  • To improve the quality control of frequently used oriental medicinal plants, the storage, cutting, processing and decokting methods of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. var. purpurea Makino(熟地黃) were examined. The contents of 5-hydroxymethyl-2- furaldehyde(5-HMF) of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. var. purpurea Makino were analysed by HPLC at various conditions as the standard component. Raw materials were classified into 3 groups with their specific gravity(天 地 人黃) and determined the ding weights and the contents of water, the solid component of Ji-Hwang(地黃) was the most. Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. var purpurea Makino was steamed and dried nine times and analysed the content of 5-HMF on every time. In the case of Ji-Hwang, the standard component of the ninth sample was produced the most. But which of the tenth samples of Chun-Hwang and Yin-Hwang(天黃 人黃) were the most. The best decokting conditions which were determined by the yield of 5-HMF were as follows : non cutting, soaking time was 0 minutes, decokting time was 75 minutes after boiling. The contents of sugar on each of samples were determined. The contents of standard component increased by steaming number and the contents of sugar decreased.

  • According to the milling degree (unhulled, brown, 70% polished, and 90% polished rice), cropping areas (Sabong, Myeungsuk, Hadong, and Sanchung), and variety of rices (Yusin and Milyang), the contents of copper, lead, zinc, nickel, mercury, cadmium, chromium, and manganese were analyzed in order to investigate heavy metals in the rice of Kyeong Nam district for two years(1976-1977) by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The contents of heavy metals in all the sample rices observed in this experiment were decreased with the increase of milling degree, but significant difference of the heavy metals was not observed among the cropping areas and variety of rices. 2. The contents of heavy metals were copper, 0.80-2.89 ppm; zinc, 3.23-17.60 ppm; manganese, 6.72-70.25 ppm; and lead, ND-0.64 ppm. 3. The contents of nickel and chromium in unhulled rice were in the range of 2.04-40.64 and 5.09-39.95 ppm, respectively, but these heavy metals were in trace for 90% polished rice. 4. The mercury and cadmium were in trace for some unhulled rice, but they were not detected in polished rice.

  • Objective: To assess the potency of calcium propionate (CAP) used as silage additive, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of CAP on the nitrogen transformation, fermentation quality and aerobic stability of alfalfa silages. Methods: Alfalfa was ensiled with four levels of CAP (5, 10, 15, and 20 g/kg of fresh weight [FW]) in laboratory silos for 30 days. After opening, the silages were analyzed for the chemical and microbiological characteristics, and subjected to an aerobic stability test. Results: The increasing proportion of CAP did not affect pH, lactic acid (LA) concentrations and yeast counts, while linearly decreased counts of enterobacteria (p = 0.029), molds (p<0.001) and clostridia (p<0.001), and concentrations of acetic acid (p<0.001), propionic acid (p<0.001), butyric acid (p<0.001), and ethanol (p = 0.007), and quadratically (p = 0.001) increased lactic acid bacteria counts. With increasing the proportion of CAP, the dry matter (DM) loss (p<0.001), free amino acid N (p<0.001), ammonia N (p = 0.004), and non-protein N (p<0.001) contents were linearly reduced, whereas DM (p = 0.048), water soluble carbohydrate (p<0.001) and peptide N (p<0.001) contents were linearly increased. The highest Flieg's point was found in CAP10 (75.9), represented the best fermentation quality. All silages treated with CAP improved aerobic stability as indicated by increased stable hours compared with control. Conclusion: The addition of CAP can suppress the undesirable microorganisms during ensiling and exposure to air, thereby improving the fermentation quality and aerobic stability as well as retarding the proteolysis of alfalfa silage. It is suggested that CAP used as an additive is recommended at a level of 10 g/kg FW.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that generates a sketch likely to be drawn by a human from a real image(a computer generated image or a photo image). The method can create human friendly images with pen strokes by using image processing techniques such as spatial filters. In order to create the human friendly image, first, we made the tiny unnecessary contours. Second, we made the second image by inverting the first image and performed a processing similar to the first processing. Last, we subtracted the second image from the first image and added a hatch to it. The sequence of processing enables us to generate a human friendly image with line shading, likely to be sketched by water pen compared to the past method(pencil hatching and sketch effects). Also the proposed method can represent the sketch effects more effectively with applying different hatch to the shading area of a input image.

  • In this study, we prepared the real environmental sound data sets arising from people's movement comprising 9 different environment types. The environmental sounds are pre-processed with pre-emphasis and Hamming window, then go into the classification experiments with the extracted features using MFCC (Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients). The GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model) classifier without post processing tends to yield abruptly changing classification results since it does not consider the results of the neighboring frames. Hence we proposed the post processing methods which suppress abruptly changing classification results by taking the probability or the rank of the neighboring frames into account. According to the experimental results, the method using the probability of neighboring frames improve the recognition performance by more than 10% when compared with the method without post processing.

  • Recently, a complex event processing system has been introduced to quickly and efficiently process real-time events in various applications. Since the existing complex event processing schemes do not consider the similarity and duplication of operators, they perform a lot of computations and consume memory. To solve such problems, this paper proposes an efficient complex event processing scheme considering similar operators and duplication operations. When the same primitive events have similar operations, the proposed scheme combines them into one virtual operator. For duplicated operations, the proposed scheme processes only one of them first, and then processes the others using the results of the already processed operation when the same operation is subsequently performed. It is shown through performance comparison that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing scheme in terms of the whole operation throughput.

  • With the development of social network services, graph structures have been utilized to represent relationships among objects in various applications. Recently, a demand of subgraph matching in real-time graph streams has been increased. Therefore, an efficient approximate Top-k subgraph matching scheme for low latency in real-time graph streams is required. In this paper, we propose an approximate Top-k subgraph matching scheme considering data reuse in graph stream environments. The proposed scheme utilizes the distributed stream processing platform, called Storm to handle a large amount of stream data. We also utilize an existing data reuse scheme to decrease stream processing costs. We propose a distance based summary indexing technique to generate Top-k subgraph matching results. The proposed summary indexing technique costs very low since it only stores distances among vertices that are selected in advance. Finally, we provide k subgraph matching results to users by performing an approximate Top-k matching on the summary indexing. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we conduct various performance evaluations in diverse real world datasets.

  • Processing the continuous queries which perform the identical query in given time interval is required because of the continuous change of location of the moving object. Thus the continuous query may cause loads to the server or network and take the cost of processing time because the continuous query is performed in server as the moving object's location changes. In this paper, we propose the query processing technique to perform the continuous range query that is a sort of continuous query effectively The proposed query processing technique predicts the query result and the validity of query answer to perform the continuous query for reciprocal moving object. And it enables to process effectively the query that moves dynamically.

  • Changes in proximate composition and protein quality were determined to find out appropriate processing conditions of the seasoned and smoked squid(Neon flying squid, Ommastrephes bartrannii). Moisture and crude protein contents were severely reduced (p<0.05), while increasing of fat and ash contents were not apparent. Seasoning and smoking contributed iii enhancing TBA value. Trypsin inhibitor(Tl) content was not increased severely after those processing steps. TI content checked in the all steps of squid processing was not correlated with the TBA value of squid in the same processing step. An improved digestibility and protein efficiency ratio(PER) were observed in the all products except with steak(mechanically soften product) in vitro enzymatic digestibilities of both raw Neon flying squid meats(mantle and arm) were significantly inferior(p<0.05) to other squid species.
