Boundary Control of Container Crane;Two-Stage Control of a Container Crane as Nonflexible and Flexible Cable

  • In this paper, we proposed a two-stage control of the container crane. The first stage control is time-optimal control for the purpose of fast trolley traveling. With suitable trolley velocity patterns, the sway which is generated during trolley moving is minimized. At the second stage control feedback control law is investigated for the quick suppression of residual vibration after the trolley motion. For more practical system, the container crane system is modeled as a partial differential equation (PDE) system with flexible cable. The dynamics of the cable is derived as a moving system with tension caused by payload using Hamilton's principle for the systems. A control law based upon the Lyapunov's method is derived. It is revealed that a time-varying control force and a suitable passive damping at the actuator can successfully suppress the transverse vibrations.

  • English law accepts the basic principle of freedom of contract that the parties should be free to agree on any terms that they like unless their agreement is illegal or otherwise contrary to public policy because it infringes some public interest. On the other hand, it has been limited for hundreds of years on the basis that certain contract terms, particularly in standard form, may alter a distribution of risks that the customer would reasonably intended. The alteration may often result from his simple ignorance caused by either lack of opportunity to become aware of clauses or inability to understand their full potential implications. In addition, it may also result from disparity in bargaining power which does not allow the customer to look after their own interests even if he is fully aware of the unacceptable clauses. In response to this problem, English law has employed both judicial and statutory intervention techniques to control unfair contract terms. This study describes and analyzes in detail how English law regulates such terms, particularly, in standard form, in order to provide legal advice to our sellers residing either in UK or in Korea who plan to enter into UK markets. It also attempts to explore any problem in the existing double legislations of UCTA and UTCCR and put forward future direction of English law in light of the Draft Unfair Terms Bill which was currently proposed by the Law Commissioners. The main concern of this paper will be confined to some of the various aspects of both judicial and statutory control of unfair contract terms in English law which may draw our attention in terms of domestic or international business sales.

  • In this paper, for the fuzzy-reaching law method which has the characteristic of elimination of chattering at sliding mode as well as the characteristic of fast response at the design of variable structure controller with reaching law, optimal solutions for the determination of parameters of fuzzy membership functions by using genetic algorithm are proposed. Generally, the design of fuzzy controller has difficulties in determining the parameters of fuzzy membership functions by using a tedious trial-and-error process. To overcome these difficulties, this paper develops genetic algorithm of an optimal searching method based on genetic operation, and to verify the validity of this proposed method it is simulated through 2 link robot manipulator.

  • Geometric singularity problems are principle difficulties of single-gimbal control moment gyros in spacecraft attitude control. To overcome these singularities, many steering logics have been studied. In this paper, a new null motion steering law is suggested, which is based on the minimization of the directional components of output torque with respect to the required torque. The suggested steering law has been simulated and verified to work well around several critical singular points which have been classified as testing points of avoidance algorithm in previous literatures.

  • In this paper, we present the new PI-type VSC(variable structure control). In general, conventional VSCs with a discontinuous reaching law have a chattering problem, and with a PI-type reaching law have a slow reaching speed characteristic. To solve this problem, we propose the reaching law consists of a discontinuous and a PI-type reaching law to obtain a high speed reaching mode and a non-chattering characteristic at the same time. Simulation results show the effectiveness of a proposed scheme.

  • In this study a practical guidance law for missile guidance loop is established by considering the missile dynamics. Assuming the attitude controlled missile, several optimal guidance laws according to missile dynamical characteristics are derived by applying the optimal control theory and an effective guidance law in practical point is presented.

  • In the previous paper, we presented a new guidance law for a missile during boost phase. Thus, this paper deals with the guidance law for a missile after the thrust cutoff against an accelerating and turning target. It is essentially based on the concept of proportional navigation. Some simulation studies were performed using a three dimensional mathematical model of an air-to-air missile and the effectiveness of the guidance law presented was shown.

  • In this paper, the optimal homing guidance problem is investigated for the general missile/target models described in the state-space. The closed-form solution of the optimal guidance law derived, and its asymptotic properties are studied as the time-to-go goes to infinity or zero. Futhermore, several approximate solutions of the optimal guidance law are suggested for real-time applications.

  • Waypoint guidance is a technique used to steer an autonomous vehicle along a desired trajectory. In this paper, a waypoint guidance algorithm for horizontal plane is derived by combining a line following guidance law and a turning guidance law. The line following guidance is derived based on LQR while the turning guidance is designed using rendzvous problem. Through simulation, the proposed method shows a good performance.

  • In this paper, we apply sliding control law to a nonlinear electro-hydraulic suspension system. The force the actuator must track is determined by the skyhook control law and the desired force value varies according to the road situation. The road frequencies can inform us of the current road situation. Detecting the road frequencies, we use the Fourier Transform.
