  • In order to satisfy the extraction and use of information such as estimates and processes required in the design and construction stages of BIM, which is an expectation of overall construction operation for the design and construction stage of domestic buildings, it is insufficient to supply and apply mobile technologies or terminals. In this paper, standardization of BIM-based processes from the design stage to the construction stage is proposed as an efficient construction system method through mobile-based simulation and test-bed case analysis review. The current status and potential of BIM application were identified through theoretical review of BIM and case studies at home and abroad. In addition, the overall flow of the project and the direction of effective process construction were investigated through each process by 3D, 4D, and 5D execution stage and the role of each collaborator. 4D building process BIM simulation system using mobile was implemented by applying a visualization engine that simulates process information, object information connection module, and related object information. Therefore, it was possible to minimize the possibility of re-construction of the BIM design and construction process model through the visualization of 2D drawings based on the 3D model of the building and the review of errors and interferences in the drawings. In addition, in the implementation of simulation for each process of the construction process through mobile devices, it was possible to support construction progress and process management according to the optimal option selected by the user.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose different construction costs based on the number of kindergarten classrooms. Literature review reorganized the space program for kindergartens. For suggesting the room sizes of each spaces, this paper collected the three types of analysis; 1) the previous researches, 2) field survey, and 3) construction drawings. Based on the results, building sizes for the individual class sizes were presented. And, this paper made a standard priced BOQ(Bill of Quantity) through analysis on the existing priced BOQ. Finally, the recommendable construction costs were proposed by applying the building sizes to the standard priced BOQ. The practitioners of school districts and government organizations can make appropriate budgets considering the building sizes.

  • As construction projects get bigger and more complex, communication and information flow among participants become key success factors of a project. Accordingly, construction projects to respond to these changes being made in the introduction of BIM (Building Information Modeling). But as 2D drawings are still to be widely used in practical fields, it is very important that 2D drawing information could be easily and clearly projected from 3D BIM data. In this study suggest that efficiency of design phase in BIM-based construction projects for can cause confusion and additional work in traditional to BIM.

  • Garak Market Modernization Project Phase 1, which is the public projects worth 1,75 billion won, was delivered by adopting modifiable bid of BOQ on the lowest price award system. The modifiable bid of BOQ system allows bidders to modify quantities based on their own drawings and construction specifications and requirements. It was initiated by the government for minimizing design error and for inducing technical competition between tenders by checking errors. At that time the bidding, it allowed modifying the BOQ all the works. In the construction phase, the responsibility for the design changes, due to mistakes and omissions on design documents and BOQ were disputed between the owner and the contractors. This study analyzed the problem of the system and addressed a need of improvement.

  • In this paper design and fabrication information system for steel bridge construction is studied and proposed according to the progress of Construction CALS/EC in the construction industry in Japan. The data exchange in this system bases on the text file as well as CAD data with simplified drawings. The concept of this system is discussed following the analysis on the issues of the conventional system. The application of the product model is also discussed including effects and issues on the inspection system. This paper is based on the study carried out by Special Committee on Construction CALS of JASBC to which author belong.

  • The problem of managing digital design data including drawings, specifications and other technical data in building design and construction units is a real challenge, especially when there is a need to structure the design information across building design companies. The main difficulty in this information management is the shortage of unified rules (or standards) on how the digital design data should be gathered, archived, and preserved in the most efficient way for building design and construction units. The most important issue, which addressed in this work, is the standardized reference of all design data definitions.

  • Building energy use estimation relies on building characteristics, its energy systems, occupants, and weather. Energy estimation of new buildings is considerably an easy task when compared to modeling existing buildings as they require calibration with actual data. Particularly, when energy estimation of existing building stock is warranted at a city-scale, the problem is exacerbated owing to lack of construction drawings and other engineering specifications. However, as collection of buildings and other infrastructure constitute cities, such predictions are a necessary component of developing and maintaining sustainable cities. This paper uses Artificial Neural Network techniques to predict electricity consumption for residential buildings situated in the City of Gainesville, Florida. With the use of 32,813 samples of data vectors that comprise of building floor area, built year, number of stories, and range of monthly energy consumption, this paper extends the prediction to environmental impact assessment of electricity usage at the urban-scale. Among others, one of the applications of the proposed model discussed in this paper is the study of urban scale Life Cycle Assessment, and other decisions related to creating sustainable cities.

  • The Under Space Integrated Map has been constructed consistently from '15 construction projects until the present time in an effort to implement the "ground sinking prevention method" for the purpose of strengthening underground safety management. The constructed Under Space Integrated Map is utilized to provide information to the person in charge at local government through application of the system of underground information based on the administrative network and to deliver this to specialized underground-safety-effects -evaluation organizations through map extraction based on a floor plan. It suffers from a limitation in its practical use, however, since information is only provided, without promoting a separate renewal project. Although in Section 1 of Article 42 in the Special Law Concerning Underground Safety Management the content pertaining to submission obligations of completion drawings related to underground information including change and renewal are stated explicitly in order to solve this problem, submission is not sufficient since a submission window based only on the administrative network is operated. Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport constructed an online system for submitting completion drawings, in an attempt to change the method by which entities involved in underground development directly submitted completion drawings. In this study, a DB standard relating to submitting completion drawings was designed and applied in order to construct an auto-renewal system based on submitted completion drawings, which will be extended to cover the range to underground structures hereafter.

  • The APR1400 is a 1400MWe nuclear power plant developed through national technology development project over a period about 10years. Approximately 65,000 design drawings are produced for APR1400 construction. In order to maintain consistency among numerous drawings, the highest level of design bases drawings (DBDs) are created according to design bases and this is used in the subsequent design. However, DBDs are produced and managed on a document basis and they are managed various field, it was difficult to accurately reflect the design bases information in the subsequent design. Therefore, this study recognizes limitations of the document based DBDs and develops a system that can accurately reflect the design bases information to subsequent design by adopting BIM based design bases integrated information system. Especially, by introducing DBIL(Design Bases Information Layer) concept, DBIL was created and analyzed based on five design bases(Physical protection, Fire protection, Internal missile protection, Internal flood protection, Radiation protection) applied to APR1400. In the final result DBIL set and Datasheet are integrated of room, design bases information, building data(wall, slab, door, window, penetrations). So it can be used for subsequent design automation and design verification. Furthermore, it is expected that APR1400 DBILs data can be used extensively in constructability and design economics analysis through comparison with next generation nuclear power plant.

  • In construction management the estimation procedure of construction expanses follows a series of submission phases: production of drawings, the assessment report, and the expanse report. In South Korea, it is a widely known issue that the expanse report only includes the net expanses at each construction phase and part, which makes it difficult to trace detailed basis from the records. This issue with inefficient record management should pose a number of problems, which result from discontinuation of construction record, unproductiveness for reproduction of records at each construction and submission phases for construction management, and failure to perform fair management among the contracting parties. Thus, the amendment in which the assessment report and the quantity estimation report reflect common codes to share throughout types of construction, space, and parts should be applied into practices so as to model production of acceptable reports and record.
