  • We analyzed the D.I. water used in wet cleaning process of semiconductor device manufacturing both at the D.I. water plant and at the wafer cleaning bath to detect the impurity source of D.I. water contamination. This shows that the quantity of impurity is related to the resistivity of D.I. water, and we found that the cleanliness of the wafer surface processed in D.I. water bath was affected by the degree of the ionic impurity contamination. So we evaluated the cleaning effect as different method for Fe ion, having the best adsoptivity on wafer surface. Moreover the temperature effect of the D.I. water is investigated in case of anion in order to remove the chemical residue after wet process. In addition to the control of D.I. water resistivity, chemical analysis of impurity control in D.I. water should be included and a suitable cleaning an drinsing method needs to be investigated for a high yielding semiconductor device.

  • Recently, diagnosis techniques have been investigated to detect a partial discharge associated with a dielectric material defect in a high voltage electrical apparatus. However, the properties of detection technique of PD aren't completely understood because the physical process of PD. Therefore, this paper analyzes the process on Surface Discharge of Polymer Insulator using Wavelet transform. Wavelet transform provides a direct quantitative measure of spectral content in the time frequency domain. As it is important to develop a non-contact method for detecting the Contamination Degree, this research analyzes the electromagnetic waves emitted from PD using Wavelet transform. This result experimentally shows the process of PD as a two-dimensional distribution in the time-frequency domain. The method is shown to be useful for detecting prediction of contamination degree.

  • Surface electrical conduction in insulator is most important factor to assess the insulation performances of outdoor insulating materials. In this paper, contamination performance of the widely used materials for outdoor insulator - porcelain, EPDM, Silicone rubber - were discussed by measuring properties of average leakage current and scintillation discharge pulses under artificial contamination conditions. The artificial contaminations used were deionized distilled water fog, 0.5wt% NaCl salt fog of light pollution and 2wt% NaCl salt fog of medium pollution. The average leakage current was appeared linearly with applied voltage at dry and clean surface condition. The magnitude of leakage current was almost same at different kinds of samples. In case of deionized distilled water fog, the characteristics of leakage current and applied voltage was most different to that in case of dry and clean condition. In case of salt fog pollution condition. The leakage current was increased above critical voltage. The scintillation discharges were also activated at the level the leakage current and scintillation discharges were increased with increasing pollution degree. The resistance to pollution properties of silicone rubber appeared excellent among them.

  • In these days, the silicone insulators have been increasingly studied and applied for outdoor insulators because it has superior characteristics than porcelain and glass insulators, which have been used for outdoor insulators. First of all, The excellent performance of the silicone rubber in polluted and wet conditions is attributed to the ability of the material to maintain the hydrophobicity of the surface in the presence of severe contamination and wet conditions. This is because of the presence of low molecular weight mobile fluid in the silicone rubber which diffuses to the surface and to above the contamination layer. But, the leakage current and some surface discharge occurs on surface of the composite polymeric insulation materials when the insulator is used for a long time with severe contaminative condition and it can lead the contamination flashover. So the leakage current and the discharge current are important to estimate the condition of the silicone rubber surface. In this paper, the average leakage current, the relation of surface discharge current and phase angle were study to investigate electrical conduction of silicone rubber surface with the salt fog condition.

  • The present model of a SF6 arc accounts for the copper vapour contamination from the electrodes inside a Laval nozzle of a circuit breaker. Steady state simulations have been done for the arc with electrode gap of 60mm and DC electric current of 500A, 1000A and 1500A for both cases with and without copper contamination. The effects of electrode polarity are considered for the arc current of 1000A. It was found out that evaporation of copper from the anode results in a cooling of the arc in a region close to the electrodes. The electrical potential across the electrodes is not sensitive to the presence of copper vapour, typically less than $4\%$ difference. Transient analysis has been done in order to obtain the arc properties at current zero. The arc current is increased linearly from -1000 to 0A when the upstream electrode is cathode with constant dI/dt of $27.0A/{\mu}s$ (or decreased linearly from 1000 to 0A when upstream electrode is anode). It has been predicted that the presence of copper vapour reduces the interruption capability of the breaker.

