  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the scales measuring adolescent depression. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using CES-D and RADS-2-K as sales measuring adolescent depression. The participants were 1,217 adolescents from two middle schools located in South Korea. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. All the items included in the two instruments were analysed through content analysis. Results: The study revealed that the two instruments produced different results in the number of depressive students, depression levels according to subjects' characteristics, and item distribution based on content analysis. The total number of the students belonging to the depression group was 194, including 132 from CES-D and 183 from RADS-2-K. Based on the content analysis covering two categories, general and adolescent depression, the study determined fifteen subcategories in the items of the two scales. Conclusion: In this study, CES-D showed less sensitivity than RADS-2-K in depression levels according to factors relevant to adolescent depression, and both scales had no item for three subcategories of adolescent depression and one subcategory of general depression. The researcher suggests that further studies to evaluate the validity of adolescent depression scales will be useful for helping adolescents with depression.

  • In this research, we propose an unsupervised debate indexing method using audio and visual information. The proposed method combines clustering results of speech by BIC and visual by distance function. The combination of audio-visual information reduces the problem of individual use of speech and visual information. Also, an effective content based analysis is possible. We have performed various experiments to evaluate the proposed method according to use of audio-visual information for five types of debate data. From experimental results, we found that the effect of audio-visual integration outperforms individual use of speech and visual information for debate indexing.

  • Traditionally, news was consumed only through printed newspapers and broadcasting media, such as radio and television. However, the Internet has enabled people to consume news content online. Since most of online news content has been provided for free, it is not easy for news providers to charge the fixed subscription fee for online news content. Therefore, as an alternative strategy, some online news providers have tried to adopt the Pay-What-You-Want (PWYW) pricing model, which allows users (readers) to pay as much as they want after consuming news content. As this pricing model shows some possibility to grow and replace the unsuccessful monetization strategy of online news content, we therefore examined the comparative importance of seven heuristic attributes (i.e., article evaluation, article share, article comment, article information design, article length, writer SNS, and writer information) affecting readers' voluntary payment behavior through a conjoint analysis with 379 news articles collected from online news Website (i.e., Ohmynews.com) where the PWYW model has been working successfully. This study found that article share and article length are the most important factors which affect online news content users' voluntary payment. Finally, two major and eight minor propositions are suggested based on the findings of the study. This study would suggest guidelines for how to create online news content which induces much more voluntary payment.

  • Shear failure in soil is the primary cause of most geotechnical structure failures or instability. Soil water content is a significant factor affecting soil shear strength. In this study, the shear strength of samples with different water contents was tested. The shear strength, cohesion, and internal friction angle decreased with increasing water content. Based on the variation of cohesion and internal friction angle, the water content zone was divided into a high-water content zone and low-water content zone with a threshold water content of 15.05%. Cohesion and internal friction angle have a good linear relationship with water content in both zones. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM) test presented that the aggregates size of the compacted loess gradually increases with increasing water content. Meanwhile, the clay in the compacted loess forms a matric that envelops around the surface of the aggregates and fills the inter-aggregates pores. A quantitative analysis of bound water and free water under different water contents using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) test was carried out. The threshold water content between bound water and free water was slightly below the plastic limit, which is consistent with the results of shear strength parameters. Combined with the T2 distributions obtained by NMR, one can define a T2 relaxation time of 1.58 ms as the boundary point for bound water distribution without free water. Finally, the effects of bound water and free water on shear strength parameters were analyzed using linear regression analysis.

  • The aggregate gradation analysis is a study that evaluates the accuracy of a specific purpose for the aggregate gradation analysis results essential for construction-related major education. This study is to evaluate the effect of aggregate moisture content on aggregate gradation analysis. The change in the moisture content of the aggregate stored in the asphalt plant cold bin and stock piles was monitored for one year, and based on the results, a sample of aggregate with different moisture content was produced. The gradation curve for each aggregate sample was analyzed to evaluate the effect of aggregate moisture content on aggregate gradation analysis. As a result of the gradation evaluation, it was confirmed that as the moisture content increased, the particle size error for particles less than 5 mm increased in the gradation analysis of the oven-dried aggregate, and this error increased as the particle size decreased. In addition, for aggregate particles of 5 mm or more, it was confirmed that the error in gradation analysis rapidly decreased due to the increase in the moisture content. An analysis was performed on the effect of the error in gradation analysis on the management of hot-bin aggregates in asphalt plants. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the minimum aggregate size of the first hot-bin in a general asphalt plant was 2.38 mm or more, so the maximum gradation error due to the non oven-dry aggregate was less than 2%. Therefore, it seems possible to use the results of the gradation analysis of cold bin non oven-dry aggregate for quality management of asphalt mixture production.
