A Study on the Quantitative Evaluation of Arc Stability in AC SMAW (교류 피복 아크 용접에 있어서 아크 안정성의 정량적 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) by AC power source was performed to evaluate the arc stability by arc monitoring and analysing. In this study, the arc stability index was evaluated quantitatively by using he coefficient of resistance variation for welding time. This coefficient was obtained for the long time (20sec.) by analysing the waveforms of welding current, voltage and resistance. The coefficient was applied to indicate numerically the variation level of arc length and the degree of arc extinction. Using the coefficient of resistance variation in practical welding, the arc stability of the high titanium oxide electrode (KS E4313) turned out to be better than that of the low hydrogen electrode (KS E4316). In evaluating the skill level of welders by the coefficient, the horizontal fillet weaving welding became clear to be very discriminating because the higher level welder could weave in keeping constant arc length, but the lower level welder showed the characteristics of weaving with the unstable arc length. And it was confirmed that the welding defects as blow holes was formed when the arc stability index were high.

  • This paper presents an electronic ballast using a step down converter, a low frequency inverter for high pressure discharge lamp. The proposed ballast is composed of a full-wave rectifier, a step down converter operated as a current source with power regulation and a low frequency inverter with ignition circuit. The ignition circuit generates high voltage pulse of 1${\sim}$2[kV] peak, 130[Hz]. Moreover, it is able to reignite at regular intervals by protective circuit. As experimental results on the test, lamp voltage, current and consumption power are measured 132.5[V], 7.6[A] and 1,005[W], respectively. It was confirmed that the designed ballast operate the lamp with a constant power.

  • Currently high power Light Emitting Diode (LED) is in the limelight due to its characteristics of long durability, low maintenance costs, and high efficiency. Furthermore, it does not emit pollutants or poisonous gases and is a light source not using mercury, so it holds a high status in eco-friendly terms as well. In this paper, we studied a two-stage LED power drive circuit that can compensate only voltage regulation through LED output current, in order to improve efficiency of LED drive with constant current control in accordance with changes in temperature. The proposed LED drive has an advantage of reducing LED drive's voltage losses by controlling only voltage change of input power, compared with an existing circuit which controls input voltage. The suggested non-insulation compensating circuit for voltage change was verified to have improved efficiency relative to a LED drive using existing DC/DC converter.

  • Load variations on a distribution line result in voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling (PCC). In order to keep the magnitude of the PCC voltage constant at its rated value and obtain zero voltage regulation (ZVR), a D-STATCOM is installed for voltage correction. Moreover, the ZVR mode of a D-STATCOM can also be used to balance the source current during unbalanced loading. For medium voltage and high power applications, a D-STATCOM is realized by the cascaded H-bridge topology. In the ZVR mode, the D-STATCOM may draw unbalanced current and in this process is required to handle different phase powers leading to deviations in the cluster voltages. Zero sequence voltage needs to be injected for ZVR mode, which creates circulating power among the phases of the D-STATCOM. The computed zero sequence voltage and the individual DC capacitor balancing controller help the DC cluster voltage follow the reference voltage. The effectiveness of the control scheme is verified by modeling the system in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The obtained simulations are further validated by the experimental results using a dSPACE DS1106 and five-level D-STATCOM experimental set up.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Hybrid Capacitor and Pulse Performance of Hybrid Capacitor / Li-ion Battery (Hybrid Capacitor의 전기화학적 특성 및 Hybrid Capacitor / Li-ion Battery의 펄스 방전 특성)

  • In this study, we have prepared, as the pluse power source, a commercially supplied Li-ion battery with a capacity of 700 mAh and AC resistivity of 60 md at 1 kHz and nonaqeous asymmetric hybrid capacitor composed of an activated carbon cathode and MCMB anode, and have examined the electrochemical characteristics of hybrid capacitor and the pulse performances of parallel connected hybrid capacitor/Li-ion battery source. The nonaqueous asymmetric hybrid capacitors constituted with each stack number of pairs composed of the cathode, the porous separator and the anode electrode were housed in Al-laminated film cell. The 10 stacked hybrid capacitor, which was charged and discharged at a constant current at 0.25 $mA/cm^2$ between 3 and 4.3 V, has exhibited the capacitance of 108F and the lowest equivalent series resistance was 32 $m{\Omega}$ at 1 kHz. On the other hand, the enhanced run time of Li-ion battery assisted by the hybrid capacitor was obtained with increasing of current density and pulse width in Pulse mode. The best improvement, $84\;\%$ for hybrid capacitor/Li-ion battery was obtained in the condition of a 7C-rate pulse (100 msec)/0.5C-rate standby/$10\;\%$ duty cycle.

