  • For effective part modifications which is necessary in the design process frequently, variational geometric modeling with constraint management being used in a wide. Most variational geometric modeling methods, however, manage just the constraints about sketch elements used for generation of primitives. Thus, not only constraint propagation but also re-build of various modeling operations stored in the modeling history is necessary iota part geometry modifications. Especially, re-build of high-cost Boolean operations is apt to deteriorate overall modeling efficiency abruptly. Therefore, in this paper we proposed an algorithm that can handle all geometric entities of the part directly. For this purpose, we introduced eight type geometric constraints to the various geometric calculations about all geometric entities in sweepings and Boolean operations as well as the existing constraints of the sketch elements. The algorithm has a merit of rapid part geometric modifications through only constraint propagation without rebuild of modeling operations which are necessary in the existing variational geometric modeling method.

  • A novel approach is presented to improve the array performance of the alternate mainbeam nulling in a linearly constrained adaptive array processor in coherent environment. The convergence parameters in the linearly constrained LMS algorithm with a unit gain constraint and a null constraint in the direction of the desired signal are adaptively estimated to reduce the error power between the desired signal and the array output in the 2-dimensional convergence parameter space. It is shown that the case for estimating the convergence parameter for the unit gain constraint with that for null constraint fixed performs best. Also, it is observed that the proposed method performs significantly better than conventional methods as the number of coherent interferences increases.

  • Automated design of large structures requires efficient and accurate optimization algorithms because of a large number of design variables and design constraints. The objective of this study is to examine the characteristics of the Kreisselmeier -Steinhauser envelope function and to investigate va tidily of accumulating constraint functions into a small number of constraint functions or even into a single constraint function. The commercial package DOT is adopted as a local optimizer. The optimum results using the envelope function are compared with those of the conventional method for a number of numerical examples and the differences between them are shown to be negligible.

  • The magnitude of constraint effect $A_2$ value was experimentally estimated by using crack tip opening displacement(CTOD) between elastic and plastic regions near crack tip front for CT specimen with $25.4t{\ss}{\AE}$ SS400 steel. The constraint effect, $A_2$ was dependent on specimen configuration and on the measured positions of CTOD near crack front. $A_2$ should be estimated using the opening displacement calculated within crack front plastic region. If not, it's not reliable to evaluate of constraint effect at crack growth initiation in this paper.

  • Alternative formulation is presented for robust optimization problems and an efficient computational scheme for reliability estimation is proposed. Both design variables and design parameters considered as random variables about their nominal values. To ensure the robustness of objective performance a new cost function bounding the performance and a new constraint limiting the performance variation are introduced. The constraint variations are regulated by considering the probability of feasibility. Each probability constraint is transformed into a sub-optimization problem and then is resolved with the modified advanced first order second moment(AFOSM) method for computational efficiency. The proposed robust optimization method has advantages that the mean value and the variation of the performance function are controlled simultaneously and the second order sensitivity information is not required even in case of gradient based optimization. The suggested method is examined by solving three examples and the results are compared with those for deterministic case and those available in literature.

  • In this paper, a new approach to solve the constrained dynamic programming is proposed by using the constraint programming. While the conventional dynamic programming scheme has the state space augmented with states on constraints, this approach, without state augmentation, represents states of constraints as domains in a contraining programming solver. It has a hybrid computational mechanism in its computation by combining solving the Bellman equation in the dynamic programming framework and exploiting the propagation and inference methods of the constraint programming. In order to portray the differences of the two approaches, this paper solves a simple version of the long-term car rental financing problem. In the conventional scheme, data structures for state on constraints are designed, and a simple inference borrowed from the constraint programming is used to the reduction of violation of constraints because no inference risks failure of a solution. In the hybrid approach, the architecture of interface of the dynamic programming solution method and the constraint programming solution method is shown. It finally discusses the advantages of the proposed method with the conventional method.

  • When the topology optimization is applied to the design of compliant mechanism, unexpected displacements of input and output port are generated since the displacement control is not included in the formulation. To devise a more precise mechanism, displacement constraint is formulated using the mutual potential energy concept and added to multi-objective function defined with flexibility and stiffness of a structure. The optimization problem is resolved by using Finite Element Method(FEM) and Sequential Linear Programming(SLP). Design examples of compliant mechanism with displacement constraint are presented to validate the proposed design method.

  • In this study, to describe vehicle-track-bridge dynamic interaction phenomena with 1/4 vehicle model, nonlinear Hertzian contact spring and nonlinear contact damper are introduced. In this approach external loads acting on 1/4 vehicle model are self weight of vehicle and geometry information of running surface. The constraint equation on contact surface is implemented by Penalty method. Also, to improve the numerical stability and to maintain accuracy of solution, the artificial damper and the reaction from constraint violation are introduced. A nonlinear time integration method, in this study, Newmark method is adopted for both equations of vehicles and structure. And to reduce the error caused by inadequate time step size, adaptive time-stepping technique is partially introduced. As the nonlinear Hertzian contact spring has no resistance to tensile force, the bouncing phenomena of wheelset can be described. Thus, it is expected that more versatile dynamic interaction phenomena can be described by this approach and it can be applied to various railway dynamic problems.

  • The optimal analysis has objective functions, equality constraint functions and inequality functions. Objective functions may be used with inequality function, because occasionally variables are moved to non-analytic condition with calculating objective functions. But inequality constraint functions are very complicated problem in a optimal analysis. this paper suggest a method to solve inequality constraint functions.
