  • A new feedback control law is proposed and tested for suppressing the vortex shedding from a circular cylinder in a uniform flow. The lift coefficient ( $C_{L}$) is employed as a feedback control signal and the control forcing is given by a rotational oscillation of the cylinder. The influence of the feedback transfer function on the $C_{L}$ reduction is examined. The main rationale of the feedback control is that a feedback control forcing is imposed at a phase which is located outside the range of lock-on. By applying the feedback control law, $C_{L}$ is reduced significantly. Furthermore, the reduction mechanism of $C_{L}$ is analyzed by showing the vortex formation modes with respect to the forcing phase.e.ase.e.

  • In this paper, a self tuning control algorithm is proposed for the high performance drive of DC servo motor, which is adequate to the servo system having frequent load variation. In order to realization of the algorithm, the control system is developed using a fixed point high speed digital signal processor. TMS320C25. Control algorithm is composed of two parts. One is estimation law part using recursive least mean square method, the other is control law part using minimum variance control method. For the purpose of easiness of applying adaptive algorithm, developed control system is based o PC-DSP structure which can develop, debug programs and monitor the dynamic behaviors, etc. Through computer simulation and experimental results, it was verified that proposed control system could estimate system parameters and was robust to the variation of the load and as a result, was adequate to the servo motor drives.

  • KOMPSAT is a three-axis stabilized light weight satellite, and one of the main mission objectives of the KOMPSAT is to conduct scientific and technological analysis in the areas of high resolution imaging and ocean color imaging. This kind of mission requires the satellite to roll up to 45 degrees. Bang-bang control for this rolling maneuver may activate the flexible modes, and therefore cause satellite pointing performance degradation. To deal with this problem, the roll attitude control system, especially for the science mode and maneuver mode of the KOMPSAT, is first verified by numerical simulation. And the open-loop control law for roll maneuver is proposed by use of series expansion and optimization. The proposed control law is applied to KOMPSAT to see its effectiveness.

  • In this paper, in order to control uncertain chaotic system, an adaptive fuzzy control(AFC) scheme is developed for the multi-input/multi-output plants represented by the Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy models. The proposed AFC scheme provides robust tracking of a desired signal for the T-S fuzzy systems with uncertain parameters. The developed control law and adaptive law guarantee the boundedness of all signals in the closed-loop system. In addition, the chaotic state tracks the state of the stable reference model(SRM) asymptotically with time for any bounded reference input signal. The suggested AFC design technique is applied for the control of an uncertain Lorenz system based on T-S fuzzy model such as stabilization, synchronization and chaotic model following control(CMFC).

  • In this paper, a control law based on the receding horizon concept which robustly stabilizes time-varying discrete linear systems, is proposed. A dynamic game problem minimizing the worst case performance, is adopted as an optimization problem which should be resolved at every current time. The objective of the proposed control law is to guarantee the closed loop stability and the infinite horizon $H^{\infty}$ norm bound. It is shown that the objective can be achieved by selecting the proper terminal weighting matrices which satisfy the inequality conditions proposed in this paper. An example is included to illustrate the results..

  • A throttle/brake control law for the intelligent cruise control(ICC) systems has been proposed in this paper. The ICC system consists of a vehicle detection sensor, the control algorithm and a throttle/brake actuators. For the control of a throttle/brake system, we introduced a solenoid-valve-controlled electronic vacuum booster and a step-motor controlled throttle actuator. Nonlinear computer model for the electronic vacuum booster has been developed and the simulations were per formed using a complete nonlinear vehicle model. The results indicate the proposed throttle/brake control law can provide the ICC system with an optimized performance.

  • In this paper, the theoretical development to stabilize a class of uncertain time-delay systems via sliding mode control is presented. The system under consideration is described in state space model containing state delay, uncertain parameters and disturbance. The main idea is to reduce the state of delayed system, by employing the generalize linear transformation, into an equivalent one with no delay inside, which is easier to analyze its behavior and stability. Then, the sliding control approach is employed to find the stabilizing control law. Finally, a numerical simulation is illustrated to show the algorithm for applying the proposed theorems and the efffetiveness of the designed control law in stabilizing the controlled systems.

  • We proposed the above-knee prosthesis using rotary MR damper in which knee joint is semi-actively controlled by microprocessor. Dissipation torque in the knee joint can be controlled by the magnetic field which is induced by applying current to a solenoid, Tracking control of knee joint angle was tested by 3-DOF Leg simulator. The experimental results show that the proposed above-knee prosthesis system had good performance in swing phase tracking and repetitive controller in conjunction with a computed control law and PD control law, reduced RMS tracking error as the repetitions of tracking. Moreover, desired knee angle trajectory was generated based on the estimation of gait period with the gyro signal and the tracking control was performed.

  • Slewing maneuver and vibration suppression control of flexible spacecraft model by Lyapunov stability theory are considered. The specific model considered in this paper consists of a rigid hub with an elastic appendage attached to the central hub and tip mass. Attitude control to point and stabilize single axis using reaction wheel type device is tested. To control all flexible modes is so critical to designing an active control law. We therefore considered an direct output feeback control design by using Lyapunov stability theory. It is shown that the ouput feedback control law design with proposed configuration gives satisfactory result in slewing performance and vibration suppression control.

  • A new method for the design of predictive controllers for SISO systems is presented. The proposed technique allows uncertainties and constraints to be concluded in the design of the control law. The goal is to design, at each sample instant, a predictive feedback control law that minimizes a performance measure and guarantees of constraints are satisfied for a set of models that describes the system to be controlled. The predictive controller consists of a finite horizon parametric-optimization problem with an additional constraint over the manipulated variable behavior. This is an end-constraint based approach that ensures the exponential stability of the closed-loop system. The inclusion of this additional constraint, in the on-line optimization algorithm, enables robust stability properties to be demonstrated for the closed-loop system. This is the case even though constraints and disturbances are present. Finally, simulation results are presented using a nonlinear continuous stirred tank reactor model.
