  • Technology for compressing low-bitrate multichannel audio coding is being standardized owing to the increasing need of consumer for multichannel audio contents. In this paper we propose the sound source location cue coding (SSLCC) for extremely compressing multichannel audio to be suitable at the narrow bandwidth transmission environment. To improve the compression capability of the conventional binaural cue coding(BCC), the SSLCC adopts the virtual source location information (VSLI) as a spatial cue parameter, a symmetric uniform quantizer, and Huffman coder. The objective and subjective assessment results show that the SSLCC provides lower bitrate and better audio quality than conventional BCC method.

  • Individuals often receive smishing campaigns (mobile phishing messages), which they treat as spam. Thus, firms should understand how their customers distinguish their promotion messages from smishing. However, only a few studies examined this important issue. The present study employs the elaboration likelihood model to develop research hypotheses on the relationship between message cue and message credibility. The message cue in this study is classified as content cue, which is found in the content of promotion messages, and as leakage cue, which is found in peripheral information in the message. Leakage cue includes orthography (inclusion of special characters)and an abbreviated link sent by a faithless sender. We also propose that contextualization has a moderating effect on the relationship between content cue and credibility. We conducted a survey experiment to examine the effect of message cues on message credibility in the context of respondents receiving discount coupons through mobile messages. The result of data analysis based on 166 responses suggests that leakage cue had a negative effect on message credibility. A message with defective content cue has a marginally negative effect on message credibility. In particular, defective content cue in a high-contextual message has a strong negative impact on message credibility. This effect was not observed in low-contextual messages. Moreover, message credibility is significantly low regardless of the degree of contextualization if there is a leakage cue in the message. Our findings suggest that mobile promotion messages should be customized for message receivers and should have no leakage cues.

  • With the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, there is an increasing variety of methods for creating 3D models. These include innovations such as text-only generation, 2D images to 3D models, and combining images with cue words. Each of these methods has unique advantages, opening up new possibilities in the field of 3D modeling. The purpose of this study is to explore and summarize these methods in-depth, providing researchers and practitioners with a comprehensive perspective to understand the potential value of these methods in practical applications. Through a comprehensive analysis of pure text generation, 2D images to 3D models, and images with cue words, we will reveal the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods, as well as their applicability in different scenarios. Ultimately, this study aims to provide a useful reference for the future direction of AI modeling and to promote the innovation and progress of 3D model generation technology.

  • This experimental study examines whether paralinguistic behavior is a deception cue in an interrogation. 92 college students participated in an experiment and were randomly assigned to two conditions. Participant were then asked to take the money or not to take the money according to the condition they were assigned. Then participants had a face-to-face interrogation. During the interrogation, participants' paralinguistic behavior was recorded and used for coding and analysis. Results reveal that participants' paralinguistic behaviors differ depending on question types and deceptive paralinguistic cues are speech speed and fillers for the closed critical question and response latency, response length, and fillers for the open critical question. These findings implicate that part of paralinguistic behavior could be a deception cue and thus these cues might be applicable to deception detection in real world criminal investigations.

  • The 20 five-year-old kindergarteners in the experimental group participated in 14 art criticism activities over an 8 week period. Analysis of the data by frequency, percentage, and t-test showed differences between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group improved in Visual Cue-Attendance and Evaluative Judgmental categories. Children in the experimental group also showed higher scores in organization of pictures and materials in their expressive art work. There were no differences between groups in sequence and contents of expression.

  • This study examined the effects of game genre, news media with differing political ideologies, and game-related information sources on gamer issue participation by performing a hierarchical regression model, using an online survey on Korean gamers (N=1,362). As a result of the study, playing specific genres of games played a positive role in gamer issue participation. The group behavior or collective action for or against game regulation reported in the liberal/moderate media acted as a mobilization cue for readers and potentially encouraged gamers to take social action. But the conservative media, which used governmental organizations and interest groups as sources of information, had a negative impact on real-life participatory behavior. The biased journalism practice of the mass media on game-related social issues influenced gamers' social and political behavior through corrective action. This study is significant in empirically analyzing the relationship between political ideology, game genre, media use, and gamers' social participation. The current research suggests the improvement of game regulation policy and the need for theoretical and conceptual expansion of game research.

  • Most of virtual reality systems ask users to control 3D objects or to navigate 3D world using 3D controllers. To maximize the human performance in the control, the design of virtual reality system and its input and output devices should be optimized. In this study, an experiment was designed to investigate the effects of three resolution factors of a virtual reality system on the human performance. Six subjects conducted the experiment for the factors; two frame rates, three spatial resolutions, and three pictorial contents. The result showed that the greater the spatial resolution was, the higher the human performance was. For the temporal resolution, fixed frame rate at 18 Hz was better than the varied maximized frame rate. For the pictorial contents, the virtual space with orientation cues marked the greatest performance than the other two conditions; the virtual space without any orientation cue and the virtual space like real world. These results could be applied for the design of virtual reality systems.

  • In order to make 3-D display technique a better tool to provide viewers with realistic stereoscopic experience, various researches have been done in the many relevant fields. This psychophysical study was designed to investigate whether there was any difference in the perceptual processing between a dominant and non-dominant eye when a 3-D cue was provided exclusively to only one eye. We measured the reaction time for detecting a depth change by providing the viewer's each eyes with differential 3-D stimuli, which have systematical patterns. We obtained that there was a consistent 3-D perceptual performance when the 3-D cue was provided to the viewers' left eye regardless of their eye dominance. The result suggests that it might be a better technique to arrange the camera for left eye to carry 3-D cues to get the viewer's consistent 3-D perception.

  • A hedge is a linguistic device to express uncertainties. Hedges are used in a sentence when the writer is uncertain or has doubt about the contents of the sentence. Due to this uncertainty, sentences with hedges are considered to be non-factual. There are many applications which need to determine whether a sentence is factual or not. Detecting hedges has the advantage in information retrieval, and information extraction, and QnA systems, which make use of non-hedge sentences as target to get more accurate results. In this paper, we constructed Korean hedge corpus, and extracted generalized hedge cue-word patterns from the corpus, and then used them in detecting hedges. In our experiments, we achieved 78.6% in F1-measure.

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of peripheral blur on binocular fusion to resolve binocular fusion failure which is one of the 3D visual fatigues in the perspective of human visual system. With stimulus having discrete disparity change, binocular fusion failure rate for target stimulus having crossed and uncrossed disparity decreased. And target stimulus having continuous disparity also required relatively larger binocular disparity when peripheral blur was presented with target stimulus rather than when peripheral blur was not presented. These results imply that peripheral blur facilitated binocular fusion in the situation of binocular disparity change, and suggest that considering the characteristics of human three-dimensional visual systems, manipulating 3D contents can improve visual discomfort caused by binocular displays at low costs.