  • Abandoned mines release acid mine drainage and cause the contamination of soil and crops around the mine area. The objective of current study is to evaluate effect of mine on the soil and crop contamination. Soils, water, and crops were collected and analyzed, and the heavy metal data were classified into types of the soil, types of crops, and distance from the minehead. Surface soils of the mine area were highly contaminated with heavy metals, especially with zinc and lead. Tailings and cultivated paddy soils were also highly contaminated. Heavy metal concentrations upon distance from minehead decrease steadily as the distance from the minehead increase. The correlation between heavy metals was extracted from soils and the content in the rice samples showed a positive relation for arsenic and cadmium but not a meaningful relation for other metals.

  • Contamination of soil due to an oil spill influences its subsequent behavior. An investigation was conducted to study the effect of oil viscosity on compaction characteristics, coefficient of permeability, and shear strength. Water permeability was also determined by using Kerosene, Engine oil, and Crude-oil as contaminants. The test results indicate that the compaction characteristics are influenced by oil contamination. Direct shear test was conducted to investigate the effect of oil in the pore space in sandy ground. angle of internal friction of sand (based on total stress condition) decreases due to presence of oil within the pore spaces in sand.

  • The Sihwaho Project got off to a bad start, which led to a series of mishaps and an imbalance of the whole project. The purpose of this study is to select the case of Sihwaho as a research subject, clean up the contamination caused by the ill planned project, develop suitable measures to stabilize the lake environment, and find the implications of similar development projects. For this, the authorshave conducted three simulations after studying the structural reasons for the failure of the Sihwaho Policy by identifying cause and effect relationships, pre-testing a number of policy measures for the current lake project, and presenting measures for solving the contamination problem at the lake. The simulations have shown us that filling the lake with seawater is inadequate to solve the problem and that we also have to make efforts to reduce the volume of wastes to the lake as well. The authorshave also analyzed the degree of difference between the simulation and survey results for scenario 1, in which we have studied how much seawater can reduce the contamination of the Sihwaho Lake without the effort to reduce the volume of wastes into the lake. The survey showed that most citizens and employees of the Ministry of Environment did not think it would be serious as the simulation results pointed out, and the employees of the Ministry of Environment were more optimistic about the situation than the public.

  • Recently, pollution from gunpowder due to shell shootings at military drilling sites has raised various environmental concerns. The purpose of this study is to predict the contamination level of RDX in the soil area of the firing range zone near Anwol river watershed, the study site, and the intake area, Anwol river and Imjin river, as a function of time and space. In this study, a multimedia model was developed to predict the variation of RDX contamination by rainfall. The range of the medium was limited to soil, water, and sediment, and excluded the atmosphere, taking into account the physical and chemical properties of RDX with low vapor pressure and low Henry's constant. The pollutant levels of the waters of compartments, including the last section of the Imjin River affecting the water intake, was compared with the environmental standard for RDX.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the contamination rate of barium sulfate suspension made in the exposed state in usual circumstances. This study was performed in four university hospital using the contrast media by barium sulfate powder. The specimen were detected at dispensing water, agitator and mixing tank. We also classified the suspension into general bacteria, mycete, and Bacillus coli infection. The tap water were used to dispense water in the all hospitals. Bacillus colt were not detected in the all. General bacteria and mycete were not detected in the one specimen, but detected in two specimen over defined value. In the contamination rate of agitator, mixing tank, and the manufactured, Bacillus coli were not detected in all. However, general bacteria and mycete were detected too numberous to count. In conclusion, the refined water must be used in dispensing water in manufacturing suspension. The disinfectant is also used in washing the agitator and mixing tank for sterilization. Hand washing is indispensible to manufacturing suspension for preventing from infection.
