분열모델 상수가 분무 및 연소특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Spray Breakup Model Variables on Spray and Combustion Characteristics)

  • This paper describes the effects of spray breakup model constants on spray and combustion characteristics in single cylinder compression engine. KIVA-3V code coupled with a CHEMKIN chemistry solver was used for numerical analysis. In this study, spray simulations and combustion simulations are studied simultaneously. Spray simulation was conducted in constant volume to reduce the effects of air-flow as swirl or tumble. The model validation was conducted and there are little difference between experiments and simulation, this differences were reasonable. In spray simulation, the effects of model constants on spray tip penetration, spray patter and SMD were studied. Furthermore, the analysis of effects of breakup variables on combustion and emissions characteristics was conducted. The results show the KH-RT breakup model constants affects spray and combustion characteristics strongly. Increasing KH model variable (B1) and RT model constants ($C_{\tau}$, $C_{RT}$) induced slower breakup time.

  • A prior fundamental study was executed using a constant volume chamber (CVC) to improve the burning characteristics of lean pre-mixture by the injection of active radicals generated in the sub-chamber of the CVC. The Radical ignition (RI) technique shows remarkable progress in the burning velocity and combustible lean limit compared with the results of the spark ignition (SI) technique. The optimum design value of the sub-chamber geometry is near $0.11cm^{-1}$ for the ratio of the total area of the holes to the sub-chamber volume $(A_h/V_s)$. In this study, based on the former experimental results, the additional works have been performed to examine the effects of the geometry change in the number $(N_h)$, the total section area $(A_h)$, and diameter $(D_h)$ of the passage holes on the combustion characteristics in the CVC. Also ambient conditions such as the initial temperature and the initial pressure of the mixture were selected as experimental parameters and the effects of residual gas at the chamber on the combustion characteristics were investigated. As a result, the correlation between the passage hole number and overall passage hole area was grasped. The effects of the initial temperature were significant, but on the other hand, those of the initial pressure were weak. A more detailed analysis on the residual gas is required in the future.

  • This paper presents the applicability of low caloric synthetic gas from coal gasification to small sized generator. Measurements on the combustion characteristics of synthetic gas from coal gasification as compared with LPG in constant volume combustion chamber have been conducted. A commercial LPG engine and generator are modified to use the low caloric synthetic gas from coal gasification as the engine fuel. We have demonstrated that the generator is well operated with various loads.

  • Laminar burning velocities have been predicted by constant volume combustion chamber, counter flow burner and others. In this study, the measured flame propagation velocities in an assembled annular stepwise diverging tube were plotted with respect to equivalence ratio, length scale, and velocity scale. Three dimensional approach to understand the flame propagation velocity including laminar burning velocity is investigated, and the surface provides the correlation among quenching distance, propagation velocity, and equivalence ratio.

정적 연소 조건에서 Octane 단일 연료 액적의 매연 생성 거동에 관한 연구 (Experimental Study on the Soot Formation Behavior of Octane Single Fuel Droplet Under the Constant Volume Combustion Conditions)

  • 본 연구는 정적 연소 조건에서 Octane 단일 연료 액적의 매연 생성 거동에 관한 정보를 제공하기 위해 수행하였다. 이를 위해 동일한 분위기 압력($P_{amb}$) 1.0 atm과 산소 농도($O_2$) 21%, 질소 농도($N_2$) 79% 조건에서 초기 액적 직경($d_0$) 변화에 따른 Octane 액적의 매연 생성 특성 실험 결과를 제시하였다. Octane 액적 연소 가시화는 초고속 카메라를 사용하여 촬영하였고, 분위기 조건은 제어 시스템에 의해 동일한 조건을 유지하였다. Octane 액적 연소 결과, 매연 생성량은 동일한 분위기 조건에서 초기 액적 직경 변화의 영향이 크게 나타나지 않았다. 또한, 매연 체적 분율 최댓값($f_{vmax}$)은 $135^{\circ}{\sim}315^{\circ}$ 측정 방향에서 높은 결과를 보였다. 이는 액적 점화 이후 Igniter의 이동 과정에서 생성된 Soot-tail로 인해 매연 체적분율 결과가 증가된 것으로 나타났다.

