In this paper, we propose a paper keyboard piano implementation using the finger movement detection with the 3D image data from a kinect. Keyboard pattern and keyboard depth information are extracted from the color image and depth image to detect the touch event on the paper keyboard and to identify the touched key. Hand region detection error is unavoidable when using the simple comparison method between input depth image and background depth image, and this error is critical in key touch detection. Skin color is used to minimize the error. And finger tips are detected using contour detection with area limit and convex hull. Finally decision of key touch is carried out with the keyboard pattern information at the finger tip position. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can detect key touch with high accuracy. Paper keyboard piano can be utilized for the easy and convenient interface for the beginner to learn playing piano with the PC-based learning software.
PET allows non-invasive, quantitative and repetitive imaging of biological function in living animals. Small animal PET imaging with $[^{18}F]$FDG has been successfully applied to investigation of metabolism, receptor-ligand interactions, gene expression, adoptive cell therapy and somatic gene therapy. Experimental condition of animal handling impacts on the biodistribution of $[^{18}F]$FDG in small animal study. The small animal PET and CT images were registered using the hardware fiducial markers and small animal contour point. Tumor imaging in small animal with small animal $[^{18}F]$FDG PET should be considered fasting, warming, and isoflurane anesthesia level. Registered imaging with small animal PET and CT image could be useful for the detection of tumor. Small animal experimental condition of animal handling and registration method will be of most importance for small lesion detection of metastases tumor model.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is researching for possibility that Moire topography be applied in group school screening for scoliosis known school health problem, and find acceptable method of early detection and early treatment for scoliosis Methods : The authors practiced Moire topography for primary & middle school 1,895 students[male 976, female 919] in Jeonju, korea in 2001. After we distinguished students who had abnormal finding in Moire topography and then re-examined spinal X-ray analysis. The data was analysed and evaluated statistically Results : According to this research, the abnormal finding in Moire topography was 53.7% (1,018 students), and students needed X-ray re-examination were 11.2% (213 students). Students diagnosed scoliosis by X-ray re-examination were 1.8%. According to statistical analysis, interval between vertical base line of pelvis and vertical base line of neck, gap between left distance and right distance to the vertical base line of pelvis and difference of contour lines have strong correlations with deformity degree of the body surface examined by Moire. Conclusions : Following this research, throughout early detection for scoliosis by Moire topography could reduce exposure from scoliosis radiographs, and could detect trunk asymmetry that couldn't be found existing X-ray examination, so it made selecting students under observation who have bad posture possible.
Feature detection is important in various mesh processing techniques, such as mesh editing, mesh morphing, mesh compression, and mesh signal processing. In this paper, we propose a geometric snake as an interactive tool for feature detection on a 3D triangular mesh. A geometric snake is an extension of an image snake, which is an active contour model that slithers from its initial position specified by the user to a nearby feature while minimizing an energy functional. To constrain the movement of a geometric snake onto the surface of a mesh, we use the parameterization of the surrounding region of a geometric snake. Although the definition of a feature may vary among applications, we use the normal changes of faces to detect features on a mesh.
The image processing technique is very sensitive to the variation of external environment, so it tends to lose a lot of accuracy when the external environment changes rapidly. In this paper, we propose a vehicle detecting and tracking system for crime prevention suitable for an external environments with various changes using the image processing technique. Because the vehicle camera detector for crime prevention extracts and tracks the vehicle within one lane, it is important to classify a characteristic region rather than the contour of a vehicle. The proposed system detects the entrance of the vehicle using optical flow and tracks the vehicle by classifying the headlights, the bonnet, the front-window and the roof area of the vehicle. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to the environmental changes such as type, speed and time of a vehicle.

Recently many studies of Radar systems mounted on ground vehicles for autonomous driving, SLAM (Simultaneous localization and mapping) and collision avoidance have been reported. Since several pixels per an object may be generated in a close-range radar application, a width of an object can be estimated automatically by various signal processing techniques. In this paper, we tried to attempt to develop an algorithm to estimate obstacle width using Radar images. The proposed method consists of 5 steps - 1) background clutter reduction, 2) local peak pixel detection, 3) region growing, 4) contour extraction and 5)width calculation. For the performance validation of our method, we performed the test width estimation using a real data of two cars acquired by commercial radar system - I200 manufactured by Navtech. As a result, we verified that the proposed method can estimate the widths of targets.

This paper proposes a new algorithm for detecting and recognizing overlapped objects among a stack of arbitrarily located objects using a signature representation scheme. The proposed algorithm consists of two processes of detecting overlap of objects and of determining the boundary between overlapping objects. To determine overlap of objects, in the first step, the edge image of object region is extracted and those areas in the object region are considered as the object areas if an area is surrounded by a closed edge. For each object, its signature image is constructed by measuring the distances of those edge points from the center of the object, along the angle axis, which are located at every angle with reference to the center of the object. When an object is not overlapped, its features which consist of the positions and angles of outstanding points in the signature are searched in the database to find its corresponding model. When an object is overlapped, its features are partially matched with those object models among which the best matching model is selected as the corresponding model. The boundary among the overlapping objects is determined by projecting the signature to the original image. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested with the task of picking the top or non-overlapped object from a stack of arbitrarily located objects. In the experiment, a recognition rate of 98% has been achieved.

In this paper, we propose a flew edge detection method based on water flow model, in which gradient image surface is considered as a 3-dimensional (3-D) geographical feature. The edges of the objects in the background can be detected by the large gradient magnitude areas and to make the edges immersed it is required to invert the gradient image. The proposed edge detector uses a water flow model based enhancement and locally adaptive thresholding technique applied to the inverted gradient image resulting in better noise performance. Computer simulations with a few synthetic and real images show that the Proposed method can extract edge contour effectively.

In this paper we propose an real time marker detection algorithm for motion analysis both in 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions with CCD camera and rfame grabber only which has no image processor. The main algorithm consists of the following 3 algorithms; 1) the tracing algorithm that makes it possible to predict the expected marker location by narrowing the searching boundary, 2) the searching algorithm that detects the marker in the expected boundary using Ad-hoc previous screen search technique, tornado search method rotate diagonal search method search technique, 3) the algorithm that finds the central point of the detected marker. We try to narrow the searching boundary for real time processing. Also, it is able to find the central point of the detected marker much faster than typical contour tracing algorithm.

The urinalysis, which is universally accessible to the general public, has disadvantages of being less objective using sight and purchasing a separate portable urinalysis machine. However, due to the high penetration rate and performance improvement of smartphone created by the development of mobile communication technology, research on urinalysis services using smartphone has been conducted. In this paper, a new urinalysis screening application based on smartphone was developed by supplementing the limitations of the previously studied urinalysis services. The key technology of the application is urinalysis recognition algorithm and urinalysis pad color determination algorithm through image-processing and contour detection. In order to confirm the performance of the developed application, urinalysis strip was photographed and analyzed from various backgrounds and angles.
