This paper proposes the shaking table testing method, without any soil specimen only using building model as an experimental part, considering dynamic soil-structure interaction based on the substructure method. The two-layered soil is assumed as a soil model of the entire soil-structure interaction syhstem(SSI) in this paper. Differently from the constant soil stiffness, the frequency-dependent dynamic soil stiffness is approximated for the case of both acceleration and velocity feedback, respectively. The interaction force is observed from measuring the accelerations at superstructure. Using the soil filters corresponding to the approximated dynamic soil stiffness, the shaking table drives the acceleration or velocity, which the needed motion to give the building specimen the SSI effects. Experimental results show the applicability the proposed methodologies to the shaking table test considering dynamic soil-structure interaction.
The accuracy in maneuvering target tracking using multiple models is caused by the suitability of each target motion model to be used. The interacting multiple model (IMM) algorithm and the adaptive IMM algorithm require the predefined sub-models and the predetermined acceleration intervals, respectively, in consideration of the properties of maneuvers to construct multiple models. In this paper, to solve these problems intelligently, a genetic algorithm (GA) based-IMM method using fuzzy logic is proposed. In the proposed method, a sub-model is represented as a set of fuzzy rules to model the time-varying variances of the process noises of a new piecewise constant white acceleration model, and the GA is applied to identify this fuzzy model. The proposed method is compared with the AIMM algorithm in simulations.
We consider optimal designs of partially accelerated life testing which is deviced for parallel systems with the considerably long life time. In partially step-stress life testing, test items are first run simultaneously at use condition for a specified time, and the surviving items are then run at accelerated condition until a predetermined censoring time. In partially constant-stress life testing, test items are run at either use or accelerated condition only until a specified censoring time. The optimal criterion for each test is to minimize either the generalized asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood(ML) estimators of the hazard rates at use condition and the acceleration factors or the asymptotic variance of the ML estimators of the acceleration factors.
This paper presents a new method of tool path optimization. A NC verification model based Z-map was utilized to obtain chip load in feed per tooth. This developed software can regenerate a NC program from cutting condition and the NC program that was generated in CAM. The regenerated NC program has not only all same data of the ex-NC program but also the new feed rates in every block. The new NC data can reduce the cutting time and manufacture precision dies with the same chip load in feed per tooth. This method can also prevent tool chipping and make constant tool wear. This paper considered the effects of acceleration and deceleration in feed rate change.
This paper deals with an analysis and countermeasure for improving the shock performance of laptop computers. The shock analysis is carried out by using the commercial program of LS-DYNA3D. Also the analysis is verified by the measurements from modal tests and shock tests. The available countermeasures are investigated theoretically and experimentally to find the effective methods of reducing the shock acceleration on hard disk driver during one side fall test. The hard disk drive is the most sensitive part in a laptop computer. This research shows the effects of the spring constant of rubber pad, the reinforcement of mechanical parts and the location of a hard disk driver, on the shock reduction.

In this work, the constant average acceleration, which is a fundamental feature of the trapezoidal rule, is investigated and generalized. Using the generalization of average acceleration concept, a higher order accurate and unconditionally stable time-integration method is developed. The linear approximate of the present methods is exactly the same as the famous trapezoidal rule. To observe the accuracy and stability of the method, several numerical tests are performed and the results are compared with the results from the trapezoidal rule and the exact solution. From the numerical tests, it has been known that the present method has a higher order accuracy and unconditional stability.
This paper presents a vehicle mass and road grade estimator for developing an automated bus. To consider the dynamic characteristics of a bus varying with the number of passengers, the longitudinal controller needs the estimation of the vehicle's mass and road grade in real-time and utilizes the information to adjust the control gains. Discrete Kalman filter is applied to estimate the time-varying road grade, and the recursive least squares algorithm is adopted to account for the constant mass estimation. After being implemented in MATLAB/Simulink, the estimators are evaluated with the dynamic model and experimental data of the target bus. The proposed estimators will be applied to complement the algorithm of the longitudinal controller and proceed with algorithm verification.
In this paper, slip wear phenomenon of train was studied by traction force of acceleration and braking force of deceleration. First, the slip wear phenomenon on train operation mode was analyzed when powering, coasting and braking each and then rail wear was analyzed from the slip wear data. Especially, the data proved correlation between slip wear and deceleration rather than acceleration. Second, If velocity of a train is constant, even though the velocity is high, ATO logging data and measurement data proved that the rail wear is not serious. It will help for efficient braking force operation providing fundamental data to braking step control.

The equation of motion of a one way (vertical) spanning strip wall, as an assembly of two rigid bodies, is presented. Only one degree of freedom is needed to completely describe the wall response as the bodies are assumed to be perfectly rectangular and are allowed to rock but not to slide horizontally. Furthermore, no arching action occurs since vertical motion of the upper body is not restrained. Consequently, the equation of motion is nonlinear, with non constant coefficients and a Coriolis acceleration term. Phenomena associated with overburden to self weight ratio, motion triggering, impulsive energy dissipation, amplitude dependency of damping and period of vibration, and scale effect are discussed, contributing to a more complete understanding of experimental observations and to an estimation of system parameters based on the wall characteristics, such as intermediate hinge height and energy damping, necessary to perform nonlinear time history analyses. A comparison to a simple standing, or parapet, wall is developed in order to better highlight the characteristics of this assembly.
As a continuing effort to develop an automatic control system for small telescope, we developed the software for telescope control and CCD observations under DOS operating system. For accurate pointing of the telescope in short amount of time, we modelled the angular speed of the telescope by aquadratic function of time (constant acceleration) for the first 15 second and then linear function of time (zero acceleration) aftwewards. By changing the telescope speed from 'slew' to 'fine' before the telescope reaches the desired position, we could achieve the accuracy of a few arcsecond. The CCD control software was written for model CCD-10 of CCD Technology. This CCD can be used for guiding purposes. We also conducted the study for remote control of the telescope using telephone line. Although it cannot be used for real observations at the present form, we succeded in remotely pointing the telescope to desired direction. As faster communication technologies become widely available, simple observations can be made remotely in the near future. Finally we report some observational results made with the present control system.
