Adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control of seismically excited structures

  • In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller (AFSMC) is designed to reduce dynamic responses of seismically excited structures. In the conventional sliding mode control (SMC), direct implementation of switching-type control law leads to chattering phenomenon which may excite unmodeled high frequency dynamics and may cause vibration in control force. Attenuation of chattering and its harmful effects are done by using fuzzy controller to approximate discontinuous part of the sliding mode control law. In order to prevent time-consuming obtaining of membership functions and reduce complexity of the fuzzy rule bases, adaptive law based on Lyapunov function is designed. To demonstrate the performance of AFSMC method and to compare with that of SMC and fuzzy control, a linear three-story scaled building is investigated for numerical simulation based on the proposed method. The results indicate satisfactory performance of the proposed method superior to those of SMC and fuzzy control.

  • In this paper, A new PI-type reaching law for variable structure control is proposed to alleviate the chattering and improve the robustness properties in the presence of matched uncertainty. The proposed reaching law consists of a proportional term and an integral term. And the dynamics of switching function can easily be specified by using the second-order system analysis method. And also the proposed scheme has the advantages of alleviating the chattering than Gao's one and reducing the influence of uncertainties by band pass filter characteristic. The efficiency of the proposed method has been demonstrated by simulations for Dutch Roll damping in a light aircraft.

  • In this paper we propose a control law using a Lyapunov-like function that makes stable the systems which have mis-matched uncertainties. The existing control law using a Lyapunov-like function, which gives global saymptotic stability, is designed under the assumption of a targetsystem to be stable locally. But we broaden here the class of target systems by designing the control law which can give uniform ultimate boundedness to even the systems not satisfing the locally asymptotic stability. And we also show that the control law giving global asymptotic stability can be designed more systematically through using the uniform ultimate boundedness.

  • According to building law, there are only regulations on the fire prevention compartments that can perform the function of partial smoke compartment, but the building law management of the smoke compartment for effective smoke diffusion prevention and control is not possible. The lack of control on the smoke compartment such as leakage rate on the penetrating part, and the lack of leakage rate in the design of smoke control of fire safety law resulted in the absence of fundamental safety technology. Therefore, this study seeks to find solutions to domestic problems after reviewing relevant domestic laws and regulations.

  • This study describe a new method to control posture and velocity for a wheeled mobile robot using visual feedback control method with a position based visual feedback. To slove the problem of vibration phenomena which were shown in the previous researches using a simple switching function based on a threshold, the proposed visual servo control law introduces the fusion function based on a blending function. The chattering problem and rapid motion of the mobile robot can be eliminated. And we consider the nonlinearity of the wheeled mobile robot unlike the previous visual servo control laws using linear control methods to improve the performances of the visual servo control law. The proposed posture control law using visual servoing is verified by a theoretical analysis and simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, the performance of a semi-active suspension system for a passenger car has been investigated. Alternative semi-active suspensions control laws has been compared via simulations. The control laws investigated in this study are : sprung mass velocity feedback control law, sky-hook damping control law, and state feedback control law. Simulation results show that a semi-active suspension has potential to improve ride quality of automobiles.

  • A hybrid control method based on the relative motion between a manipulator and a workpiece is described for a two-dimensional manipulator, in which it is assumed that there are no collisions between the robot manipulator and the workpiece, and that we use a computed force law which is similar to the computed torque law in the trajectory tracking problem of a robot manipulator. The effectiveness of the proposed hybrid control method is illustrated through several simulations.

  • Modem version of supersonic jet fighter aircraft must have been guaranteed appropriate controllability and stability in HAoA(High Angle of Attack). Limit value of aircraft entering into the departure in HAoA is related to aircraft configuration design. But, the control law such as AoA and yaw-rate limiter is implemented in digital Fly-By-Wire flight control system of supersonic jet fighter to guarantee the aircraft's safety in HAoA. The HAoA flight control law have two parts, one is control law of departure prevention and the other is control law of departure recovery support. The control laws of departure prevention for advanced jet trainer consist AoA limiter, roll command limiter and rudder fader. The control laws of departure recovery support are consist yaw-rate limiter and MPO(Manual Pitch Override) mode. The guideline of pitch rocking using MPO mode is simple, but operating skill of pitch rocking is very difficult by the pilot with inexperience of departure situation. This paper addresses the design and validation of APR(Automatic Pitch Rocker) control law instead of MPO in order to automatic recovery without manual pitch rocking by the pilot. And, recovery characteristic with APR verifies by the nonlinear analysis and pilot evaluation.

  • In this paper, a moving horizon control algorithm, which can be applied for a wide class of nonlinear systems with control and state constraints, is considered. In a neighborhood of the origin, a linear feedback controller is applied. Outside this neighborhood, a moving horizon control law is applied. The time taken to solve an optimal control problem is considered in the algorithm so that the proposed control law can be applied as an on-line controller.

A non-linear tracking control scheme for an under-actuated autonomous underwater robotic vehicle

  • This paper proposes a model based trajectory tracking control scheme for under-actuated underwater robotic vehicles. The difficulty in stabilizing a non-linear system using smooth static state feedback law means that the design of a feedback controller for an under-actuated system is somewhat challenging. A necessary condition for the asymptotic stability of an under-actuated vehicle about a single equilibrium is that its gravitational field has nonzero elements corresponding to non-actuated dynamics. To overcome this condition, we propose a continuous time-varying control law based on the direct estimation of vehicle dynamic variables such as inertia, damping and Coriolis & centripetal terms. This can work satisfactorily under commonly encountered uncertainties such as an ocean current and parameter variations. The proposed control law cancels the non-linearities in the vehicle dynamics by introducing non-linear elements in the input side. Knowledge of the bounds on uncertain terms is not required and it is conceptually simple and easy to implement. The controller parameter values are designed using the Taguchi robust design approach and the control law is verified analytically to be robust under uncertainties, including external disturbances and current. A comparison of the controller performance with that of a linear proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and sliding mode controller are also provided.
