with manipulators in seabed operation. The stereo camera consists of two parallel lenses mounted on a lateral moving base and two CCD cameras mounted on a longitudinal moving base, which is embedded in a small pressure canister for underwater application. Because the lateral shift is related to the backward shift with a nonlinear relation, only one control input is needed to control the vergence and focus of the camera with a special driving device. We can get clear stereo vision with the camera for all the range of objects in air and in water, especially in short range object. The control system of the camera is so simple that we are able to realize a small stereo camera system and apply it to a stereo vision system for underwater vehicles. This paper also shows how to acquire the distance information of an underwater object with this stereo camera. Whenever we focus on an underwater object with the camera, we can obtain three-dimensional images and distance information in real-time.

  • IT security companies have been releasing file system filter driver security solutions based on the whitelist, which are being used by several enterprises in the relevant industries. However, in February 2019, a whitelist vulnerability was discovered in Microsoft Edge browser, which allows malicious code to be executed unknown to users. If a hacker had inserted a program that executed malicious code into the whitelist, it would have resulted in considerable damage. File system filter driver security solutions based on the whitelist are discretionary access control (DAC) models. Hence, the whitelist is vulnerable because it only considers the target subject to be accessed, without taking into account the access rights of the file target object. In this study, we propose an industrial device security system for Windows to address this vulnerability, which improves the security of the security policy by determining not only the access rights of the subject but also those of the object through the application of the mandatory access control (MAC) policy in the Windows industrial operating system. The access control method does not base the security policy on the whitelist; instead, by investigating the setting of the security policy not only for the subject but also the object, we propose a method that provides improved stability, compared to the conventional whitelist method.

Suggestion of Healthcare Home Service System Based on Distributed Object Group Framework (분산객체그룹 프레임워크 기반의 헬스케어 홈 서비스 시스템의 제안)

  • This paper suggests a healthcare home service system based on the distributed object group framework that can not only provide healthcare application services using the information obtained from the physical healthcare sensors and devices, and but also monitor and control these services remotely. The distributed object group framework supports the object group service, the interaction service between object groups and the real-time service in order to execute the healthcare application. Here object group means the unit of logical grouped objects or healthcare sensors and devices for a service. Our suggested system consists of 3 layers. The first layer presents the physical sensors and devices for healthcare, as a physical layer. The second layer lays the distributed object group framework, and the third layer, the upper's one, implements healthcare applications based on lower layers. With healthcare applications providing for this system, we implemented the location tracking service, the health information service and the titrating environment service. Also the integrated executing results of these services can be monitored and controlled via remote desktop systems or PDAs.

Object Detection and Post-processing of LNGC CCS Scaffolding System using 3D Point Cloud Based on Deep Learning (딥러닝 기반 LNGC 화물창 스캐닝 점군 데이터의 비계 시스템 객체 탐지 및 후처리)

  • Recently, quality control of the Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier (LNGC) cargo hold and block-erection interference areas using 3D scanners have been performed, focusing on large shipyards and the international association of classification societies. In this study, as a part of the research on LNGC cargo hold quality management advancement, a study on deep-learning-based scaffolding system 3D point cloud object detection and post-processing were conducted using a LNGC cargo hold 3D point cloud. The scaffolding system point cloud object detection is based on the PointNet deep learning architecture that detects objects using point clouds, achieving 70% prediction accuracy. In addition, the possibility of improving the accuracy of object detection through parameter adjustment is confirmed, and the standard of Intersection over Union (IoU), an index for determining whether the object is the same, is achieved. To avoid the manual post-processing work, the object detection architecture allows automatic task performance and can achieve stable prediction accuracy through supplementation and improvement of learning data. In the future, an improved study will be conducted on not only the flat surface of the LNGC cargo hold but also complex systems such as curved surfaces, and the results are expected to be applicable in process progress automation rate monitoring and ship quality control.

Combined Optimal Design of Robust Control System and Structure System for Truss Structure with Collocated Sensors and Actuators

  • A control-structure combined optimal design problem is discussed taking a 3-D truss structure as a design object. We use descriptor forms for a controlled object and a generalized plant because the structural parameters appear naturally in these farms. We consider not only minimum weight design problem for structure system, but also suppression problem of the effect of disturbances for control system as the purpose of the design. A numerical example shows the validity of combined optimal design of structure and control systems. We also consider the validity of sensor-actuator collocation for control system design in this paper.

  • In the networked control system (NCS), the uncertain network-induced delay and nonlinear controlled object are the main problems, because they can degrade the performance of the control system and even destabilize it. In this paper, a class of uncertain and nonlinear networked control systems is discussed and its sufficient condition for the robust asymptotic stability is presented. Further, the maximum network-induced delay that insures the system stability is obtained. The Lyapunov and LMI theorems are employed to investigate the problem. The result of an illustrative example shows that the robust stability analysis is sufficient.

  • RBAC(Role Based Access Control) is an access control method based on the user's roles and it provides more flexibility and applicability on the various computer and network security fields than DAC(Discretionary Access Control) or MAC(Mandator Access Control). In this paper, e newly propose ERBAC\ulcorner(Extended RBAC\ulcorner) model by considering subject's and object's roles and security levels for roles additionally to RBAC\ulcorner model which is firstly proposed by Ravi S. Sandhu as a base model. The proposed ERBAC\ulcorner model provides finer grained access control with multilevel security on he base of subject and object level than RBAC\ulcorner model.
