열모세관 현상에 의한 액체 슬러그 이동에 관한 연구 (A Study of Thermocapillary Migration of a Liquid Slug)

  • Thermocapillary migration of a liquid slug is caused by temperature difference between the ends of a slug. The temperature difference induces the difference of the surface tension coefficient and consequently of capillary pressure between the ends of the slug. Presently available model to predict a velocity of thermocapillary migration adopts the Poiseuille equation which is valid only for a very long slug and neglects the shear stress near the contact line. In the present study, a new model has been developed to consider the shear stress near the contact line so that it can be applied to slugs or drops of general configuration. The experiments using mineral oil with the length to diameter ratio being 10 and a glass capillary were performed. It was found that the liquid slug began to move upon overcoming contact angle hysteresis when the temperature difference reached 35$^{\circ}C$. The results indicate that the new model well predicts the velocity of the liquid slug.

윈들라스 메커니즘을 적용한 트레일 워킹화 개발을 위한 생체역학적 분석 (Biomechanical Analysis for the Development of Windlass Mechanism for Trail-walking Shoe)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the windlass mechanism in trail-walking shoe prototypes that can effectively support arches. A study of these effects should help with the development of a first-rate trail-walking shoe development guide for the distribution of quality information to consumers. Methods : The subjects were ten adult males who volunteered to participate in the study. Shoes from three companies, which will be referred to as Company S (Type A), Company M (Type B), and Company P (Type C), were selected for the experiment. The subjects wore these shoes and walked at a speed of 4.2 km/h, and as they tested each shoe, the contact area, maximum pressure average, and surface force were all measured. Results : Shoe Type A showed a contact area of $148.78{\pm}4.31cm^2$, Type B showed an area of $145.74{\pm}4.1cm^2$, and Type C showed an area of $143.37{\pm}4.57cm^2$ (p<.01). Shoe Type A demonstrated a maximum average pressure of $80.80{\pm}9.92kPa$, Type B an average of $85.72{\pm}11.01kPa$, and Type C an average of $89.12{\pm}10.88bkPa$ (p<.05). Shoe Type A showed a ground reaction force of $1.13{\pm}0.06%BW$, Type B a force of $1.16{\pm}0.04%BW$, and Type C a force of $1.16{\pm}0.03%BW$ (p<.05). Conclusion : The Type A trail-walking shoe, which was designed with a wide arch from the center of the forefoot to the front of the rearfoot showed excellent performance, however, more development and analysis of the windlass mechanism for a variety of arch structures is still necessary.

On Electroless Plating and Double Sided Buried Contact Silicon Solar Cells

  • The double sided buried contact(DSBC)silicon solar cell processing requires doping of the rear and front grooves with boron and phosphorus respectively. The successful electroless plating of these grooves with the appropriate metals haave been found to depend on the boron conditions for the rear fingers. However, an increased understanding of electroless plating has removed this restriction. Thus the DSBC cells using different boron conditions can be electrolessly plated with ease. This paper presents the recent work done on metallizing the double sided buried contact silicon solar cells with heavily doped boron grooves. The cells results indicate that, the heavier the boron grooves, the poorer the cell performance because of the probable higher metal contact recombination associated with boron grooves.

Three Predictive Tests Using Mice for the Identification of Contact Sensitizer

  • Predictive tests for the identification of contact sensitizing chemicals have been developed. We measured the sensitization potential with three predictive tests, the in vitro and the in vivo Local Lymph Node Assay(LLNA), ELISA to detect interferon-gamma(IFN-${\gamma}$) from supernatant and flow cytometry to detect change of cell surface proteins, using draining lymph nodes of mice. BALB/c mice were exposed to various chemicals or vehicles on the ears daily for 3 consecutive days in all experiments. With some exceptions of propyl paraben, neomycin sulfate, the in vivo LLNA was able to detect the sensitizing capacity of test chemicals and was more sensitive than the in vitro LLNA for chemicals used in the present study. In another experiment, contact sensitivity was assessed by the ELISA to detect IFN-Υ from the supernatants of the cultured LNCs after sensitization with chemicals. There was a good correlation between the LLNA and the IFN-Υ production for test chemicals. We also examined the change of cell surface proteins on LNCs after sensitization by flow cytometry for some cell adhesion molecules(ICAM-1, E-cadherine, B7 molecule), T cell markers(CD3, CD4, CD8, T$\alpha$$\beta$,T${\gamma}$$\delta$) and B cell markers(LR1, CD45R, I-Ad). The number of ICAM-1 positive cells and B cells in LNCs were increased after sensitization with DNCB, TNCB, isoeugenol and 25%, 50% cinnamic aldehyde compared with that of vehicle as a control. In conclusion, the in vivo LLNA could provide more sensitive screening test for moderate to strong sensitizers and some weak sensitizers including cosmetic raw materials than the in vitro LLNA. The production of IFN-Υ by allergen-activated LNCs might be a values indicators without radioisotopes for the identification of contact allergens. Detection of allergens by testing the increase of ICAM-1 positive cells and B cells in LNCs by flow cytometry might be used as a test method to detect allergens.