  • In this study, the energy conversion characteristics and design of electric vehicle (EV: Electric Vehicle) powertrain were performed. An interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) was targeted as a power source for the EV powertrain, and control was performed. In order to drive the IPMSM, two regions are considered: a constant torque and a constant output (field-weakening) region. The design of the control system for IPMSM was constructed based on the d-q reference frame (vector control). To determine the static characteristics of motor torque appearing in two areas of IPMSM, a torque control system and a d axis current control system of IPMSM were implemented and proposed. Matlab-Simulink software was used for characteristic analysis. Finally, by applying IPMSM to the powertrain model under the actual EV vehicle level conditions, simulation results of the proposed control system were performed and characteristics were analyzed.

Using High Brightness LED Light Source Controller for Machine Vision (고휘도 LED를 이용한 머신비전용 조명광원 제어기 개발)

  • This paper is to introduce a lighting source controller using high brightness LED to create a clear and reliable condition for an accurate measurement and testing, which is a core technology in clinical image system and mechanical automation system. This controller is designed to supply a stable power in a constant-current system by installing a high brightness LED driver, and to improve the reproducibility of brightness by using 32-bit ARM processor core, dividing brightness quantity into 256 levels, making the remote control and the external interface possible, and preventing and digitizing the brightness inaccuracy caused by errors of resistance values. This controller enables the lighting range to be wide and possible in a low lighting level compared to analog, adds the RS-485 communication function, and makes it for the users to control the on-off function and the dimming level by receiving date from an external device.

32-Channel Bioimpedance Measurement System for the Detection of Anomalies with Different Resistivity Values (저항률이 다른 내부 물체의 검출을 위한 32-채널 생체 임피던스 측정 시스템)

  • In this paper. we describe a 32-channel bioimpedance measurement system It consists of 32 independent constant current sources of 50 kHz sinusoid. The amplitude of each current source can be adjusted using a 12-bit MDAC. After we applied a pattern of injection currents through 32 current injection electrodes. we measured induced boundary voltages using a variable-gain narrow-band instrumentation amplifier. a Phase-sensitive demodulator. and a 12-bit ADC. The system is interfaced to a PC for the control and data acquisition. We used the system to detect anomalies with different resistivity values in a saline Phantom with 290mm diameter The accuracy of the developed system was estimated as 2.42% and we found that anomalies larger than 8mm in diameter can be detected. We Plan to improve the accuracy by using a digital oscillator improved current sources by feedback control, Phase-sensitive A/D conversion. etc. to detect anomalies smaller than 1mm in diameter.

Optical properties of HgTe and HgTe/CdTe core-shell structured nanocrystals (HgTe와 HgTe/CdTe core-shell 구조의 나노입자의 광학적 특성 비교)

  • HgTe and HgTe/CdTe core-shell structured nanocrystals(NCs) were synthesized in aqueous solution by colloidal method. HgTe and HgTe/CdTe NCs structure showed very similar XRD patterns because of the same lattice constant and crystal structure of both samples. The absorption and photoluminescence(PL) spectrum of the synthesized HgTe NCs revealed the strong exitonic peak in the IR region. The PL spectrum of HgTe/CdTe NCs have the intense peak in about 700nm shorter than that of HgTe by 400nm. The photocurrent measurement of colloidal NCs are performed using He-Ne laser for light source. The photocurrent of HgTe NCs shows the instant increased current response to light, but HgTe/CdTe NCs revealed a decreased current when lighted to the sample. In the vacuum condition, it shows reverse result that current increased under the illumination of light and it is thought that the molecules like the hydro-oxygen gas in the air give an important effect on the current mechanism.

  • An irradiator is developed using two UVA wavelength ranges of SMD LEDs as a curing light source. This module has dimensions of 545×111×300 mm3 and is equipped with a TIR bar-shaped lens made of PDMS silicone resin. The developed irradiator offers high uniformity, with 89% in the centerline of the horizontal axis direction, for two different wavelength ranges of 365 nm and 385 nm. The radiation intensity from the light source module shows highly directional characteristics, and the irradiator provides a maximum irradiance of 1,634 mW/cm2 at a working distance of 50 mm. During the initial 5 minutes of operation, the irradiance experiences a rapid decrease. However, this issue is addressed by optimizing the LED's current reduction characteristics and managing the Transistor's temperature rise in the constant current circuit. After continuous operation for approximately 60 minutes. The highest temperature, near the central part of the irradiating surface, reaches 69.7℃, while the lowest temperature, near the edges, is 41.1℃.
