Continuous 와 pattern slot 코팅 공정에서의 유동특성과 다이 설계 (Dynamics and die design in continuous and patch slot coating processes)

  • Slot coating process, in continuous and patch modes, has been applied for the many precise coating products, e.g., flat panel displays and second batteries. However, manufacturing uniform coating products is not a trivial task at high-speed operations because various flow instabilities or defects such as leaking, bubbles, ribbing, and rivulets are frequently observed in this process. It is no wonder, therefore, that many efforts to understand the various aspects of dynamics and coating windows of this process have been made both in academia and industry. In this study, as the first topic, flow dynamics within the coating bead in slot coating process has been investigated using the one-dimensional viscocapillary model by lubrication approximation and two-dimensional model by Flow-3D software. Especially, operability windows in both 1D and 2D cases with various slot die lip designs have been successfully portrayed. Also, effects of process conditions like viscosity and coating gap size on slot coating window have been analyzed. Also, some experiments to find minimum coating thickness and coating windows have been conducted using slot die coater implemented with flow visualization device, corroborating the numerical results. As the second topic, flow dynamics of both Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids in patch or pattern slot coating process, which is employed in manufacturing IT products such as secondary batteries, has been investigated for the purpose of optimal process designs. As a matter of fact, the flow control in this system is more difficult than in continuous case because od its transient or time-dependent nature. The internal die and die lip designs for patterned uniform coating products have been obtained by controlling flow behaviors of coating liquids issuing from slot. Numerical simulations have been performed using Fluent and Flow-3D packages. Flow behavior and pressure distribution inside the slot die has been compared with various die internal shapes and geometries. In the coating bead region, efforts to reduce irregular coating defects in head and tail parts of one patterned coating unit have been tried by changing die lip shapes. It has been concluded that optimal die internal design gas been developed, guaranteeing uniform velocity distribution of both Newtonian and shear thinning fluids at the die exit. And also optimal die lip design has been established, providing the longer uniform coating layer thickness within one coating unit.

  • Impregnation of molten thermoplastic resin into continuous unidirectional fiber bundles was investigated. The degree of impregnation is defined as the ratio between the number of impregnated fibers and the total number of fibers of a bundle. The degree of impregnation was modeled as a function of time, impregnation pressure, temperature and tow size assuming the radial inward flow through the fiber bundle is governed by the Darcy's law. The permeability was assumed to be constant. Experiments were performed to evaluate the validity of the medel. Today's T300 graphite fiber bundles and Polyetheretherketone(PEEK) resin was used. A fiber bundle and resin powder were put into a mold and pressure and temperature were applied. After a predetermined time, the sample was taken out and microphotographs of the cross-section were taken. From the microphotographs, the number of impregnated fibers was counted and then the degree of impregnation was determined. Experiments were also performed for different tow sizes. Good agreements were found between the model and the experiments rendering a confidence in the model.

유용미생물을 이용한 포러스 콘크리트의 장기간 연속흐름 실험을 통한 수질정화 효과 검토 (Investigation on Water Purification Effect Through Long-Term Continuous Flow Test of Porous Concrete Using Effective Microorganisms)

  • 이 연구는 생물의 서식기반 제공 효과가 있는 다공질의 부석 및 포러스 콘크리트와 대사 작용 및 항산화작용에 의해 유기 오염물질을 분해시켜 오염된 하천수의 수질정화 효과가 있는 유용미생물을 동시에 이용하여 장기간 연속흐름시험을 통한 수질정화 특성을 검토하고자 하였다. 특히 기존의 미생물 탈리 등의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 이 연구에서는 16S rDNA 염기서열 분석법에 의해 동정된 유용 미생물을 포러스 콘크리트 제조과정에서 각 단계별로 3차 처리하였으며, 최적의 연속흐름 실험을 위한 농도 및 체류시간별에 따른 기초실험을 통하여 운전조건을 검토하였다. 실험 결과 유용미생물을 적용한 포러스 콘크리트는 수질 및 생물에 대한 독성이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 일반 포러스 콘크리트 보다 유용미생물을 적용한 포러스 콘크리트가 우수한 제거효율을 나타내었으며, 150일 이상 큰 변화를 나타내지 않아 장기간 운전이 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 이와 같이 유용미생물을 적용한 포러스 콘크리트의 장기간 연속흐름 실험으로 오염물질 처리성능에 대한 검토를 통하여 오염된 수질을 향상시킬 수 있을 것이라고 판단되며, 실험과정 중 나타난 문제점들이 보완된다면 하천에 적용하여 유입되는 비점오염원을 저감시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • PVA-D2EHPA/TOPO beads containing two extractants, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and trioctylphoshine oxide (TOPO) were prepared for the removal of copper ions from aqueous solution. The prepared PVA-D2EHPA/TOPO beads were characterized by SEM and FT-IR. The removal characteristics of copper ions by PVA-D2EHPA/TOPO beads was investigated using batch and continuous systems. In batch experiments, the maximum removal capacity calculated from Langmuir isotherm model was 18.6 mg/g and the optimal pH was in the range of 4.5~6. The continuous experiments showed that the removal capacity of copper ions increased with increasing inlet copper ion concentrations and bed heights, but decreased with increasing inlet flow rates.