마디접촉조건에 따른 나사철근의 기계식 이음 특성 (Mechanical Splicing Characteristic of the Threaded Bar according to the Contact Conditions of the Transverse Rib)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the mechanical splicing characteristic of the threaded bar according to the contact conditions of the transverse rib. In order to consider the contact conditions of the rib, selection of the main variables including the gap of the core diameter ($l_c$), rib angle (${\theta}$), and the number of contacts ($C_N$) of transverse rib was done. So as to analyze the splicing characteristic of the D51 threaded bar, a finite element (FE) simulation of the tensile test was conducted using the designed D51 threaded bar and coupler. Through FE simulation results, it was verified that the mechanical slicing characteristics varied based on the main design variables ($l_c$, ${\theta}$, and $C_N$). It was further confirmed that it was important to determine the $C_N$ in consideration of $l_c$. Additionally, the tensile test results of the D25 and D51 threaded bar combined with the couplers were similar to FE simulation results. Furthermore, to quantitatively evaluate FE simulation and test results, the calculation equation for the contacted projection area ratio (R) of the transverse rib was proposed. To secure a mechanical splicing joint of the threaded bar, it was established that the R calculated using the proposed equation had to be greater or equal to 40%.

(TiB+TiC) 입자강화 Ti기 복합재료의 접촉하중에 따른 내마모 특성 (Effect of Contact Load on Wear Property of (TiB+TiC) Particulates Reinforced Titanium Matrix Composites)

  • The aim of this research is to evaluate the wear properties of (TiB+TiC) paticulate reinforced titanium matrix composites (TMCs) by in-situ synthesis. Different particle sizes (1500, $150{\mu}m$) and contents (0.94, 1.88 and 3.76 mass% for Ti, 1.98 and 3.96 mass% for the Ti6Al4V alloy) of boron carbide were added to pure titanium and to a Ti6Al4V alloy matrix during vacuum induction melting to provide 5, 10 and 20 vol.% (TiB+TiC) particulate reinforcement amounts. The wear behavior of the (TiB+TiC) particulate reinforced TMCs is described in detail with regard to the coefficient of friction, the hardness, and the degree of reinforcement fragmentation during sliding wear. The worn surfaces of each sliding wear condition are shown for the three types of wear studied here: transfer layer wear, particle cohesion wear and the development of abrasive areas. The fine reinforcements of TMCs were easily fragmented from the Ti matrix as compared to coarse reinforcements, and fragmented debris accelerated the decrease in the wear resistance.

W-B-C-N 확산방지막의 특성 및 열적 안정성 연구 (Diffusion and Thermal Stability Characteristics of W-B-C-N Thin Film)

  • 텅스턴-보론-카본질소 화합물 박막(W-B-C-N)을 만들기 위하여 박막내에 보론과 카본 그리고 질소의 불순물을 주입한 다음 결정구조를 조사하였으며, 이러한 박막의 식각 특성을 조사하기 위하여 고온에서 열처리한 다음 Cu박막을 W-B-C-N 박막위에 증착한 다음에 열처리하였고 여기에서 열적인 특성을 조사하였다. $1000\;{\AA}$의 박막을 RF magnetron sputtering방법을 이용하여 증착한 후에 박막의 전기적구조적인 특성을 측정하였으며, scratch test를 통해 박막의 결합력을 측정하였고, XRD측정을 통하여 결정성을 조사하였으며, 열처리한 후 etching을 하여 nomarski 현미경을 통하여 확산방지막의 안정성을 조사하였다. 이로부터 확산방지막내의 보론과 카본 질소 등의 불순물이 들어감에 따라 Cu가 Si 속으로 얼마나 들어가는가를 효과적으로 조사하였다. W-B-C-N 확산방지막의 역할은 $850^{\circ}C$까지 고온 열처리를 하는 경우에 Cu 원자가 Si 속으로 확산되어 나가는 것을 효과적으로 방지하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 텅스텐-보론-카본질소 화합물 박막의 비저항은 질소 가스의 유량비를 조절함으로써 쉽게 조절할 수 있었으며, 텅스텐-보론-카본-질소 화합물 박막은 Cu 확산방지막으로 적용했을 때 적절한 질소 농도가 들어간 확산방지막에서는 효과적으로 Cu의 확산을 방지하는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this paper we prove the following : Let M be a semi-invariant submanifold with almost contact metric structure (${\phi}$, ${\xi}$, g) of codimension 3 in a complex hyperbolic space $H_{n+1}{\mathbb{C}}$. Suppose that the third fundamental form n satisfies $dn=2{\theta}{\omega}$ for a certain scalar ${\theta}({\leq}{\frac{c}{2}})$, where ${\omega}(X,\;Y)=g(X,\;{\phi}Y)$ for any vectors X and Y on M. Then M has constant eigenvalues correponding the shape operator A in the direction of the distinguished normal and the structure vector ${\xi}$ is an eigenvector of A if and only if M is locally congruent to one of the type $A_0$, $A_1$, $A_2$ or B in $H_n{\mathbb{C}}$.

The southeastern region of the Vela SNR

  • We investigate the southeastern region of the Vela supernova remnant (SNR) in the multi-wavelength domains. This region is quite interesting because it includes the bullet feature D/D´ and another SNR (the Vela Jr.). The C IV $\lambda\lambda1548$, 1551 emission-line morphologies obtained from the FIMS/SPEAR data show that there are several local peaks of C IV on the bullet D/D´ and the Vela Jr. SNR. This may provide clues to direct interaction between both SNRs. Also, we found that the southeastern side of the Vela is in direct contact with an H-alpha ring feature whose central source seems to be a B-type star, HD 76161. The C IV emission peaks along this contact boundary. We investigate this interacting region in detail.
