  • For a large-scale semiconductor manufacturing clean room, the energy consumed in an outdoor air conditioning system to heat, humidify, cool and dehumidify incoming outdoor air is very large. In particular, the energy requirement to humidify outdoor air in the winter season is generally known to be high. Recently, in order to overcome the high energy consumption nature of a steam generator in a conventional steam humidification type outdoor air conditioning system, an air washer is often introduced instead of the steam generator in the outdoor air conditioning system, which can be called a water spray humidification type outdoor air conditioning system. Therefore, the assessment and comparison of the annual energy consumed in the steam humidification type and the water spray humidification type outdoor air conditioning systems deserves to be examined in order to reduce the outdoor air conditioning load of a clean room. In the present study, a numerical analysis was conducted to obtain the annual electric power consumption of the two outdoor air conditioning systems. It was shown from the comparison of the numerical results that the water spray humidification type outdoor air conditioning system can reduce about 30% of annual electric power consumption of the steam humidification type outdoor air conditioning system.

  • In this paper, a new circuit design named memory-in-pixel for low power consumption of the liquid crystal display (LCD) is presented. Since each pixel has a memory, it is able to express 8 color grades using the data saved in the memory without the operation of the gate and source driver ICs so that it can reduce the power consumption of the LCD panel. A memory circuit consists of modified S-R flip-flop (NAND-type) implemented in the pixel, which can supply AC bias for operating the liquid crystal (LC) with the interlocking clocks (CLK_A and CLK_B). This circuit is more complex than the inverter-type memory circuit, but it has lower power consumption of approximately 50% than the circuit. We have investigated the power consumption both NAND and inverter-type memory circuit using a Smart SPICE for the resolution of $96{\times}128$. The estimated power consumption of the inverter-type memory was about 0.037mW. On the other hand, the NAND-type memory showed power consumption of about 0.007mW.

  • It is known that energy consumption in bottom floor of typical Korean-style apartment is the highest. Previous studies for energy consumption in accordance with floor level appear to be very limited due to the dependence on single energy variable such as electric power or LNG separately, based on past flat type of apartment. Acknowledging these constraints, an empirical study for a tower type emerged recently as new style of apartment in South Korea was conducted to demonstrate how a comprehensive evaluation for both electric power and LNG consumption can be used to assist in monitoring the total energy consumption in terms of floor specific settings. It was possible to identify that energy consumption in bottom floor is lesser than that of top floor, to the contrary, fact known from previous study. Also electric power consumption in top floor was identified as 15% higher than that of floor in the least. It is anticipated that this integrated utilization of electric power and LNG data would present more scientific and objective evidence for the energy load among floor level of tower type apartment by overcoming serious constraints suffered from the past single variable investigation. Ultimately, the result in this paper could be used as a valuable reference to providing priority for energy saving activities in top floor such as cool roof or green roof.

  • In recent large-scale semiconductor manufacturing cleanrooms, the energy consumption in outdoor air conditioning (OAC) systems to heat, humidify, cool and dehumidify outdoor air(OA) represents about 40~50 % of the total cleanroom power consumption required to maintain cleanroom environment. Therefore, the assessment of energy consumption in outdoor air conditioning systems is essential for reducing the outdoor air conditioning load for a cleanroom. In the present study, an experiment with an outdoor air flow rate of $1,000m^3/h$ was conducted to compare the energy consumption in steam humidification, simple air washer, exhaust air heat recovery type air washer and dry cooling coil(DCC) return water heat recovery type air washer OAC systems. Besides, a numerical analysis was carried out to evaluate the annual energy consumption of the aforementioned four OAC systems. It was shown that the simple air washer, exhaust air heat recovery type air washer and DCC return water heat recovery type air washer OAC systems using water spray humidification were more energy-efficient than the steam humidification OAC system. Furthermore the DCC return water heat recovery type air washer OAC system was the most energy-efficient.

  • Purpose: This research aimed at exploring the antecedents of feeling ashamed and anger when customers perceive the rightness of object of criticism induced from in-group failure triggered due to my mistake or others' mistake, and identifying the effects of shame and anger on customers' consumption type. Research design, data and methodology: This research used 2 (failure caused by my mistake versus failure caused by others' mistake) between- subjects design, and collected 353 data through on-line survey, and structural equation model of Amos 21.0 was used to verify the hypotheses developed by reviewing the past literature. Results: First, feeling anger motivates customers to choose compensatory consumption behaviors whereas shame leads people to choose adaptive consumption behaviors. Second, customer's feeling of shame and anger is depending on the perceived rightness of the criticism induced from the failure caused by my mistake or others' mistake. Conclusions: Marketers should notice that even shame and anger are included to negative emotions, customers who feel ashamed are different from customers who feel anger in view of approaching consumption. They should conduct their marketing focused on the adaptive consumption to ashamed consumers and do the marketing based on compensatory consumption to angry consumers.

  • This study analyzes the effects of trade globalization and financial globalization on consumption classified by type(durable, quasi-durable, non-durable and service). On the other hand, trade globalization and financial globalization were decomposed into OECD common factor, regional factors, and the idiosyncratic country-specific factors by time-varying dynamic factor analysis. The characteristics of OECD common factor, regional factors, and the idiosyncratic country-specific factors of trade and financial globalization were analyzed. Furthermore, the influences of these factors on consumption by type were analyzed. The analysis shows that globalization has negative effects on consumption. In particular, we found out that the idiosyncratic country-specific factor of Korea in trade and financial globalization had a statistically significant negative effect on consumption. We can infer that the globalization affecting consumption can be attributed to the idiosyncratic country-specific factor, which is economic choice rather than uncontrollable global trend. Accordingly, to solve the sluggish consumption problem caused by globalization, it is necessary to require not only domestic consumption expansion policies but also the efforts to resolve economic polarization problems to be able to stimulate consumption.

  • Purpose: Several health behavior factors affect the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Especially, obesity, which causes insulin resistance, is the most important determinant of diabetes. Therefore, we expect the risk factors associated with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes are affected by obesity and, additionally, the related factors with diabetes caused by obesity can be controlled. Methods: This study used data collected from the 2001 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). A stratified multistage probability sampling method was applied and the final sample included 5,500 subjects over 30 years old who had completed necessary health examinations and health behaviors survey. Results: The risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes are affected by obesity. According to logistic regression model stratified by body mass index (BMI) and sex, abdominal obesity and age were the significant risk factors of diabetes regardless of sex and BMI. However, drinking, smoking, total energy consumption, and protein consumption were risk factors for women with normal BMI, while carbohydrate consumption was a risk factor for man with normal BMI. Sleeping hours affected diabetes for women with obesity and fiber consumption was a risk factor for both women and men with obesity. In addition, statistically the family history of diabetes was a significant risk factor only in the group with normal weight, not in the group with obesity. Conclusion: The study results will provide information for implementing a regional initiative of type 2 diabetes prevention by BMI.