  • Hydrox gas which is the mixed gas of hydrogen and oxygen gained fromwater electrolysis is one of the new clean energy sources and thus is researched and commercialized actively. Especially, it can be replaced the fossil energy and shows the better quality compared to the conventional energy such as LPG or acetylene gas. The mixed gas of hydrogen and oxygen is gained from water electrolysis reaction. It has constant volume ratio 2:1 of hydrogen and oxygen, and it is used as a source of thermal energy by combustion reaction. Further, hydrox gas is nearly a mixed ideal gas combusting itself completely and its combustion shows anunique characteristics of implosion. In this study, temperature rise effects on hydrox gas content through mixed combustion test of kerosene and hydrox gas and LPG and hydrox gas are investigated. it is also confirmed that economy of mixed combustion of hydrox gas as effective energy is fairly probable.

선회류가 있는 연소실의 연소에 미치는 점화위치의 영향 (The effect of ignition position on combustion in the chamber with swirl flow)

  • The effects of ignition position on combustion in a chamber with swirl flow were investigated by use of hot wire anemometer, high speed schlieren photography, and chamber pressure measurement. In experiments, the closed-constant volume combustion chamber was used, and the swirl was formed unsteadily by suction of external fluid after reducing pressure in the chamber. Results show that the effect of ignition position on combustion depends on the flow state and the flame propagation distance corresponding to each ignition position. Also, the effect of combustion promoting increases as an ignition position moves from the center of chamber to the outside, but maximum burning pressure was obtained at the position that is the shortest flame propagation distance.

  • The result of combustion experiment by using the methanol-gasoline blended fuel showed that the supplying pressure appeared the maximum pressure between equivalent rate 1.1 and 1.2. and the evaporation of the fuel has been known to have been greatly influenced by surrounding temperature and the combustion chamber temperature after being injected from the injector And it is confirmed that the rate of evaporation had been suddenly dropped according to the temperature in the combustion chamber though the injected foe) had been fully evaporated Such tendency has visibly appeared when the zone is leaner. and we recognize that the rich fuel supply is needed in the operation of cold operating.

당량비 변화에 따른 바이오디젤 연소 및 CO, NOX 생성 특성 예측 (Prediction of Biodiesel Combustion, CO and NOX Emission Characteristics in Accordance with Equivalence Ratio)

  • This study was performed to provide the basic information of the combustion, CO and $NO_X$ characteristics of biodiesel in accordance with equivalence ratio. The closed homogeneous reactor model used for the analysis. The analysis conditions were set to 900 K of the initial temperature, 20 atm of initial pressure and equivalence ratio was changes from 0.6 to 1.4. The results of analysis were predicted and compared in terms of combustion temperature, combustion pressure, CO and $NO_X$ emissions. The results of combustion characteristics showed that ignition delay was decreased and the combustion temperature and combustion pressure was increased in accordance with equivalence ratio. CO emission was decreased in lean condition(${\Phi}$ < 1.0), however, CO emission was increased in rich condition(${\Phi}$ > 1.0) because oxygen supply insufficient. $NO_X$ emission showed the largest amount in condition 0.8 of equivalence ratio because the oxygen concentration was sufficient.

부실을 가진 정적연소기에서 부실형상의 최적화 연구 (An Study on the Optimization of Sub-chamber Geometry in CVC with Sub-chamber)

  • An experimental study was carried out to obtain the fundamental data about the effects of radical ignition on premixture combustion. A CVC(constant volume combustor) divided into the sub-chamber and the main chamber was used. Numerous narrow passage holes are arranged between the main chamber and the sub-chamber. The products including radicals generated by spark ignition in tile sub-chamber derives the simultaneous multi-point ignition in the main chamber. We have examined the effects of the sub-chamber volume, the diameter and number of passage holes, and the equivalence $ratio({\Phi})$ on the combustion characteristics by means of burning pressure measurement and flame visualization. In a CVC, the overall burning time including the ignition delay became very short and the maximum burning pressure was slightly increased by the radical ignition(RI) method in comparison with those by the conventional spark ignition(SI) method. Combustible lean limit by RI method is extended by ${\Phi}=0.25$ compared with that by SI method. Also, In cases of charging the number and the diameter for the fixed total cross section of the passage holes, combustion period increased significantly at a sub-chamber with a single hole, but those of the other conditions had almost a similar tendency in the sub-chamber with 4 or more holes. regardless of equivalence ratio. Therefore, it was Proved that a critical cross section exists with the number of passage holes.
