Secure fixation is essential for continous epidural catheterization on a long-term-basis. Adhesive tape or surgical knots were commonly used for those patients, but the surgical knot method has a tendency to cause strangulation of catheter. Another invasive technique, subcutaneous tissue tunnelling is more safe than other methods but requires sophisticated technique and time. We employed a simple device using a blood transfusion set for patients who have epidural catheters placed safely un their backs. In 120 patients treated for postoperative and chronic pain by means of this technique, the results were as follows: 1) Five of 120 patients (4.2%) developed backache and pruritus, but there were no instances of respiratory depression, local infection and headache. 2) Nine of 120 patients (7.5%) failed booster-injections, but two cases were due to be non-technical errors. 3) The duration of fixation was 1~3 days in most cases (85%), the longest being for 21 days.

A stochastic fundamental duel with continous interfiring times is considered for including the kill effect of multiple hits and fixed duel time. Two alternatives, 'vital hit' and 'damage coefficient' approaches, are developed. Since a large quantity of ammunition is consumed when a sure kill is obtained through repetitive multiple hits, limitation of initial ammunition supply is included in the stochastic duel models with multiple hits and fixed duel time. General solutions are obtained and examples with negative exponential interfiring times and geometric ammunition supply are given.

In the course of continous work for the discovery of anti-thrombotic constituents from tubers of Gastrodia elata, citric acid 1,5-dimethyl ester was isolated from ethylacetate soluble fraction prepared from the methanol extract. The structure of the compound was determined by the spectroscopic data. The anti-thrombotic effect of this compound was observed with prolonging the bleeding time in thrombin-induced thrombosis model of mice.

In the industria; heat treatment fields, some parts of the continous funcae have been automated, but there are not enough interests and achievements for sutomatic charging machine. The automatic charging machine is set up to the industrial mesh belt type continuous furnace which continuously orintermittently charge and extract industrial units for the heat treatments.

By using the state plane approach, the steady state analysis and design of a half bridge parallel-series (LLC-type) resonant converter (HBPSRC) operating in the continous conduction made is presented. The state-plane diagram representation of the converter response gives good insight into the converter operation. Based on this analysis, a set of steady state characteristic waves for HBPSRC is presented. A simple design procedure is given and design example for a 100watts, 30KHz HBPSRC is presented for illustrative purposes.

In the case of a boring bar, the vibration amplitude is generallylarge due to its high slenderness. The boring bat is then modelled as a cantilever with dynamic force acting at the free end and a generalized model of nonlinear continous system is obtained. The Analysis of model is conducted for the specific case with a zero side cutting edge angle. The dynamic behaviour is investigated for machining processes in which the the overlap factor of regenerative effect is considered. The vibration characteristics of boring bar depth of cut rather than feed rate in given slenderness.

In the course of continous work on tubers of Gastrodia elata, a new constituent was isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction prepared from the methanol extract. The structure of the compound was identified as ${\alpha},{\alpha}'-[bis-2-(5-carboxaldehydo)furanyl]-dimethyl$ ether from the elemental analytical and spectroscopic data. This compound was once isolated from Cirsium chlorolepis and named as cirsiumaldehyde. This is the first furan type compound isolated from Gastrodia elata.

In the course of continous work on tubers of Gastrodia elata, a new constituent, 4, 4$^{I}$-dihydroxybenzyl sulfoxide was isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction prepared from the methanol extract. The structure of the compound was identified from the elemental analytical and spectroscopic data in comparison with those of non-substituted benzyl sulfoxide.e.

This paper proposes new position control method for DC servo motor by PI controller adopting sliding mode control. By adding sliding mode controller to conventional PI controller good robustness is obtained with good transient response and no steady state error which are merits in PI controller. In order to use microprocessor for digital control the principles of sliding mode control conventionally explained in continous-time system are extended to discrete-time system.

In this paper we investigate the connection between the continuous-time FIR(finite impulse response) filter and the corresponding discrtet-time FIR filter with fast sampling. The interconnection is established by formulating the discrete-time case using delta operators which has superior numerical properties in discretizing prcedure. The aim of this paper is to present a unified FIR filter using the .delta.-operator and to show that, as sampling interval .DELYA. aperator to zero, the results of this filter converge to the corresponding continuous-time reuslts, which implies that the unified FIR filter unifies continous-time FIR filter and discrtet-time FIR filter.