고온호기발효장치를 이용한 조류 분해 및 가스 발생특성 (The properties of algal degradation and gas emission by thermophilic oxic process)

  • 본 연구는 고온호기발효법에 의해 미세조류(부영양화호에서 회수한)를 처리할 경우, 처리조건의 변화에 따른 지구온난화가스의 발생특성을 살펴, 가스억제를 위한 효과적 처리조건을 검토하는 것이다. 회분 및 연속실험을 실시하여, 이하의 결과가 얻어졌다. 회분실험에서는 폐식용유의 첨가유무 및 공기주입량에 따른 발효효과를 검토했다. 폐식용유 첨가의 경우, 발열량의 증가에 따라 처리물질의 수분증발에 효과적 이었다. 또 공기주입량의 변화에 따라, 유기물제거는 공기량이 100ml/min일 때 가장 효과적이었고, 발생가스중 $CO_2$는 실험초기에만 영향을 받았고, $N_2O$는 실험중 전혀 영향을 받지 않았다. 또 $CH_4$는 공기공급이 부족한 초기에 검지 되었으나, 그 후 발생되지 않았다. 연속실험에서 공기량을 100ml/min에 고정한 후,고분자응집제의 첨가유무 및 수분조정제의 종류에 따른 가스발생특성을 비교 검토했다. $N_2O$는 고분자응집제(PAC) 첨가 및 수분조정제의 종류에 의해 가스발생량에 영향을 받지 않았으나, $CO_2$의 경우는 약간의 영향을 받았다. $CH_4$는 검출되지 않았다.

  • Ozone Treatment is getting a common process in a water treatment plant all over the nation. Especially an advanced water treatment using ozone and biofiltration has been a typical method in the regions where using the Nak-Dong River as a drinking water source. The effectiveness of ozone treatment in a continuous flow contact system was investigated with sand filtered water of the Nak-dong River. Pilot tests of the experiments were performed three times of the year like June, August, and October 1995. Most degradable organics of sand filtered water were oxidized in the first and second contact chamber of the system. Ozone treatment was effective for the removal of UV254 absorbance. However, Noticeable removals of $KMnO_4$ demand and TOC(Total Organic Carbon) were occurred when their concentrations exceeded about 5mg/l. The organics causing $KMnO_4$ demand and TOC were degraded into lower molecular matter in an early stage of the ozone contact in the system. Dissolved oxygen concentration was increased after ozone treatment.

Assessment of COBRA-TF for Critical Heat Flux

  • COBRA-TF is a two fluid, three field subchannel code. Three fields are continuous vapor, continuous liquid and droplet. Some assessments are conducted to validate the related models and to estimate a code ability through dryout and post-CHF experiment in a tube and DNB test in rod bundles. It turned out form dryout and post-CHF experiment that the predicted dryout locations and wall temperature profiles are in close agreement with the experiments. On the other hand, DNB prediction of COBRA-TF are performed for two kinds of rod bundles along with EPRI CHF correlation. To estimate its performance COBRA-IV of homogeneous model is also run for the same data. The results say that COBRA-TF/EPRI is better in DNB prediction than COBRA-IV/EPRI. In addition the thermal-hydraulic behaviors due to the different two-phase flow models are presented at the condition of CHF.

Scenedesmus sp.를 이용한 하수의 영양물질 제거에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Nutrient Removal of Wastewater Using Scenedemus sp.)

  • This paper describe the working of algal culture system under batch and continuous feeding effluents in biological treatment process. The main objective of this study was the determination of fundamental opeating parameters such as dilution rates, light intensity, biomass concentration, nutrients contents, which engender an effective nutrient and organic waste removal process. The results of this research indicate that the algae system will remove effectively nutrient and organic waste. In batch cultures, 91.8% dissolved orthophosphate and 83.3% ammonia nitrogen were removed from the sewage in ten days. In continuous flow systems, a detention time of 2.5 days was found adequate to remove 91% T-P, 87% T-N and 95% $NH_3-N$. At 22-28$^{\circ}C$, 60 rpm, with an intensity of 3500 Lux, the specific growth rate, k was 0.59/day in batch experiments. The optimal growth temperature and nutrients rate (N/P) were respectively $25^{\circ}C$ and 3~5. With an abundant supply of untrients, it was possible to sustain substantial population densities in the temperature range of 22~28$^{\circ}C$.

초음파를 이용한 미세조류 연속분리공정 (Continuous Microalgae Separation Process Using Ultrasonic Waves)

  • Research for renewable energy is being performed since it has the merits of little pollution of the environment and sustainable energy resources. Microalgae is attractive as a renewable energy resource. Biomass of the microalgae can be produced by mass culturing, and bulk harvest technology of is needed to produce biomass continuously. Recently, ultrasonic waves were used to harvest the cultivated microalgae continuously. In this study, the separation process using ultrasonic waves was performed to effectively harvest the microalgae. An ultrasonic wave separation resonator was designed and manufactured based on the acoustic field analysis. Separation experiments using design of experiment were carried out, and the influence of experimental variables from the ultrasonic wave separation process was investigated. Mixing conditions of variables were estimated to obtain high separation efficiency and a large microalgae harvest. Experimental results for suitable mixing conditions were compared with simulation results calculated from the state equation.

  • In this paper, we present details on fabrication of single-cell electroporation microdevice, practical experiments of single-cell electroporation with our fabricated microdevice. Also, the continuous electroporation for the continuous flow of cells is used for high-throughput electroporation. The delivery efficiency and cell viability tests are provided and the successful GFP transfection into cells is also evaluated with a fluorescent microscope after electroporation. This device enables to reduce the size of samples and thus the use of small amount of reagents. Also, it makes it possible to permit to avoid cell discrimination (transfected cells versus non-transfected cells) encountered when traditional bulk electroporation is held.
